Looking for musician Posted April 5th, 2010 in Audio

Hello Audio portalians.
I am currently developing a game called "Stone Gliders"
It is kinda of a trow back to old school arcade games, but revolved around curling

We are nearing completion and I need music for the game,
The style I am looking for is kind a rock/Arcade mix, Think old school Sega arcade games or Neo Geo.
The music can and will very, but not so much the need for techno nor house.
( I can explain in better details and with samples if contacted)

We will need a variation of music for the game.
from intros, to in game specials/credits music.

You will get paid, How much? i cant say, because i dont know, but will be a % of sponsorship + add rev.

If you are interested please send me a PM or reply to this post.
I dont need examples in this thread, I will contact you for that.

thanks for your time, and have a great day!

you need to provide more for us to judge.
its a incomplete animation so we can only assume or try to perceive it.....
the motion seems good, but in what context? please finish this cycle.

Response to: Best method for character models? Posted April 2nd, 2010 in Animation

Try framing out your pictures, then working on inbetweens.
here I made you a example of what i mean.

Frames 1
Here is just 3 frames i drew up real fast in order to show a quick movement. I only did the key poses i wanted in the movement.

Frames 2
here You can see i spaced them out and added my art and inbetweens on top of that.
One final layer would be needed with the inking to finalize the motion.

I hope these help.

However it COULD work with the right tweeks on a waterfall from a different angle, but not this one. Emporor's new groove did it very good, but they are professionals.

Water fall is really not as hard as it looks, Its basically just showing mass movement with light.
Here is a FLA of Adam Philips waterfall from the first bitey.
You can go in and look at his to help get a better understanding.

Response to: Best method for character models? Posted April 2nd, 2010 in Animation

I would try to avoid using lines or sticks as a model, based on the fact that the principle of animation is all about weight and movement, not just movement. *then there is timing*

But in the end its what ever you are most confy with, There really is no wrong way to do it as long as the end result is what you want.

Now for time issues, You may just want to keep practicing, as you start to animate more you will notice your speed picks up, If not you can run some drills to help speed yourself up.

If you want to do some speed drills its simple, Just take something you animated.
say a 20 second clip. think how long that took you. and then how many frames it was.
Now try to do a new animation of something new, with the same amount of frames (dont reuse any) and try to shave off some time.

repeat this and try shave off about 10 min each time until you find good medium.
try not to rush to fast to the point your project looks horrible.

eventually you will find your confert zone of time+quality.
Then you can try to improve on one of those 2 factors later.

Massively Multiplayer Online game. If this is what you mean, I advise against taking on such an ambitious project if you don't have at least a few years of experience with flash or the industry as a whole.

Making an MMO is not only difficult, but it is very costly, to get and maintain servers. It requires a full team working full time. It is not an easy job, and if you've got less than X amount of players every month, then all your hard work would pretty much be down the drain.

I mainly have the coding side covered but I could always use a fresh person to work on other stuff. As for the art it is lead by a friendly guy who is understanding.

For your work you get a cut of profits (if any is made).
As said above, it takes a lot of time and money to make a game of this sort, so if there is no big profits from this, it may not even pay for itself. Arcade games played for 5 minutes earn thousands of dollars, a project of this caliber should easily get ten of thousands or risk failing.

So basically you're looking for an assistant programmer. I believe to be qualified he'd have to be skilled in advanced programming and server-side work, skills which are scarce here on newgrounds and expensive in the professional realm.

Despite the negative criticism, I do wish you the best of luck. However I just don't want you to waste months of hard work, to be disappointed at the result due to the lack of experience and time needed to complete a project of this caliber.

Pretty much what he said.
I worked for NDOORS for 3 years ( They are a korean MMO company)
My days for 3 years looked like 14 plus hours, 7 days a week. and i was just a community manager, plus odds and ends in marketing and other stuff.

If i take Luminary for example, A smaller scale game that averages only around 1-2k players per day, There was a full staff of about 5 developers on about 8-10 hour days, then a handful of programmers. A full team of artist that just worked on so much.
Then you have the network teams, They maintain everything from the servers to database. These are usaly about 3 or 4 ppl in each section and are working about 8 hour days, plus on call 24 hours in case anything happens.
Then you have to factor in in game staff, QA testers and so on.
And this is all for a small scale MMO.
Now granted i know you are looking at something smaller. But the end result is always going be about the same.
I am not trying to discourage you, I do wish you best but know doing a MMO is like constantly making game, It never ends and you have to be sure you have enough users and profit to cover not only the servers, but the staff who work on it. Because when it gets short handed or something falls below the operation standard, the game itself falls apart like a domino effect.

Response to: Strange Flash Error Posted April 2nd, 2010 in Game Development

Could be a problem with the swf security settings.
If you have any kind of block, or import lock on the swf its self, It may be causing some odd glitch with FF and EI.
Try saving the FLA under a new name, Then exporting it again.
If it still does not work in FF and EI, try disable any site lock or export security you have on it. Then see if it works...

If it still does not work even with the disabled security, Take that SWF and save it off the internet from chrome, Then try uploading the SWF you saved off Chrome and seeing it works in FF or EI.

My thinking is there is either a weird glitch or a line of code FF and EI doesn't like.
Usaly these come from protection security's on the SWF its self

How unscientific of you. Of course its possible that a large impact could shift the axis, and why are you saying its not probable?

Because yet to see any real proof or theory oft something large enough to move the earth or its axis would not be described as a planet killer?
Also probably because we don't share the same theory of the earth going out of orbit then back into it.
Way i see it, and explained to me is that the earth, if in fact was some how knocked out of orbit by something large enough to move it, well it would be heading to the next orbital pull. Not settle back.
I mean it is possible it CAN happen, I wont completely dismiss it, But really anything large enough to move the earth i see it a s a full on planet killer.
Think of it this way, The speed plus the size of something that would knock the earth off...

Over patterns of over 500,000 years, yes, and even then its only to a few degrees.

Wide spread famine and diseases seems to be the culprit.
No it doesn't.

OHH ok, well glad you cleared that up, Ill let all the rest of the community and scholars know.

Dont forget that there ware some animals today that lived back then, Much larger then some of the smaller dinosaurs.
The other animals that were larger than the smaller dinosaurs were larger dinosaurs. Most mammals were small, and the few that were larger are still dwarfed by most dinos.

Crocodiles, Birds. Even plants and tress (many of which die in dark and cold) all survived.
not to mention other marine life and Ground Mammals that didn't die out til much much latter(and we know it wanst from a meteor)

Well, it wouldn't necessarily be pushed into the sun. Keep in mind that the Moon was there to keep the Earth from straying too far from its orbit, though we can be certain there was some sort of axis change or orbital difference.
Do we know the age of the moon? Also, is it possible that our axis is funny now because of that particular asteroid strike? It would explain why dinosaurs were so large in comparison to modern animals. More consistent seasons means no need to worry about 'off seasons', thus a larger sustainable body. Now we have to deal with winter, so we're naturally tinier so we don't require as much food in the cold.

It sort of makes sense, I suppose.

expect winter tends to make nature and even humans fatter(Big) not skinny (small)
We can about determine the age of dinosaurs by the layers in the earth they are found.
Most believe the dinosaurs was already dieing out prior to the asteroid.

Our axis is the way it is because of many factors. None of which could be do to a large impact (Maybe there is some possibility to that, but probably not very probable)
Also the axis moves anyways.

Wide spread famine and diseases seems to be the culprit.

not official at all.
Fossil placement and records show the opposite of a climatic induced freeze out by a asteroid.

I know how advertising works.

Exactly. The person I replied to suggested that even if nobody sees the advert and nobody clicks the advert people would still pay for the advert to exist. Why would they? If I want to launch a product I want people to see it, why would I pay for people to not see it? Read his post again please.

None of which are based off people NOT seeing the advert.

again, You are buying a space on a website. That is the bottom line.
Not a matter of if its seen, clicked, loved or held at night.

Only problem arises if a website puts ads in such a place where they are not in front view, Then that drives the cost to advertise down. But again. there are different forms.

My point was that you pay for a place on a web page, You do not go "well i think this % of users has ad blockers and this % will ignore it so ill only give you X amount" Doesn't work that way.

that was my point.

go try to advertise something on this site, or any site for that matter and come back and tell us.

I know first hand from working at NDOORS what a simple crappy "Play Luminary" banner add brings in.
Its just like a billboard rather ppl buy your product or not, you have to pay for the space.

but then again there are many different kinds of adverts out there

What in earth? Who told you that? :/ Cell Animation is only for parts and F/X? Eh no. Cell animation is used for everything when it comes to traditional animation. Snow white, sleeping beauty, jungle book, Akira. All done on cell. Cells and Acetates are the same thing, in animation industry we still call them cells though, as you can get a roll of cell, and acetates tend to be prechopped to A4 and used for presentation purposes like overheads. Cells are bigger than A4.

What you find now, is animation is still done on paper, if they are working with layout scenes (scenes that are dependant on background and foreground elements) then it may be done on cell. They are usually then worked on with the use of digital inking/ clean up and then digitally coloured. As it's cheaper, more consistent colours and quicker for studios.

I should have elaborated, I meant for the home animator.
And my point was that cells are used for parts of animations, not the hole thing. It is very rare to pick up 15 cells and see 15 frames of full rendered motion. Usually you will see parts, Hands, hair heads etc. never the painted background and the main focal. So that is what i meant when i said its not used for full on animation.
I know the needs and use of cells. I have used em before. I have ruined them before, lol

Response to: Brush tool: smoothing? Posted February 22nd, 2010 in Animation

If you have plenty of nubs (the plastic tips you replace, or should be replacing)
try laying down a piece of paper on your tablet, It helps a lot with smooth lines and also feels just like drawling on paper, But as i said before you will go trough nubs...fast.

one nub will last me a year normally on just the tablet, but with paper down ill go trough a nub in a month, often sooner

So color them or else you can't see anything with the onion skin feature on.

I see the lines with onion skinning.
Line tool is your best option if you want the smoothest line. I usually set the smoothness to no more then 30, that is because flash tends to do weird things with it.

You can also zoom in a lot, Then use the smooth option after it is colored.

Your best bet is just a really steady hand.
IF you do want that professional drawling lines and such, Try Toon Boom, It has a better drawling system. (but it is not alot like flash, So be warned on that)

Response to: Your worst accidents. Posted February 20th, 2010 in General

Hmm, hard say.
I think one of my wost of my injury actually didn't look that bad, but messed me up pretty good.
was at a small show back in 2002 I think. We did this this cruser weight royal rumble.
The end spot was for me to go out during the last final four. I was to take this tag teams finisher, then get trown out, skin the cat, and do a final spot before going over the top.
Well one of the guys in the tag team was super green and didnt really know what he was doing. The move was like a double chock slam, But they sit down with it...nothing major at all.

but here is what happened, The one guy, a veteran worker set me up for it fine, we go up and i go to take the back bump, but the green one had the timing really off. He leaves his feet before i barley left mine, So I am jumping up with Dale (Veteran) but the green guy is now pushing/ pulling me down at the same time. He hits the mat full force, Taking all the spring out of the ring, As the ring is springing back up is when I am coming down with Dales weight (really not so much his).
The impact knocks puts me on queer street( I don't remember after the impact but the tape shows it) After that I guess i make way up to continue the spot, They notice im hurt and trow me over the ropes, But I guess i am continuing the spot and try to skin the cat over the top, They have to literally kick me off. When i hit the bottom (all concrete, no mats) i am just out, could not move. I was laying there for about 5 min. Most thought i was just selling it. After the match some one awakes me enough to tel me go to the back, I am basically crawling up the ramp.
After that i was out for a good 3 months where i could not move my neck. If anyone ever had a neck injury you find you can do anything...at all that does not hurt your neck. Life sucked for 3 months till it finally healed/fused back together.
That was one of the worst.

Next would be my arm getting snapped at the elbow doing jujitsu.
We was just demonstrating a move when the guy doing it slipped on these crappy maps and snapped my arm.
That resulted in a metal elbow and cast with pins sticking out for about 4 months. and a nasty scar with a lame story behind it.
