Topic: Can we stop with the threadshitting

Posted: 10/06/09 10:11 PM

Forum: General

Seriously it does absolutely no one any good to go to a thread and post nothing but how lame you think the thread is. I am not trying to say that the threads that are shat on are good threads. In fact 9 times out of ten I agree with the threadshitter, but that is all the more reason for you to not point that out. If the thread sucks just let it die. Don't float it to the top with some attempt at wit that face-plants into the concrete.

There are on occasion some hilarious threadshitting posts. Those, however, are way too few and far between. Since all of us are biased to think our attempts at humor are always funny I think we should all just refrain from threadshitting. I think we can live with out the few funny posts if it means we dont have to read the thousands posted every week that either try and fail to comedically point out the banality of the thread or, just point that out without even the attempt of humor

Seriously if the thread sucks you pointing that out does nothing but breathe new life into a shit thread. And if you are wrong and it doesn't suck then you are just a dick. I think rule or no rule we should at least try to tone down the threadshitting and just let bad threads either be locked or die a natural death.

Yeah I am certain that asking NG for advice about it will yield more informative and helpful results than asking your doctor. Also maybe you should listen to these random people on the internet who have never met you and just tell your doctor to go fuck him self.

NGers know that this is a bullshit diagnosis the doctors re just behind in the times.

well yeah.. theres another book similar called Finnegans Wake which is embraced by drug users, but the author probably didn't drugs other than alcohol

Yeah I have often wanted to read that, but been too intimidated by it. I kind of think I would have to read it very slowly and probably more than once to come to some mild interpretation of it, and still probably would be lost in its abstractness.

My colleges school colors are also red and white, but i dont think they were based on mushrooms. It is just a coincidence

sure they are on the christmas cards but they are simply a sign of good luck. It is just multiple traditions coming together as is usually the case with modern traditions. For example many spring time celebrations celebrated fertility and were associated with rabbits, the religious holliday of easter was celebrated around the same time. They merged into easter being associated with rabbits. Jesus has nothing to do with rabbits or vice versa, it is just the non-sensical evolution of modern traditions.

Appearing on cards that are around the same annual date, and sharing a color scheme I dont believe means the idea of Santa Claus was centrally based around mushrooms. I mean being on christmas cards and sharing the same colors is not enough evidence for me.

It is mildy interesting but not really anything I would put faith into

Also just want to point out here you are much more reasonable than I thought at first

"Historian Ronald Hutton has since ruled out the connection;[134] he noted reindeer spirits did not appear in Siberian mythology, shamans did not travel by sleigh, nor did they wear red and white, or climb out of smoke holes in yurt roofs. Finally, American awareness of Siberian shamanism postdated the appearance of much of the folklore around Santa.[135]"

ok fair enough I seemed to have misunderstood you to a degree. I thought you were Implying that because they resemble in appearance mushrooms in super mario that made you grow. lewis caroll used them to make alice grow.

You are in fact correct that people theorize that is where he got the idea from. But it is also fact that we will never know, and the link between the drink cake and fan that all change Alice's size and mushrooms Is tenuous at best.

People who take mushrooms and watch the disney movie start finding what they want to find. It is like how you can play "dark side of the moon" with "wizard of OZ" and they sync up perfectly. All members of pink flyd have said it was just a coincidence.

There are thousands of references in literary works about changing size it is just a fantastical idea. Did Johnathan Swift take mushrooms too or was he just creative.

I am glad to see you weren't any where nearly as ridiculous as i thought (assuming i understand correctly now). I still disagree with you though. Caroll was just creative and maybe just a wierd guy. It is like NG there is tons of very creative strange cartoons and games here. Just because they are fantastical doesnt mean the authors did drugs or had to base their work on experiences of drug users.

Lewis Carrol wrote both stories long before the invention of LSD. I guess you could argue that he was on other drugs but as far as I know there is no evidence of it or reason to believe he was under the influence while writing.

Literary nonsense was his genre. He just wrote fantasy and was really good at it. Read some of his poems Jaberwocky uses many "words" that aren't words yet it somehow makes sense.

The movie versions aren't really that different. The most famous disney one, I know, does combine the two books into one.

There is a ton of depth to all of his work. I think some of the most interesting is stuff in his stories related to math. His main profession was being a mathematician and he was very gifted with that. For example the Cheshire Cat was a representation of a growing abstract mathematical idea from the time. Basically the idea was about math and numbers themselves. Instead of thinking about "one man" or "two men" you can think of the concept "man" upon which we add the concept "one" or "two". But a more abstract thought is to consider simply "one" or "two" by themselves.....or a grin with no cat, when the grin was originally predicated on the cats presence

So where I work they are always doing prizes and drawings for random stuff for the top performers. Often times the prizes are gift cards. I have been accumulating a ton of walmart cards lately and now I have about $150 but don't know what to buy

I should just get groceries and practical things maybe gas. I want to buy something fun and not disposable though. I was thinking a new game (xbox or pc) but there isn't much that is too appealing to me, at least not that I know about.

nope I am actually 26, and apparently you are the one scrounging for insults since your only insult is to call me 12.

and yes you are an elitist, not for not being an alcoholic but for not drinking, and no that does not mean times are changing. People have been drinking for thousands of years. Also we have been getting better and better at making alcohol so if anything, somebody refusing to drink indicates times are changing.

Also you are being an elitist because you went to a thread about sharing fun stories from nights where you drink to tell all the people in the thread they were alcoholics. Drinking does not inherently mean you are an alcoholic. To be classified an alcoholic you have to have a consistent negative impact on your life from problems associated with drinking (according to the DSM-IV). I, and I m sure most in here, do not.

Also yes i do not know you in real life but I know your type. The asshole who thinks everyone is beneath them, that you are smarter than everyone you know, and that no one understands you. In my life experience those types dont have many friends. What sucks is that they usually are cool and smart but they are such assholes that they alienate themselves from everyone around them.

I think it is ironic you call me arrogant. Stop going to threads telling people why they aren't as good as you and go fucking chill out with a beer dude.

Also MRFinland no offense to you at all man. I think it is great that you have stopped drinking, I hve nothing against people who don't drink just against people who judge others when they don't deserve it. I quit smoking both pot and more recently cigarettes. almost 2 years no ganja now I am proud quit stuff like that is hard especially if you have friends still doing it

Contrary to what MTV says, you don't have to be drunk to have a good time.
