Look, in order for it to be on the list, it had to have these qualities:
1.) incredibly good. I mean, you would want to see it again and again and created huge lines, like Jaws and It's A Wonderful Life
C'mon, like the Matrix doesn't meet that. According to your profile, you're 15, so you'd be maybe 7 or 8 when the Matrix was released. You can't appreciate how revolutionary and great it was at the time it was released. It doesn't stand out now because every action movie that followed it copied it.
2.) revolutionary for it's time. The Matrix didn't do anything besides introduce bullet time into the world, while a movie like Titanic, Platoon, or The Sixth Sense changed the way we saw an event or made films.
Most of the action movies that followed The Matrix copied a lot about it, music, camera angles, martial arts, and stuff.
3.) had a deeper meaning. A film like Citizen Kane is #1 because it makes you think, unlike today's movies. Fight Club is a movie; there's fighting, love, and that's it.
pfft, I'm just comparing it to the movies on there. It deserved a spot on there. In 50 years, I fully expect the Matrix to be in the top 10 or 20 when this generation of actors/directors dies and a new generation that has grown up with movies like the Matrix are doing the judging.
