then why end there?
Guess in equality we segregate ourselves then.

When is Italian-American history month?
Asian history month?
Irish American month?
Spanish/Mexican-American month?
More so, a Native American month (Cant say they didn't endure more)
Or do we lump all these races back into "white" so we can categorize "white and black"? or maybe "White, Black, Yellow and Red"? (lets not leave anyone out wile we segregate)

Im not against black history month, but is just yet another epitome of racism? Just using the word "Black" goes back to the segregation of the words.

So all African American culture is learned and celebrated for a month, Kinda like the trivial other holidays that come once a year (in Asia there are plenty..trust me)
Maybe its just me, but shouldn't black history be just that? a part of history? Taught and learned within the same regards to the history of the rest of the world? or even America?
Or are we are to believe that black history is one month, and White history is rest of the year? or do we learn history like normal country's and cultures? With weight and equality

How do we set up each month for all races? or do we not bother because not everyone is equal or as important as one? or two? maybe 3? where is the line of importance to man and America? or does it take a great injustice or suffering so we to this day can look back in a state of pity at those who fought for equal rights? But instead of being one, Looking at them, there accomplishments in the face of adversities, there sacrifices..we separate them yet again, based sole only on there skin tone.
I would think those people, those actions deserve there own place in history, right next to everything and everybody else.
Not lumped into the teachers curriculum for the "month of February"

If we are to achieve multiculturalism then there needs to stop with segregating the races, (But then again multiculturalism usually has that effect)
OR history written in such a way that it includes all races and man equally.

Simple fact is Black history month is a relic of the past. spawning off of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
(back then I am sure it was needed)

Fun fact: every race does have a month or week, all but one race. guess that that it is.

Caucasian

Difference between those races week/day/month and Black history month is you are not forced to participate or relearn them every year for 12 years. Most do not even know there owns race month/week
If it was promoted as Black history month, or held in the same light it would only bring to light the neo-segregation that it is.

never thought id see the day where there seem to be "Flash" or "adobe" fanboys.

Oh i smell a animation about this.

But really it just breaks down to what you want to do, and how you want do it.

hmm, try plastic animation paper
It has a free version you can use forever, plus pretty much everything is on the screen.

Well each have there own ways but I think we cal all agree that script/story is first.
after that it may very, for me it goes
1. Script/ Story
2. Story board.
3. Story animating (kind of like moving story board, with key poses and such)
4. Voice acting.
5. Animation.

story's can be found a plenty among the internets. This google thingy majig helsp sort it.
also helping you with "animation" is vague.
Judging by your flashes you need work on your art.
Then if you are going to do that sketchy style you should work in alot of shadows and such.
next just learn animations, plenty of tutorials and books out there.
Book wise I recommend Cartoon Animation by Prestan Blair.

Over all just practice practice practice.

also note, they do not make Family guy in Toon Boom, They use ikts software.
things like corrections, Digital inking and such.
Disney also been using it for years now, But its not really the same version that is on the market, and its more of a enhancing via digital work. Not fully constructed, animated and done in Toon Boom

Response to: Toon Boom vs Flash Animating Posted February 13th, 2010 in Animation

Toon boom for movies, Flash for games.
I like how Toon Boom is more set up ina way on how you actually animate, Wile flash is kinda just a nuts and bolts with a time line.
Also Toon Boom was first to have the camera and such.

i use flash mostly, But when i get enough money i may get the new version of TB, they also have like a light version for40 bucks, anyone tried that?

if you feel you don't need em, do NOT take em.
I wont go into detail because its personal.

But have em check you for anxiety if you don't feel depressed (same symptom a lot of time). When anxiety is treated as depression...its dangerous... Because the stuff they can give you can fuck you up..badly, and semi permanently.

but when im ready to get down to the nitty gritty I make a new document and slowly work all my scenes into 1 move.
Its just a organizational thing

Response to: How to: Perspective walk cycle Posted February 12th, 2010 in Animation

Step Two:
Here is where the knowledge of perspective and vanishing point come into play.
As you can see, All of our Boxes and lines are back, But this time in 3D!!!!.
Ok no not 3D just on a perspective. From here we use these lines as a guide to help us stay on target.
The Head, Center-Mass and Knee line are still in proportion to what they was in figure A, But they are now going to the vanishing point of the horizon.
Also the box's we drew in figure A are also still the same size, Just on a perspective.

Now in each box, You will start to put down your cycle.
You will notice each box, there will be some over lapping, This is fine as you will need to do so in your animation anyways.
Depending on your scene and action this can be animated anywhere from the horizon or just a small part.
This also works for movement. You CAN move the horizon and view, But that is a bit more advanced technique and I want keep thing simple.

Some Tips:
Do not be afraid to add more guide lines then what is here in the tutorial.
This is animation, And no one rule will apply, Also do not forget when reading this, You are still doing a walk cycle, So do it the same way you normally do, Do NOT change your style just for one tutorial, Just apply the principles here.

I often find it helps me to draw the horizon then the most front image first, Then do my perspective lines.
From there i work backwards, But everyone is different. Try and do what works best for you.

Also note that if you are doing this in flash or another animation program, Try not to zoom in to much as you go to the horizon, If you add to much detail towards the vanishing point (not only do you defeat the purpose of the name) but it will look just awful. Try to stay at certain zoom when doing this, and use your shadows and colors to make up the difference.

This works for anything from animals to cars, so do not think you have to only do humans walking.

How to: Perspective walk cycle

How to: Perspective walk cycle Posted February 12th, 2010 in Animation

Hello my NG'as ( I was told NG'ers looks to much like a racist word, so to be a dick i dropped the R...see not racist right?)
I have noticed that there is not allot of tutorials on perspective walk cycles.
When i googled it, I got allot of normal walk cycles and perspective walk cycle in 3D for some reason......

So I decided to make one here.
Plus I think a tutorial is better when people can ask questions, Show there work, get feedback and over all just practice. This is what this thread is for.

Now bare with me as this will be a multi-post in order to properly cover everything.
here is a old technique we learned a wile ago.

Intro:
In order to learn perspective walk cycle. We must have knowledge of the following:
Basic knowledge of walk cycles.
Basic understanding of animation and skill.
Vanishing points.
Perspectives.

Before we start, Let me say this, There are many MANY ways to do this, This is just how I learned it. If you read, learned or figured out a different way, Please do post it up. but do not bash others...as we all learn and do things different to what works for us.

Step 1:
Blocking. (or boxing)

either one you need a good defense *bad-um dish*

One of the challenges to the perspective walk cycle is the fact is the character will get small to bigger, or bigger to smaller wile stilling having to have the same movement and flow. This can be the very thing that makes or breaks the cycle. To help keep things in portion and accurate, We create a Block or grid to help guide us.
Figure A:
As you can see, we have a basic guide for our character.
here we block out the size, mass and basic space of movement.
As you can see we have 3 parts. These will act as our guide,
Please note: This is not our cycle, Only the 3 extreme poses that will be used.

The box is used as our spacing. We know that the movement will be contained into this space (does not have to be perfect, But try to be as close as you can)
Next you will notice the Blue line. This is our guide for the head.
The Red line is our center mass.
Green being the knees (not as important as center-mass and head lines)

I know what your thinking "But this is not a perspective view, why do i have to do this??"
This part is very crucial in the perspective walk cycle. So it is very important to get step one down.
Later on as you get used to perspective walk cycles and used to this all, you will not have to draw out step one, because you can do it in your head (crazy huh? but true) but for now, draw it till you learn to love it sissy.

After we have our figure and extreme poses done, we will move on to step 2.

REALLY?! $200 DOLLARS? thats kinda silly
ill send one to you for free if you like it nd use it then i would consider payment ogf no more than 10 dollars
You know some of us are actually trying to make a living of thease kind of stuff ;D

Im not to worried about it, If some one will do it for 10 dollars, Then they get a 10 dollar explosion.
but a commissiond one of quality will be something else.
Also note that if he pays someone to do it, it makes it more easy down the line. alot of sponsors do not want anything that is not created for the game, even if it is free for common use. just breaks down alot of headache in the future.

200 may be a bit much, But it depends on who and how its done. Plus he didn't say 200 flat, he said up to.

Response to: 120bpm and 8fps help Posted February 12th, 2010 in Animation

solid math, but its incorrect for animation.
Problem is the movement or animation will cover 8 frames in a second. That means it will take 4 frames every 1/2 as second.
So your FPS is to low.

Simple harmonic motion (measurement of space)
You have to break down movement on the screen, because you are covering a certain distance in your animation. so most movement will be split into thirds or quarters of the ways.
at 8fps, This means you can only stay on rhythm by animating on extream inbetweens. anything else will be trowing it off.
Also if you are using tweens, You will have make extra sure that they are on the same pace as the rest of the animations.

Now take into account that the flash may lag, Causing the audio and animation off sync.
Or you are just slightly off, and as the animation plays on it snow balls into something that is noticeable.
could be a number of many things. Biggest problem is no matter what happens, at 8fps the human eye will catch it all.

So I would just bump your fps up, you can try to play with 16 fps, But i would go with 24 or 25 FPS and use double frames (this will allow you to tween better, and also still use a lot of your single framed animation)
then you will have alot more control of the animation, the timing and also the playback should be smoother.

Maybe better in the collabs section.
But a cool idea. even more so if writers or voice actors could just post stuff up, then anyone who is out of ideas, or bored can come, animate it.
Kinda like the audio portal, but for ideas.

only down side is animation takes a really long time, so a lot would sit for a wile, if ever used at all.

a little tip i learned that may help.
When you are done with your animation and all the sounds are in.(assuming they are on there own layer)
go to export>Movie>WAV Audio
Now save that. Open the audio you just saved in a audio editor ( i used Audacity)
from there you can see the entire levels of all the sounds, here you can adjust the volumes and such to make sure all is leveled out and such.
Now when you are done, save it.
Go back to flash then go to Import>the sound you just saved.
Put it on its own layer.
This will not only help save file size of the movie, but will also force the flash player to make sure all the audio is on sync.

Response to: Gonna be my first post.. Posted February 11th, 2010 in Animation

There is no point in censoring your self, either curse or don't. Censorship for the sake of doing it is not really funny, nor does it add anything (often takes away)
So if you are not allowed to curse, Then don't. and replace it. Or if you want to curse but don't want get in trouble, make 2 versions, one you show your family and one you show the world.

Pretty funny though, Could use work as others mentioned.

Haha, I was chuckling when she was really struggling to explain exactly what her job was and all of the different things she has to do.

I really love part 3 with Eric Goldberg, he's such an amazing animator. It's interesting to see how cleanly he works, in contrast with other animators such as Glen Keane who is very rough with his drawings.

Yeah, and her shuddering around the talk of "minorities".

Eric Goldberg is pretty amazing, His love of Chuck Jones work really showed.
It is funny how a little inspiration by someone can spawn totally new ways.

Response to: Marvel vs capcom Super background? Posted February 11th, 2010 in Animation

you don't need after effects at all.
Its just a image that is behind them,
You can do it with layers.
have a layer for the ground.
a layer for the characters.
a layer for the background.
now a layer or two for effects.
now add that or what ever image you want to pop up on a layer between the characters and background.

Doesn't even have to be a image, you can do a animation or what ever there.

and if you really want that effect try adding a layer for lighting and another BG when it happens.

Flash 8 pro, just like you.
also for the same reasons.
But as a animator I have yet to see any reason to upgrade to a newer version of Flash, If i did As or so, yeah.
Only reason i even went from MX to 8 was the player was so much better at the time.

Also still using Photoshop CS...no number next to it, Just CS....
