I just updated the list of remaining people! Thank you Jacob for helpin' me out.

Response to: Game Jam 7: Pick Your Team Posted June 28th, 2012 in Game Development

I'm going to bed, but I'll be updating the list tomorrow. Until then, I'd advise that programmers do a quick ctrl+F on the pages before you before you make your final pick, good luck everyone.

Yeah, sorry for the delay guys. I hit the button right at midnight, but the BBS kept giving me an error regarding the html. So I just put that fat list on my newspost and got it through.

Here is the link to the team pickin' thread by the way.

Yeah, you can add more people to your team. This is to assure that everyone gets a team, and that a bunch of people won't get screwed if some programmers don't show up.

Yeah, totally. So far, all the teams on the first page are as posted. You might want to check back in at 6pm and see if there are any stragglers that need to be picked up.

Game Jam 7: Pick Your Team Posted June 28th, 2012 in Game Development

Oh wow, itâEUTMs Team Picking Time!

+ Every programmer needs to compile their teams by posting in this thread. In each post, the programmer needs to establish the following:

YOUR TEAM NAME (example: Team Thinkofsomethingclever)
1 ARTIST PICK
1 MUSICIAN PICK
1 WILDCARD PICK

+ Picks will be âEUoefirst come, first serve.âEU So if two people happen to pick the same person, the first programmer who posted their pick gets to keep that person.
+ IâEUTMll be trying to keep the list updated!
+ At 6pm (Newgrounds time, EST GMT -5) there will be a second round of picks to pick up any leftover participates and add them to teams. At this time, programmers can post like before (1 artist, 1 musician, 1 wildcard) to ensure that everyone who signed up is on a team

ThatâEUTMs it, let the team picking commence!

(Also, BIG thanks to 4urentertainment, Wallross, and Nathaniel Milburn for helping me organize all the participants!)

The list of all of the participants will be on my newspost.

Response to: Pre-Game Jam 7 .:Discussion:. Posted June 27th, 2012 in Game Development

Let's just compile everyone into one team, 170+ people.

Ahhh, sorry guys! OK, here's what I had in mind.

+ There will be a thread (NG BBS) posted at midnight tonight, East Coast Time. (11:00pm Central.) (I'll post a link in this thread and the main newspost.)
+ In the thread all the participants for the Game Jam will be listed under their appropriate jobs.
+ The programmers will each post their picks (1 artist, 1 musician, 1 wildcard). When I say "first come first serve" I mean whoever posts first gets to make their first pick. (I will be trying to update the pool of people every page.)
+ After each programmer has made their first picks, we will have another round of picking. We'll keep doing rounds of picking until every person who signed up has a team.
+ I'm sure we'll get to a point where there will be a programmer who signed up who hasn't come online to make his pick, and it'll be holding up the next round of picks. If it comes to that, we'll give the missing people an hour to make their picks and then we'll skip them.

When I was writing up the Jam stuff, I really wanted to have all the programmers meet up on some chat and make their picks one at a time, but I was reminded that most of us can barely expect all the people who signed up to make it to first day of jams, it'd be a disaster waiting to happen to expect all the programmers to show up at a specific time on a thread or chat.

Lemme know if you guys have any questions or comments.

A lot of stragglers usually just join other teams anyways. If we do the kickball thing, everyone will eventually get picked by a programmer. The only people who would miss out would be the programmers who forgot to show up.

In the future, it would be really entertaining to make a matchmaker quiz for teams. We could play it up like it's all romantic that four people all like to make space RPG stuff. Valentines Day Jam?

Response to: Pre-Game Jam 7 .:Discussion:. Posted June 12th, 2012 in Game Development

I wanted to try the Kickball System for two reasons: to ensure that the programmers who signed up will actually show up, and to leave the choice of who to invite to a team in the hands of the participants, instead of me. But yeah, if you guys would rather have random teams, just say the word and we'll do random teams.

During the first two jams I had the help of Nathan Milburn and a couple other dudes to help me filter out jokesters and balance out teams. Since then, I'd just stick the names in a random generator and hope it works out! If we decide on switching to random teams, I could use a couple volunteers to help me put teams together.

How would you guys like the Jams to be judged? As of now, I'm just intending to let people who participated send in votes.

Response to: What is the Definition of Art? Posted June 7th, 2012 in Art

I like your interviews, good luck with your projects.

Q: When did you first become introduced to art and in what form?
A: I tried to do a lot of animation in junior high but I didn't have a lot of fun with it. Then in high school, I started seeing more lowbrow work around my city and then I found that I really loved illustration.
Q: What first inspired you to create art?
A: Probably when my buddy showed me Travis Millard, who happened to be an artist from my area.
Q: What is in your opinion, the definition of art?
A: Intentional, meaningful aesthetics. Both Caravaggio and Duchamp were intentional and the physical properties of their pieces were meaningful. It sounds dry, but I don't really think defining art is important.
Q: When it comes to your art, where do you begin? How does the creative process start and when does the creation become finished?
A: I always base piece off of sketches. Sometimes I'll just rip a bunch of pages out of my sketchbook and mash them together into one image. For me, it's really important to know what I'm drawing. Like, some people can just draw things that they think look cool and get buyers, but I really like to know what the concept is. I like to know where the characters are from and where they are now and where they are going.
Q: Is there any other artist or person you look to as a guide or mentor?
A: I've learned a lot from just sitting around with my friends and painting/drawing with them. A lot of my painter friends don't visit me much anymore, but I feel like I get just as much guidance hanging out with skaters or photographers while I work.

Response to: Your Animating Techique Posted March 4th, 2012 in Animation

I don't always animate, but when I do:

I'll draw a quick storyboard in a sketchbook for reference.
I'll do the backgrounds first, so I can properly frame the scenes.
I'll quickly make an animatic.
I'll go over the animatic with finished frames.
Color it last.

When I'm doing the heavy stuff, like drawing the frames or figuring out the scene layout, I'll sit in silence because I find music or the radio to be distracting. But when I'm doing something tedious, like coloring or simple inbetweens, podcasts usually help pass the time.

Response to: Envious Greek philosophers Posted March 4th, 2012 in General

Plato thought that everything lost value the more times it was copied. If he is correct, living in an age where everything is undeletable would be very bad for living meaningful lives. I'd like to think that we can only enjoy certain experiences because others much like our own were left forgotten.

I think some of the proportions of the bodies look a little awkward. Also, in the final image, I would crop all the sides so the objects aren't kissing the borders.

Since a lot of people choose to use Flash Ads, I figured it'd be easier to just include a button that they could place anywhere. It's pretty much the same thing. I had written that we'd be using Newgrounds time (EST) this Jam to keeps things simple, but because of the length switch-up it's probably pretty confusing for a lot of people.

The super-fancy-official-deadline is Sunday at 11:59, EST, but it's not a big deal if you submit a little late.
