So: battle stressed soldiers go too far and do something stupid and offensive. I wonder if America has the same figurative description of these kind of things as the Brits do.

Marines stand in front of SS flag.

Check the "Artist Status" page ;)

Oh I feel so special :P If only I wasn't in the same block as freakin RampantMusik and Samulis. Freaking intense competition.

Most of the research I did was word of mouth, asking my boss about traditional Indian music (he's a devout Hare Krishna). Rather than read a load of stuffy (largely Western) books, I thought I'd get to know the ins and outs of a raag far better by turning up to open mic nights where traditional raaga were performed, jamming with my friend Munraj on the tabla for the Indian Classical elements. How should I present this research? I can provide internet sources to verify what I picked up from them if that helps :)

The Goa elements I just got through a series of tripped out jams and a couple trance parties with my friend Chris :P I suppose I could get together a list of the songs that influenced me, provide some links on the thread (for epic bumpz) if that's all good with the mods.

Really psyched about the competition! This is gonna be awweesaum!!

I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to agree with T3XT in that all this Illusionist shit just makes you look like a psued. You probably aren't, but that's how it looks. Anyone can just yell "THAT'S SUBJECTIVE", it doesn't lead to terribly interesting conversations.

Thanks, but this is a pretty permanent break up. I love her, and the way we were, but things have fallen apart. Its not her, as much of a cliché as that sounds, she's an amazing person. We've just grown apart, I told her I couldn't see us together in the long run (we're going to different unis in October) and she said she couldn't see the point in a relationship with a time limit set on it.

Altruistic suicide FTW.

Actually, a PoI, my other half went through a long suicidal patch, and tried to join the army. They have psychological checks, they didn't allow her in. Think about it: a soldier's death might help their country in some circumstances, but usually it'll just demoralise their comrades and encourage their enemies.

In the army, its not selfish to cling on to life so you can fight another day.

ALSO, AS A WIDER POINT

One thing I think worth mentioning: suicides are far more frequent in 1st world than 3rd world countries (the psychiatrist Theodore Dalrymple suggests this is because a struggle to live shows us the value of life). If a person hates life so much, why don't they just try and learn to think differently? That's what I did after three years of depression, and I've never been happier since!

I'm not saying its cowardly or selfish: a desperate act shouldn't be labelled as either of those things IMO, and I think its over simplistic to label it as "retarded", but I think suicide is wholly unnecessary in 90% of cases (save of course if suicide is chosen as a form of euthanasia, when there really is no solution to suffering ie: the end stages of muscular dystrophy).

Just my two cents :)
