I have been fixated on this for quite some time now - not because it's necessarily of any significance - but i get frustrated when i have something on the tip of my tongue, and just can't remember it.

i recall a while back reading this fantasy/science fiction book that had instructions for you to go to different pages depending on the choices you would make. inevitably leading you to different fortunes.

it was like role playing - but in paper form. now im dying to know what genre of literature does this refer too? what are these type of books called?

for a laid back 23 year old (strictly english speaking, but interested in learning french) student, which city would be more suitable?

from reading up some literature these were some coinciding points;

multicultural
high standard of living
liberal

some differences;

vancouver

moderate weather
laid back
nicer people
uninspiring night life
beautiful scenery

montreal

nice summers, but extreme winters (up to -30)
exciting metropolitan city
diverse
some bigoted minorities
bilingual (franco and anglophones) - french particularly important in business

im so on the fence with this one. whilst im laid back and relaxed, and therefore vancouver is very appealing, it also seems rather plain and boring. montreal seems more like a place for someone in their early twenties, the extreme cold and language barier are a hindrance, however.
