1. I enjoy working with projects from reputable authors (ones who already have a lot under their belt that you have a less chance of the project falling through), that said, I prefer decent quality projects. (Let's be honest, besides some of the really crazy stick/etc stuff doing VA work for a really poor and probably stick-figure animation is not going to advance your career and you're likely not being paid for it either.)

2. I'd like to do VA in anime or video games, preferably video games, as a shy/reserved type chara in a DanganRonpa-esque type series. I still envy Chiplock for snagging that Taka role in the first game.

Response to: Best Mic for Voice Recording? Posted 7 days ago in Voice Acting

It all depends on your price point and availability. Blue Yeti would have been nice but no where around where I live sells it and S&H and import/duty fees would have killed me on an item that expensive. I picked up the ASUS APEX555 USB condenser mic with active monitoring and it's been world's better for quality than my previous cheapie standee mic. However the price point was almost $300 (that's CDN though and tax included so I'll let you figure that out in USD if you want.)

Personally I found my quality improved 100-fold when I picked up the APEX555 USB Condensor Mic with Active Monitoring. Mind you it is on the fairly pricy side.

Removing a Followed Author? Posted December 15th, 2013 in Where is / How to?

This may be a dumb question but I can't find it anywhere. If you have someone you are following as an author and you no longer wish to follow that person or have them as a favourited author. How do you actually remove them so things they post stop showing up in your feed?

Just start recording random lines. That's what I did then went on a hunt for people that want voice actors and use that as your reel. Noone is perfect from the start so practice a little and learn voices you didn't know you could do x) just keep going at it til it beats you up :p

Thanks. I've currently got strep or something fluish that is giving me a sore throat, as soon as I'm better I'm gonna record a newer, better demo and then swap out the one I have now for that, from there then I will simply hope for the best and keep trying hard. Trying to have a more positive outlook/better attitude but it's hard.

My attitude wasn't always bitter and etc, it only became that way after the lack of.
As for the demo it's hard for a demo to showcase everything that could be done. Also there is examples of work of things I VAed in under latest videos but ah well. I mean I might try to make a new demoreel but... I'll probably take the advice of seeking out things that are not on NG that are actual credit work and can lead to a career and all that. Heck I'd repreat what one person told me about NG as a whole but eh it's not nice so yeah... I won't.

I already did get at least one gig that will be a DVD credit in the near future. So I'll just see how that turns out, then I can add it to a demo reel or whatnot.

Response to: Should I even bother...? Posted August 28th, 2013 in Audio

Not really... because anyone known in the industry only wants others who are known in the industry, as that is just the way it works. I mean it was fine back in the day when I at least had one friend animator whom would ensure they wouldn't sell out and use the overused VAs (and then they ended up doing it anyway... sigh...) but now I don't know anybody and I'm sure nobody cares to know me cause I'm not someone already famous they can leech off the fame of to succeed so... *shrugs*

I remember thinking the same as you, thinking that I shouldn't even bother with Jazz, considering the only thing people want is either Electro or Cinematic. The secret in any industry, this one in particular, is EXPOSURE.

Seriously, you have a point about the fact that no one is willing to give a shot to nobodies, but thing is, THIS ISN'T ANYTHING NEW. If you think a person who isn't part of the branch you're a part of is going to distinguish high talent from moderate talent, you're DEAD WRONG. You need to get your presence known in the industry if you want to get some gigs, otherwise people won't even realize you were there in the first place.

You can do this in many ways: Interacting with people through forums, sending emails/PMs to people or doing collaborations with people who already ARE known amongst the industry. I recommend a combination of those three for your best odds, but that's just me.

No more than a year ago I was a total nobody to most people, but in a single year I've managed to get myself a decent following and getting some fairly decent gigs.

All in all, the recipe for success IMO is like so: 10% talent, 20% work ethics, 30% exposure and 40% luck.

Hope this helps!
Should I even bother...? Posted August 28th, 2013 in Audio

Seriously. Should I bother trying to get back into VAing? There really is no point it seems. Nobody wants anybody unless they are Tomamoto or whoever is famous enough to boost their pageviews/etc because you know, nobody's work is good enough on it's own anymore to be recognized if they don't leech off someone else's fame. I say fame, not talent, because frankly just because someone has fame, does not mean they are talented, they could be complete crap, and yet still have fame by sheer luck or whatever other reason. So anyway... yeah. I'll probably close ot delete this thread shortly, since a) not like anyone's gonna see it, b) not like anyone's gonna care, and c) not like I'm gonna get back into VAing anyway and even if I do not like I'll ever get any decent work.

Response to: How Newgrounds could die. Posted August 27th, 2013 in General

Funny. Here I thought the death of NG was eventually going to be the fact that everything just uses the same VAs over and over and over and over again and to the point where some people just don't give a crap. It's like okay dude you're famous on NG, now go out and start VAing for anime dubs for funimation or something and give other people a chance to do some NG stuff. But alas, c'est la vie. I've been on and off Newgrounds since the beginning of its existence. Never made it, big whoop. Now I'm just too down-trodden to care lol. Seriously I mean when 9 out of 10 things uploaded contain people I can't stand and won't watch/play or endorse anything that has them well... then unfortunately that's just what it is. Only reason it's 9 out of 10 is thankfully there's the odd things with either no VAs at all, or the artist themselves just does the VA (ie illwillpress) so... yeah.

Heck I thought there used to be a forum where people who were looking for VAs or VAs who were looking to do stuff could discuss but oh wait, nobody wants anyone but that one ahole or the few other overused VAs now so it's just assumed any new project it's just going to be them and always them and nobody else lol.

At 8/26/13 08:35 PM, Wriggle wrote: I hate to be a regular who says this, but every time someone with a new signup date comes in we tell him he doesn't know shit because he hasn't been around to see this.

But honestly, I have been on Newgrounds on and off for 9 years (Part of that time I did not have an account, thank god for that because I was already a dumb enough 12 year old as it was when I signed up) And I realize someone has to say it:

Multimedia and gaming is having less and less to do with a web browser.

There, I said it. Technology is catching up what Newgrounds does- It is a niche. And it was a very powerful niche a few years ago but now browsers use HTML5 for things that flash used to be required to do. Case in point: I had helped a friend with his computer and for several months he didn't know he didn't have flash installed for IE (His job makes him use IE)

Now, bearing that in mind Newgroundsisnow allowing HTML 5 content, obviously it would be suicide for them to say "Flash only" because the capabilities of computers have surpassed anything that enbedable content of that kind can do.

But lets look at the reality: Platforms like steam are beginning to distribute free games (Sure they are to promote paid versions and whatnot) but they still are free. And the games that are on steam are now playable on most new computers as technology gets better and better.

The problem with this is that the "Gamer kids" though we hate them and think they leave shitty childish reviews here on NG, They are the ones clicking the ads. Nobody is actually wanting to click the Japanime shitty RPG ads, but those kids that just got here are certainly clicking those ads and generating more traffic from the content here on NG.
There is a way to save Newgrounds: Admins should hear this out.

Newgrounds should become the free games portal version of STEAM. Why? Because steam is setting the standard in the changing world. We used to all say "Steam is for rich people" and now look at it- Everyone is using steam to install their games without even using a disk. Newgrounds is becoming slowly obsolete as the storage capacity and abilities of graphics get to be enormous. Browser games are looking shittier and shittier in light of them.

Also allow videos on Newgrounds:

Given the funding and a little bit of help from some donations and backing, Newgrounds could become a video portal. Or at least a place for videos to be uploaded by those who are approved to do so. Perhaps there could be a judgement system as well. If Newgrounds became a place for Videos that couldn't just be uploaded by anyone then it could rival youtube very easily and maybe (Hopefully, actually) topple youtube. It would be a great thing to see. It would just have to have a way of organizing that the portal is currently not capable of.

Just some thoughts, ideas and ways to hep Newgrounds. Lets stop pretending browser stuff wont become obsolete and start looking to the future.

Thoughs?

Not true... I tried drawing and practiced for years and years, and couldn't make any progress at all, art is just something not everyone is cut out for... Sad to say but it's true. The best of artists could teach me and it prolly wouldn't help.

Response to: Need Anim. For Extensive Sh Project Posted December 3rd, 2008 in Game Development

True enough, but it's also not like I'm going to ask for an animator just to collaborate on the project for free, thing is I want the animator to WANT to do it too, if possible, not for it to just be a 'job', but for them to put their heart into it.

I guess it's not easy to find somebody for a reasonable price, and quite handsomely to some is a pittance to others, you know? To some people $100 is all the money in the world, especially if they're a 'starving artist', while to others $100 is a drop in a hat, a penny compared to their millions, so if some of those animators are millionaires who want $1000 for a minute worth of work, all the power to them that they can get that. I haven't won the lottery yet, so I'm not made of that kind of money.

It's unfortunate that I'm not able to draw/animate, I'd love to be able to do it myself, but like I said, I wasn't given that gift, and no matter what, I never will be, you're either born with the ability to draw or you aren't, and unless you believe in superstitions like selling your soul for something, and then it actually working, can't really go that route either.

Because believe me I'd give my left lung to be able to draw/animate like a lot of people, but it just isn't going to happen.

Response to: Need Anim. For Extensive Sh Project Posted December 3rd, 2008 in Game Development

I also hope I am not breaking any rules or anything posting this in this forum, but NG really needs to make subforums for people looking for talents outside their own, like a forum for people solely looking to hire animators, a forum for people solely looking for writers, etc.

Yeah, define 'quite handsomely'!

This sounds like it will take a loong time, so... if someone is willing to do it, I will happily volunteer to be the middle [wo]man, I will hold said payment (in full, in cash) to ensure no one gets screwed. When the project is complete, I will pass it on to the animator. Or if they bail, I will return it to the OP. Win/Win/Win!! :D

'cuz I get to keep the interest as payments for my efforts! :D

Payment for the entire project could well exceed $2,000 pending excellent work, however, I am not an idiot, I will pay portions upon completions of each episode, and the first would only come after at least half of the first episode was done in full, good, etc standing.

Response to: Need Anim. For Extensive Sh Project Posted December 3rd, 2008 in Game Development

I figure I'd start a base price of $100 an episode and pay on a sliding/grading scale based on quality of work, I'm all for paying bonuses if the work is good and satisfactory, but if the work is terrible and unsatisfactory, it's not something that should be paid for, you know?

I am also unsure of hourage, but each animator takes different amount of times for similar/same things, one animator can do something like Fallen Angel ep 1 in a matter of 5 hours, others could take 10 hours, and some it could take several weeks... which is why paying by the hour isn't good, because there's also no way to be proven how much time was put in on the project.

I mean, I wish I was an animator so I could do it myself, but I was only bit by the writing bug, and not the drawing bug, making it impossible for me to do anything artistic myself. Heck, I'm surprised there hasn't been some sort of Silent Hill collab, or even Resident Evil as far as I know... then again wait for RE5 to come out and there prolly will be. But this story is something I'm putting a lot of thought into, and it can be, heck will be, way better than the travesty of a movie. And with the good old fashion mind-messing of any Silent Hill game, but also with new twists and a new take on things to make things that original as well.

I've been working on a new type of Silent Hill story, that I would like to see turned into a feature length flash animation, I'm looking for somebody who could animate in a way that would capture the essence of an SH series, gritty, realism(but still animeish, um, hard to explain, watch Merry Melony for an example or even Fallen Angel), also must be committed to the project.

I am willing to pay, quite handsomely, upon satisfaction of work of each part(each part will prolly run anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes long, and as I said, feature length, so in total will at least be an hour if not more, which is why must be able to be committed.), due to bad experiences of cash and dash in the past, I will not pay upfront, not just because I want to see good quality of work. This is sort of a collaborative project, but if I'm going to have to pay for it, I will retain creative rights and such(ie the ability to upload it to DA as a project I spearheaded, etc.).

I doubt I'll find somebody both willing, and able(as in able to produce the quality of animation necessary) even for a good price, but I might as well try.

Response to: Looking to hire an animator... pay$ Posted June 25th, 2008 in Game Development

Sorry too expensive unless the job was going to be of Geneon quality or something. But I think I mentioned that I do give bonuses if a job is well done or for extras or etc...

Though right now I'm waiting for paypal to get my refund back to me which they said is 30 days for some stupid reason so until then I won't be able to make an initial payment, not that I'd pay upfront after what happened last time as I already stated.

Response to: Looking to hire an animator... pay$ Posted June 22nd, 2008 in Game Development

*Sighs* I guess no one is that interested really... well no one of the quality I'm looking for or expecting... I'll leave the offer active for now, even though there's a good chance it won't last long with some things considered.

Response to: Looking to hire an animator... pay$ Posted June 19th, 2008 in Game Development

I should also mention that the intro thing I have a rough storyboard drawing that I did for so that you at least have something to go on for it.

I also have character references for the animation and can easily get other ones needed.

Response to: Looking to hire an animator... pay$ Posted June 18th, 2008 in Game Development

It's a comedy about making a survival horror video game, with some action scenes, done in a sort of tutorial style, if that helps any. I'm not about to just splay the script out all over the place and wind up having it stolen, not that it prolly hasn't been already because of the animator I initially hired(see above).

I am not really sure what to compare it to... Gamer Tonight would possibly be the closest thing but then even that's way off, not to mention I wrote this like 6 years before Gamer Tonight was even an idea in Ross' head.

Response to: Looking to hire an animator... pay$ Posted June 18th, 2008 in Game Development

The animation itself is rather simple, it's just a character standing infront of a screen with very little motion except for mouth and arms, and then one or two heavy segments but all in all it would not be very hard work. Also you didn't read my post clearly, I said because of the last incident I would not be paying anything upfront until I at least see the intro part done to know that the style is going to work and that progress is actually being made, instead of being baited with promises that it is being worked on for months and months without seeing anything.

Response to: Looking to hire an animator... pay$ Posted June 18th, 2008 in Game Development

You could also message me on AIM, just to let you know.

Also someone who knows coding would be nice too, because I wrote and planned for a pre-loader, intro thing, menu, etc. and my coding knowledge doesn't extend that far, furthest I went in school for programming was BASIC, and C++. And those have absolutely nothing to do with Flash unfortunately.

Not sure if this is in the right forum or not, sorry if it isn't, and if it is in the wrong forum feel free to delete it.

I'm looking for an animator to animate something I've written, because the last animator I hired and paid upfront took me for a fool, and there's no sense in keeping names a secret, it was Nalem... so anyway yeah... I'll pay upwards of $250(this includes bonuses based on quality of work and success of it after completion), serious and skilled inquirers only please, I expect anime like Cycon or Ross or etc. style quality, and I expect absolute perfection in work not some half-assed rush job. I was patient before, probably a big mistake, so deadline will be stricter as to prevent the same crap that happened before happen again. I also hope that this is not seen as hateful, because I am simply stating what happened to me and that I might be skeptic about hiring people now, also, payment upfront is now likely gonna be a big no-no, even half upfront, I'm going to wanna see a small decent chunk of work before coughing out that much, which I hope is fair.

It'd be best to message me by PM or e-mail, as I check those more frequently.

All the information provided above is explaination pertaining to my current feelings and situation regarding the hiring of people over the internet.

Any and all additional information otherwise and/or regarding the job can be received once talking through PM or E-mail. That is all, thank you.
