That wasn't a trend as those bands are still huge names in Metal.

I know, but the fact that it's impossible to be a "heavy metal" band today makes it seem like it's not even a genre.

Most of those bands could be classified as power metal or thrash metal IMO.

I think Heavy Metal is just the universal term used to describe all metal bands, period.

I don't consider it a genre.

So i've been researching pirate metal bands
Oh, and Pirate Metal is a legitimate genre?

No, if you looked next to the band names I wrote there genres.

It's easier to say "Pirate metal" than "Pirate themed metal bands that can be power metal, thrash metal, death metal or folk metal"

Just like how people say "Viking Metal" instead of "Metal that has viking themed lyrics!"

So i've been researching pirate metal bands since I saw both Swashbuckle and Alestorm in this past week and.....I think I have a complete list of metal bands who are pirate themedwho have albums out.

The ones you all know:
Running Wild - Like a million albums
Swashbuckle - Two albums
Alestorm - Two albums

The ones no one has heard of:

Skull Branded Pirates - One album - Power Metal, Folk Metal
Los Pirates - One album - Power Metal
Verbal Deception - One album - Death Metal, Folk Metal
Dom Vetrov - One album - Folk Metal
Cauldron Black Ram - One album - Black Metal, Death Metal
Abordazh - One album - Power Metal

I've also listened to Scuurvy(power metal) and Pirates of Acheron(Thrash Metal) whom both have their first albums coming out sometime next year.

So yeah, as you guys can tell - I have way to much time on my hands.

Poet, i'd just like to point out that using the fact you are a teenager and that teenagers love core is a pretty bullshit excuse.

I mean, almost all(Not bill, lol) of the members in this club are teenagers themselves, or so young of adults that they might as well be consider teens.

Yet we all hate metalcore, because we all broke free of the media run trends.

I mean, that's what a 'wave' is - A trend.

That is not an excuse for liking a genre of music. If you don't like The Beatles your opinion shouldn't automatically change if you hear the beatles on the radio because their famous.

Whatever.

Punk just doesn't.

WHat are you talking about?

So a punk band has to have lyrics that sound like every other punk band out there and all their instrumental has to be those insanely generic + repetitive + simple riffs over, and over, and over again?

BOY IF WE HAD A DIFFERENT SOUNDING SINGER, AND MORE ORIGINIAL BUT STILL KICKASS INSTRUMENTAL WE WILL BE A DIFFERENT GENRE BY DEFAULT HUR HUR

It doesn't work that way, at all.

And even if traditional punk fans wouldn't consider it punk? Fine, then we'll a new amazing genre of music!

Besides a few shit bands today like Sum41 and Green Day and maybe a few of the FIRST thrash metal/hardcore bands there influences could unlock amazing potential.

Punk and Metal are also nothing alike.

They are both huge music genres, I was comparing how one has VAST variety and the other has none.

Not the music itself.

So if in the early 80's since metal went from this to this then that makes Sonata Arctica NOT metal?

Every metal band, rock band, pop band, rap artist, etc. has differences among the genre.

I mean, even if some artists are highly similar if you keep a genre EXACTLY the same then NOTHING will evolve out of it.

People need to innovate, doing the same shit in the early 80's and still today doesn't mean you are staying true to the genre - It means you are fucking lazy and unoriginal and you also know how to recycle riffs and lyrical themes.

I mean, fucking look at grunge. It was only big between '91 and '94.

Why? Because it remained EXACTLY the fucking same without anyone doing anything different.

It shouldn't be.

Why should a genre limit it's styles so much?

I mean look at metal, you can make about a infinite number of different styles of metal without leaving the genre.

Why isn't punk the same or at least similar to the same or similar degree or variety?

It's still metal, so it's a surprise he actually wanted to be part of that album whether he's friends with Kai Hansen or not and this was just a few years after he left Helloween.

Well it's not like he toured with the band or anything.

Indeed.

Even though he's been a guest musician in many metal bands, most especially Gamma Ray. Funny how he said he hated metal yet in 1995 he was a guest vocalist in two songs from Land of the Free.

His guest work in helloween tribute band "Trick Or Treat" = The tribute band basically sucked Michael's cock until he agreed to be the vocalist for an album.

His guest work in Avantasia = This was in the early 2000's, he probably matured a little bit since then - Also you could argue that Avantasia is so melodic of a metal band that one might confuse it for a rock band if they didn't know any better.

His guest work in Gamma Ray = Michael Kiske is still great friends with Kai Hansen, he probably did it because their friends and not for the music itself.

I've never listened to any of his solo projects and I hope I never will.

I listened to one of his solo songs "Always"

It was pretty horrible, he limited his voice sooooooooo much - It didn't sound like he was singing, it sounded like he was whispering.

And the instrumental + lyrics to go along with it sucked also.

If he killed himself while still a member then MANY more people would know about it.

Didn't Kiske turn his back on Metal though?

He did, he said himself in '97 that being in a metal band was the worst thing that ever happened to him and it ruinned his chances to actually be in a good band.

He also said that he wouldn't return to metal even though no other genres of music accept him now.

And considering every single one of his solo projects and works with other bands turned into UTTER failures like his last two albums with helloween, and he still hasn't returned to metal, he's keeping to what he said.

Mih.

* I Want Out

This one COULD be great if they get Kai Hansen in there with Andi and they both do vocals on this one.

* Fallen To Pieces

WHY?!?!?! Gambling With The Devil was horrible vocally and lyrically and instrumentally it wasn't even that great IMO.

* A Tale That wasn`t Right

This should be a good one.

For a 25th anniversary album, it's surprising it won't be two disks long.
