Days of Ruin is awsome! I got it on Thursday, it is wayyy better then Dual Strike, I have all Advance War games except the first.
Days of Ruin is alot more adult then the first three, it doesnt have the lame characters from the other ones, there is no Orange Star, Blue Moon, Green Earth, Yellow Comet, Black hole, none of that crap.
Its about a world that got destroyed by a meteor strike and a boy named Will digs himself outta the rubble, he gets saved by a Captain of the former Rubinelle Army. Captain Brenner and his second lieutenant Lin help Will, who was a student at the Rubinelle Army School or something, and they look for survivors. They learn that there enemy country, the Lazuarians, and the remnants of the Rubeinelle army are still at war, even after the meteor strike. You command ur units through a lot of missions, I still havent quite beaten the game yet, but having alot of fun playing it.
Here are some differences between the old Advanced Wars and Days of Ruin
-These are the units that i have noted as been deleted: Black Boat, Black Bomb, Stealth Figher :(, Pipe Runner, Neo Tank, APC(there is a new transport, explained below)
-There are more, better named, and cooler looking units such as the:
-Duster (a cheap aircraft that has machine guns, good for infantry and helicopters, but it can attack all aircraft, and all land units, no ships.)
-Rig, which is the same as the APC, except it now can build temporary airports and ports. These buildings can heal and refuel and resupply the units that work with them (aircraft for temp. airports, boats/ships/subs for temp. ports.) These buildings cannot produce units though, and one Rig can create one temporary building, it cannot restock materials and make another.
-Gunboat (a cheap ship that carries one salvo of missles that can fire on all ships and subs, they are not very effective against anything, and cannot fire on submerged subs. They die easy but are good if you need to destroy a ship quickly for a low price. After each attack you have to resupply them. It can also transport a single foot soldier.)
-Anti-Tank Gun (a somewhat expensive indirect artillery piece that does massive damage to all types of land units. It has a small range for attack but can fire at a unit right beside it and not have a counter-attack against you. It also can counter-attack if attacked by a ground unit.)
-Flare (a small treaded vehicle that fires a flare that can illuminate an area when in fog of war, it also has a nifty machine gun if you get attacked, it can hold up against regular infantry.)
-Bike (an infanty squad on a motorcycle, there is a side car on the motorcycle that has a machine gunner. It is basically the same as an infantry squad except on wheels with faster movement. It can capture property like foot soldiers do.
-Wartank (a neotank/megatank type unit, it has slow movement, its a single unit in combat instead of the normal five, it has 5 cannons on it so it looks rediculous but is very powerful. It is slow moving but deadly against many land units.)
-Seaplane (Produced by carrier, it is much like the stealth fighter because it has missles that attack all units. It has low fuel amounts so you need to frequently land it back onto the carrier for more ammunition and fuel.
-There are also many changes to existing units, here are a few:
-Battleships can now move and fire in the same turn, making them stronger and more unfair to use =(
-Carriers can produce Seaplanes for 15,000 funds.
-Cruisers can attack other ships and only carry transport copters (if you own dual strike u already know cruisers can attack ships, but on AW 2 you cannot.)
-Here are some other changes to the game:
-When a unit gets a kill it raises a rank, starting with none, then I, then II, then a V for veteran.
-Co's arent as important, which i like. A CO only affects the game if you put him/her on a unit, it will make that unit automatically Veteran status, plus, any unit within 2 squares of it receives a bonus depending on which CO you are using. When a CO is deployed it gains CO power and you can use a CO's Power, there is a single power per CO, none of that power and super power, and tag power crap. The Power's are somewhat useful. If a CO's unit gets destroyed, the CO retreats and can be placed on another unit the next day.
-CO's done have the ranks and attributes u can put on them like you could in Dual Strike.
-There is no Tag CO's
-The fight animations are much cooler looking, more realistic and capture how messed up the Earth is after this armageddon.
-There are less Free battlemaps.
- You can replay previous missions mid story.
-There is no place where u can turn in points for rewards like new maps and stuff.
-Improved online play using Nintendo Wi-Fi!
-Rated E10 so there is mild language and the dialog is alot less lame, compared to the gay dialog of Jake from Dual Strike.
There are many other subtle differences that make the game alot more fun then the previous ones.
I hope my overview of the game helps you all.
