I would be really shocked if I were about to lose an eye.

Well,instead of putting it there,fill it with water,insert the long thing at the end of it in your ear (it must be quite deep inside,but be careful not TOO deep,as it can rarely perforate your eardrum) and then spray the water inside your ear. The wax should then come out really easily.
