I made a fresh little funk/jazz song. It's short and sweet!

Response to: gangsta samurai music competition Posted September 6th, 2009 in Audio

This seems like a really cool contest idea. It would help to know the BPM of the beat though.

Response to: The Bipolar Contest Posted June 29th, 2009 in Audio

That sounds like fun, maybe I'll give it a try.

Response to: I've got a challenge for you. Posted June 28th, 2009 in Audio

I might want to take part in the contest, but my first song was garbage.

That depends on how you define 'skilled musician'

Is it someone whose tracks represent superior musical understanding?

Or is it the guy whose music is more widely enjoyed?

These are not necessarily the same person.

Well if I were to pick between those two definitions, it would be the person whose tracks represent superior musical understanding. People don't have to like a song for it to be skillfully crafted.

Response to: Nobody apreciates you guys enough. Posted May 19th, 2009 in Audio

I was referring to the average newgrounds composer. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, I'm just being realistic.

Response to: Nobody apreciates you guys enough. Posted May 19th, 2009 in Audio

This thread is a joke, right? How can anyone compare the audio portal to professional quality music? I don't want to sound mean, but anyone who thinks that the music here is "perfect" has an awful ear.

Response to: need help with song Posted May 19th, 2009 in Audio

You can use a program called Audacity to trim raw audio clips to their correct size. Then, in FL go to the menu: Channels > Add One > Audio Clip. When the new audio clip is created you can assign an audio file to it and then place it in your playlist or pattern.

Response to: Lyrics or song first? Posted May 19th, 2009 in Audio

In my opinion it makes a lot more sense to write lyrics before music. At least if you want your music to follow the lyrics, anyways. From my experience the best songs arise from well-defined emotional themes ahead of time.

Response to: The End Of Macs? Posted May 19th, 2009 in Audio

I hope they have a contest while I'm off school for the summer. It's the only time that I'll be able to produce a really top-quality entry.

Response to: Musicianship Posted May 19th, 2009 in Audio

Naturally, someone who writes and records all of their own music is a more skilled musician than someone who mixes samples in garage band, but there isn't a black and white way to classify people as musicians or otherwise. There are so many degrees varying from "assembler" and a professional, how can you really define where to draw the line?

That's complete bs, compositional and theory training can really help. Especially when you have a melody in your head and there's no computer in site and you want to write it down. The only way it can hamper you is if you let it (kind of like a mental addiction). If anything it gives you more tools at your disposal.

Information is always a good thing and never a weakness.

I guess that came off sounding a little more radical than I meant. I just don't think a music theory approach is the right approach for someone when they're just starting out. Though it is worth consulting as they get further along. I have a special sort of reverence for writing by ear, though.

Response to: What makes a worthy remix? Posted May 13th, 2009 in Audio

Ok, whatever, it's completely besides the point. I really haven't followed along whatever discussions about it there have been or whatever, its just based on the profile.

What makes a worthy remix? Posted May 13th, 2009 in Audio

In your opinion, what qualifies a remix to be put on the audio portal? In my opinion there are all too many lame remixes on the portal with users taking credit for their ruined version of an otherwise good song. The only remixes I can find that I think are worthy of praise and being called a remix (rather than a ripoff) are ParagonX9's, because she doesn't just take the instruments from the midi and give them random synthesizers. She adds to the song with her own DnB patterns as well as emphasizing original melodies in new ways so to give them an emotion different from their original intentions. Plus, she's pretty fucking good at mixing.

I ask because I've tried doing remixes in the past but I've never really been happy with them. I submitted some on my old account but all my music on that account was shit (so I wont get into that :P), and they weren't really special. What do you guys want to see in a remix? Do you even consider remixes valid to begin with?

Response to: In need of a dark, ambient song Posted May 13th, 2009 in Audio

It may be a stretch that this is what you're looking for, but I made it with very dark themes in mind. It's not so much horror though. It's worth a shot I guess.

Relative pitch is fairly easy to attain. I wouldn't know about perfect pitch, but that's really just a show off talent. ;)

I dont even know where to turn the dancing chibi girl on in the first place. I may stop using FL due it it's limitations though. Well... it's not really limited but it's not very streamlined for doing advanced things.

Response to: The Higher Realm Of Music - Guide Posted October 8th, 2008 in Audio

Music theory is overrated. The ear is all powerful.

Response to: audio qoutes about space lphe Posted October 1st, 2008 in Audio

:also people from the flash portal can use your music and then sell it

No, they can't. The creative commons license for the newgrounds audio portal says the songs can't be used for profit. If someone wants to sell the music they have to get your permission.

Response to: Is the audio portal kinda fixed? Posted October 1st, 2008 in Audio

The audio portal just doesn't get enough honest traffic to be fair like the flash portal. I would say most of the top songs aren't very good, but they're made by people with big names and lots of mindless fans.

Response to: Looking for a plug-in Posted September 27th, 2008 in Audio

Go to findsounds.com and start searching for industrial sounds. You're not going to find a plugin that magically has all of the gritty industrial sounds that you're looking for. You can also chop sounds up to get what you're looking for. For example, in my song Industria there are plenty of machine-like sound effects. I got all of the sounds from find sounds.com. The robotic machine in the background is just a chopped up recording of a copying machine. The other noises are things like hammers, drills, ect.

Response to: metal lyrics Posted September 27th, 2008 in Audio

Why even include lyrics if they don't mean something to you? It's dumb to throw in crappy lyrics for the sake of having them. Get poetic and write about stuff you care about.

Response to: Record Dealers on NG? Posted September 27th, 2008 in Audio

Sorry, but there are very few people on the newgrounds audio portal that produce professional quality music. I seriously doubt that the record industry has taken note of this place.

Response to: Techno Argument Posted September 27th, 2008 in Audio

To deny that techno is music is just plain stupid. If music contains different tones in order to be as such, then it's music. Period. It can be the worst shit ever, but it's still music. I'm of the opinion that if something is either rhythmic and/or tonal, then it is music. And by tonal I don't mean of a specific tonality, I just mean that it features pitches that are intended as notes.

Nothing irks me more than someone who claims that one kind of music isn't actually music. That's naive and arrogant.

The only song of mine that really fits your description is this one: Macaroni and Cheese

If you like it, great. Otherwise, whatever. :D
