Response to: Review Request Club Posted October 6th, 2011 in Clubs & Crews

Hello review club! I am a little confused... I hope you can help.

recently I submitted this. for it, I tried to make a "digital painting" but I don't think it turned out very well at all. the colors are sloppy and the details get lost in the faulty execution... to me it just doesn't look good and I can't understand why it scored so well. So for my next piece, I submitted this, which, to me, looks much better. much crisper and cleaner with a nice line art to stick to. But I don't understand why it didn't score well :( I dont understand what people seem to like about the "painted" one as opposed to the lineart one...

I'm not asking you to review the both submissions... just the "Ehaugw" submission. I don't see what people dislike about it so much...

any help and reviews are appreciated, I'm still working on my art skills,
thank you!

Ps: at the time of me posting this, there are no reviews and the score is at 2.53. If the score has changed substantially, I apologize.

Pps: also, feel free to look at my other art and animations if you wish :)

Response to: Is homophobia the new racism? Posted August 6th, 2011 in General

@ Jedi-Master

In my defense, the VAST majority of Christians are actually pretty peaceful and wouldn't hurt a fly, let alone a gay. you're basing your entire argument on the actions of a very small, hateful group of people. many Christian's (myself UNincluded) believe that homosexuality is a sin, but we all sin. every last one of us. just because someone sins, doesn't mean that god hates them. honestly that's just silly. The belief that god hates gays, is fundamentally very unchristian.

The fact is, that if Christianity never existed, then there would still be homophobia. people would just find some other way to justify it. Its not fair to blame it on us.

For the reccord, I, a christian, formally condemn the actions of the WBC.

Response to: Free swf to avi Posted August 4th, 2011 in Animation

I recommend downloading a free trial of the latest version of flash. (.Mov exporting is a little less buggy in CS5) try opening your animation in CS5 and exporting it as a .Mov . then convert it using Windows movie maker or iMovie. That seemed to work for me.

at the bare minimum post the full idea to catch people's interest. I guarentee no one's gonna steal it. probably.

Response to: Help Converting Swf -> Mp4 On Mac Posted July 24th, 2011 in Game Development

Alright thanks guys! I managed to convert it. I eliminated about 80% of the choppiness that other converters were causing, by using a combination of programs. it turns out that the previously mentioned mov export bugs were fixed in the CS versions, I was using Flash 8. a trial download of CS5 was the solution.

thanks again :)

Response to: Help Converting Swf -> Mp4 On Mac Posted July 24th, 2011 in Game Development

so there's no program that you can simply put swf in, get mov/mp4 out? If it's expensive I can pay for it. but is there really no such program??

First of all I'm sure you've heard this question asked a hundred times, and before you ask, yes, I did use the search bar, and I couldn't quite find a solution that worked for me. so please don't get mad at me for creating this thread.

I need help converting an .SWF file to a MP4 or an AVI file. now, I've tried exporting the animation as an MOV file, but as many of you already know, that messes up nested movieclicips and filters. so movie clips appear as solid objects and don't play. plus it takes forever to export. I've tried a couple of different converters online, but none of them actually duplicated the animation just as I had it, and I'm pretty sure they put a bunch of spyware and stuff on my machine. so I ask you, DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A RELIABLE, SAFE PROGRAM TO CONVERT FLASH ANIMATIONS FLAWLESSLY TO AN MP4 FILE FORMAT? I have looked high and low, and can't find one that works right.

oh yeah and btw I'm using a Mac. I know a lot of people hate macs, but I'm sorry, It's what I have.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

thanks in advance

Response to: Motion Tween vs Classic Tween. ? Posted July 23rd, 2011 in Animation

In other words, THE PEOPLE AT ADOBE ARE FUCKING RETARDED.

Just sayin'

I agree completely. Flash 8 is the best for tweens imo. if you want to use CS, I'd definitiely go with classic tweens. just because it gives you more freedom with keyframe placement. I cant think of any time when I would use new motion tweens. They're just not a flexible.

I don't think you guys are wrong, but you forgot about this. (watch from 3:50 on)

but unfortunately that trick wouldn't work on Neo. the only reason he was able to do that was because he was rejoining with clu. if you've seen the movie, he explains that the reassimilation process (or whatever he called it) would destroy them both. It only worked on Clu because Clu was a reflection of himself. I dont think it would work on Neo.

Neo would probably win, but he could probably learn alot from Flynn's wisdom though.

Most of the people that hate this 'like' button arent actual developers/animators cause if they were theyd see the value of it. By your logic, there should be a button when you dont want your submission to be 'front-pageable'. What are you scared of.

Is it really that unheard of? it might be weird to you. but I personally dont need or want anything to do with some big faceless corporate system. If I wanted my stuff on Facebook, I'd post it there myself. that's my choice. (or at least it used to be).

all I'm saying is that we should have a choice. If I were any good at flash, I wouldnt want my hard work to be carelessly slapped up on some twelve year old's Facebook page for their social benefit.

Response to: Facebook 'like' buttons Posted July 13th, 2011 in General

okay fine.... but we should at least have the option to hide it on our submissions. you know how there's an "allow resizing" option? there should be an "allow Facebook like button" option. that's reasonable right? that way we can choose whether or not we want our submissions to be 'Facebook likeable'.

Response to: Facebook 'like' buttons Posted July 13th, 2011 in General

okay, so I know that this is an attempt to spread awareness of newgrounds and to get people from facebook to check it out. but thats comparable to this:

say we had a really cool pub. nothing fancy, just a small-ish local bar that we all hung out at discussed stuff and had good times. Its relatively small, but still awesome. but now say the owner of the bar wanted to get more patrons. So the owner of the pub heads over to a local Walmart and offers free samples of the the delicious beer to everyone in Walmart. seems like apretty good idea right? once people taste the delicious beverages that the little pub has to offer they might stop by to check it out. But then the next thing you know our chill little pub is filled with fat, annoying Walmart people! next thing you know, the pub expands gets bigger, more prosperous, but it's not the same anymore!

protip the pub is like NG and the walmart is like FB

here's another brilliant analogy:

who here saw 300? okay, who here actually payed attention to the plot of 300?

the Persian empire was huge! everyone knew about it. It had most of the ancient world in its grasp. but one brave little city state, Sparta, stood defiant. refusing to join in with the persians. even if it would mean more prosperity. they stood alone. and against impossible odds, 300 brave spartans stood firm against the massive Persian army.

that little 'like' button is like the Persian messenger in the beginning of the movie. Now My question to you is this: are we gonna accept that thing? let it insult our queen and threaten our people with slavery and death? or are we gonna KICK IT INTO A HUGE FREAKIN' PIT!!!
