Second.
To start, Put more effort and time into it.
its not even practice if you are not applying yourself or trying for a goal.
This just seems to be random objects being put in, and taken away.
If you want try stop motion and practice it.
set up a stage, a idea and try to execute it the best you can.
If you want to create the best looking animation you can, it is not really a matter of the program.
anything that puts frame together will work.
The underline is the production if it all.
I would use either ToonBoom (I prefer TB) or Flash.
Use photoshop or Painter X for my backgrounds and lighting.
Do my animation in any Program (lets say flash)
Instead of Animating like would in flash,(movie clips, tweens ETC.) I would animate on the main time line, Do my basic coloring in flash. Then export the Images to Photoshop for any touch up or effects i want. (its really good for soft shading)
Import them back into flash (or any flip book program)
Next export the sequence of motion as a mov.
From there i would Use after effects to level out lighting, add extra effects. backgrounds and so on.
repeat this over and over, All wile adding music and sounds on top of the movies i am exporting.
This can be a super tiresome task. But in the end you would have a better product then just one program because you would be using everything at your disposals to get the best animation you can.

Hello! I entered this Flash Animation into the Aniboom Sesame Street contest. I picked the "Remake the classic Pinball Animation" category.
I created everything using Adobe Illustrator and then imported into Flash. I mainly used vector point manipulation with a few new drawn frames.
I'd really appreciate if anyone has the time to check it out. It's just over 1 min in length. The winners will be announced May 10th! Thanks everyone! Let me know what you think!
Not bad at all.
I liked the color scheme you used, Stuck with the old 70's style, but you had more modern twist on it.
I felt the animation was a bit lacking, and the same view every scene kind of made it feel flat and a bit dull.
over all was pretty good, best of luck with the competition.

Awards by the community for the community.
anyways we are way of topic in the animation forum.

I did, and also why do i have to do research? I dont give the awards away.
But lets not make this a argument and try find a positive.

I think a good idea would be to get the audio community together and have your own awards, Not just a post on who you feel should win, But even make actual awards ceremony with your own trophy's or even prizes.
You can organize it trough the mods, Have it a vote (like choice awards) or a small panel that pics
You can even hook up with a artist and programmer and post it up on NG,
I think it would be cool, Hell if its organized well enough ill even volunteer my self to help out with any art and animations.
Also to add, Tom doesn't have to consult the community, Its not popularity contest.
It is also his award, he can do what he damn well pleases with it.
even though this is the wrong place, I'll weigh in,
First of all you need to understand that these awards( AA movies) are subjective to a small pannel and what they think.
Also everyone has different music taste. In fact i think music has one of the most varying taste of anything.
With that said.
I have read allot about the audio complaints, and problems. I also see allot of ppl pulling there music off and saying there going stop posting because there getting 0' bombed and what not.
My feeling is, If thats how you feel, Good riddance.

Part of being apart of a community is also knowing that you will have ppl that dont like you, ppl that will troll you and people that will go out of there way to slam you and try to discredit/make you look bad.
If that gets to you, then its probably best you do quit.
But back to awards, yeah awards are often not fair, and some one will always contest em, But thats life.
It happens at the VGA's, Any movie awards and most diffidently at music awards.
You just accept this, Congrats the winners and move on.
You don't see major musician, actors, game designers and directors going" Oh F this, Im quiting all together"
They may say"bullshit" but they move on and do what they love.

I feel ashamed. It's all I've got.
Its simple.
You just want to pick a color.
Then make a pallet going to white.
Here i picked pink.
As you can see i simple walked the colors up towards white.
Wile doing this you want to add each to custom colors. This will be your pallet.
I only did 5 colors to give you a idea, But you will want to add more as these will be the only colors you can work with.
Be sure to keep it on the same shade when doing this.
As long as the pictures you used do not break any rules with federal law, You are fine.
As long as you do not make money off them and give proper credit it is also fine. (that would be a sponsors problem anyways)
But if you are using parody that some company's may see as hurting there image, they may try come after you
In worst case you will just have to remove it, But that almost never happens Charlie brown.
Just stay with in the rules and use discretion.
NG is a free place, UNDER THE LAW.
So dont break any laws. with the images you use. and you will be fine
Go to export move, then save as a wav.
Now delete all the sound layers you have in your flash.
Go to import and import the wav you just saved.
This will force the player to play every frame, even if its silence.
If you do that and it is still lagging, Go to publish settings>set stream. Set it to speech at the highest settings.
If you hear cracks and pops you may need to edit the sounds or song in the edit menu in the properties (when music layer is selected)
To do this just bring the black bar down some until you no longer have any cracks.
If you try all that and its still lagging or of sync, You may have to much going on,
You can try to elevate some of the CPU by making backgrounds, or highly detailed parts as PNG.
To do this you just need to export them as a PNG, then re import them. Or if you are using Flash 8 or above, You can select the symbols and click the Bitmap run time.
I had this elaborate plan to finish the 3 or 4 animations i have started each year for pico day but didn't finish in time.
I figured since i worked on em all, before, it should be easy.
and epic, all i have to do is tweak the story's a bit and finish em.
Ima shoe in.
and here i am, again, going to not just but late, but none at all. SO i have 4 unfinished pico day projects. I will combine the 3 i had before into the forth for next march/april
at this rate , Il have something done by 2013
There are just things you simply will not be the best at. No matter what.
there is a reason why Animation studios have full teams.
From background artist to painters, to special effects guys, Even ppl who do nothing but shade and add lighting. This is not because they cant achieve there main goal, it is because this is what they are best at. They have worked hard and find they excel in these areas. You can try to be a jack of all trades and master of none. But not only will that not get you to your goal, You will mostly end up frustrated when you hit the wall and either give up or hate yourself and what you do.(often both)
But that does not mean you should just give up and only focus on what your good at. In fact it means the opposite, Most times you want to straighten your week spots, But the key factor is understanding. Understanding yourself, what you excel at and where your weak, then improving your weakness wile keeping your strengths sharp. all wile understanding that you may never be the best background artist, or designer.
You may never be able to come up with the worlds most likable character, but you can animate the hell out of one.
You may never be able to write some epic tail that spans 400 years of magic folklore, But you sure as hell can design it, You may not be able to have people pissing there pants in laughter but you sure can animate it, paint it, market it. what ever. You get the point.
We all have week spots.
As Mr Miyagi told Daniel son, Balance is not needed just for karate, But in life also.
Also in animation.
knowing your weakness and strengths can save you allot of frustrations.
I know I suck at characters design, I also suck at menus and logo designs. Does this mean i cant Animate?
No not at all. It means I know my weakness's, Wile i do try to improve on them I do not let it effect me wile doing a project because in understanding, saves me allot of hardship and frustration.
A good way to stay on key is keeping your head in the game.
As said before your brain and pen is connected, So it must stay that way.
Wile it gets hard at times and you start staring at a blank screen or page, and your brain is equally as blank. Try to remind yourself of where you are, Why you are doing this.
Dont be afraid to find alternatives.
Just because you like the way it looks on the story board, or in your mind, Doesn't mean its going look good in application. You dont have to stick to your guns if it isnt working, or most importantly..Your not feeling it.
Even if you just cant do it. Again, going with our strength and weakness, It is not just a broad term, You may be able to animate well, but certain perspectives give you troubles, Dont get upset and give up. Work around it. I know many say its lazy and a cheap cope out. But hey! its your project, do it the way you need to. And later you can practice to either improve on it, or say "F it, Its not my bag"
Do not be afraid to skip to parts that motivate you.
One blank screen may be stopping you, But if there is another part you cant wait to get to, or just feel like doing at the moment, DO IT!
Allot of times you get stuck on a part then do other parts and find a better way, or scene. So you save your self frustration and also time.
This last part may seem like a deterrent and contradict everything I wrote above, but its another hard fact.
You may not be cut out to be a animator.
Sadly its the truth, not all great artist can animate, Not all great story tellers can animate, Not every great illusionist can animate.
Its not that they cant because of genes and genetic code, It is because of the simple fact they lack the passion or patience, The concentration and dedication needed to finish a project.
But does that mean if you lack any of the quality you cant fulfill your dream? not at all!
as i said before, every one lacks somewhere.
Knowing your role and finding it.
Dont be afraid to team up, ask for help or just simple get involved in a project where you can be used.
Most important, If you love it, keep doing it. Dont worry about end result or what ppl say. Or even if you ever finish anything. I just love animating and just simple creating. I have more undone projects (and more excuses why they are not finished) then anyone, but it doesn't stop me.
Part for the Animation Main (where ever that went)
Knowing Yourself, Your strength and weakness's
I am going to ramble on about things i get asked allot and see allot. One day i made a document that I would just send to people, Instead of retyping it again and again.
Most all find it useful, So ima post it here.
I am not going to go into anything that involves drawling or key-framing, But one of the most important aspects of animating, And also touch on one of the most overlooked things for beginner.
That is, Your mind set.
Before you even lay pencil to paper. (or plastic to plastic)
Or before you start your story boarding, There is one thing to remember, Yourself!
Animation is not a series of pictures drawn together, nor is it some lines that resemble shapes.
It is all about motion. Life and creation.
"Drawing with out thinking is just doodling, The brain and the pen is connected."
What this means is behind every sequence of animation, or movie is a mind set, A goal and a mood to be set or feeling to be portrayed.
Knowing this will not only help you with the animations its self, but it is good to keep you on track and motivated.
Understanding that lines are nothing more then a way to tell the background from the foreground is a good start. Many times i see people so hard pressed on there inking, and line work, getting frustrated and everything feels wrong and art becomes "tight". (Ive been there to)
They forgot and lost there whole reason behind what they was doing to start with.
Yes having good art and nice line helps allot and is needed in great animations, But that is why I am writing this. Its all about knowing yourself, Your strengths and weakness.
One of the first things to note is that Animators are a egotistical bunch, Rated right under astronauts and fighter pilots. Not because we are necessarily cocky (though allot are) but because we have hard passion and strive for perfection. We are highly motivated and to be a animator you have to have great patience and concentration, along with a hard line of motivations backed with knowledge to know what the hell you are doing anyways.
From the outside, animation seems easy, I mean its mostly kids stuff right? so how hard can it be?
Then when you go "I want to do that, I love animated films or I want make a funny" Thats when you Start, crack the tip of the iceberg and everything seems so complected and imposable to learn, But eventually you start to do it, Trial and error, learning from others, Studying and practice practice practice.. all wile striving to achieve what ever it was you wanted to do when you first started animating.
If you are like me you either forgot why you started your first project or realized it wasn't all that good to start and you moved on to something better, more challenging. (here comes some ego)
Back to point, With all this hard work and skill you gain, as you get better and better from years of work, stuff from your head ends up in motion, Then you eventually make something..dare i say..You are proud of!
That is when the hard reality of life comes in.
Some one is always better, Yes we know that, But in our efforts to be like those who inspire us, those who we study. In our minds, we want to be better. We want take what they did and make it a million times better. rather it be working for Disney on some epic grossing, award winning film, Or just dethroning Adam Philip/Egoraptor, Johnny Utah (Or insert a name) and become the king of the portal, or simply for our self gratification. We have a desire.
What drives us is that its not imposable, Although at times it can seem to be.
But there is a hard limiting factor here. Not only will no matter what you do, and how hard you try, there will always be someone better, That can be a positive in motivation and drive us, But there are just things you simply will not be the best at. No matter what.
I broke this up into 2 parts

that way you can contribute to the mock turtleneck society
Try using guide lines to keep your proportions.
A good trick is to remember sizes.
Like draw a T on the face, remember the size of the T for ever frame
that way, no matter where it moves you know its size.
You can also try adding lines over each frame if you cant onion skin or light book it.
You can even go super old school and simply measure the head, then each frame make sure it is of the right size
