There is no section closer to money than politics so I decided this would be a good place to post. I just saw a news report about how Hurricane Gustav is messing with offshore refineries and how it's creating another excuse for a rise in gas prices. I was hoping somebody here who actually knows about investing could help me find out how to invest in oil companies. Is it as easy as going to a website? Do I actually have to walk down to Wall Street? Do I need a stockbroker?
Before I even heard of this I was reading books by real estate and investing tycoons such as Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump and the thing as that none of these books tell you how to be rich. I didn't expect rich people to give away their secrets which is why I loaned them from the library instead of paying for them. I know that most of those people are really salesmen and marketers who want to make more money off of you rather than help you gain riches. However, what I noticed about Kiyosaki and Trump is that they are slightly different in that they value education, but not the kind of education the American school system provides. They value financial and political education because of the simple concept that if you know more about money and politics you're much less likely to get ripped off and much more likely to become rich. It makes sense to me and so my quest to learn about money began.
Recently, I've been hearing that people like Jim Cramer of Mad Money fame and Ron Paul are also trying to teach people about money but that most people find this subject boring. I don't. I find it fascinating and I was hoping that I could find other people who also want to learn to be rich and find/join a group of people who already know about money and are willing to teach others how to not be intimidated by things like purchasing real estate, building businesses, and the stock market.
I want to be rich dammit and I am willing to do anything to retire as early as possible, someone, anyone please answer if you can help me even just get one step closer to my goal. I already took out a couple books on accounting and "Small Business for Dummies". I plan to also take out "Investing for Dummies" but I believe the fastest way to avoid the pitfalls of investing would be to find a mentor.
Any opinions of the people mentioned above would be appreciated as well. I realize that Jim Cramer is hoping to make money off of uneducated people too so he's not the best person to ask unless you find a way to befriend him in person but I am especially curious at to why people think Ron Paul is so great and why you think he lost his chance at presidency so easily? Please be as specific as possible. Thank you. :)
