That last image looks really weird with the text.. I actually kind of dig the effect. Also, I'm glad you are posting your work here on Newgrounds where it will be appreciated, instead of on the walls of your city where it will become depreciated. Keep it up man, your skills are obviously advancing.. a lot of this type of work always looks better in ink. Lets see some of your ink work.

Yea, I was actually thinking about using the the second one for gunshots/sword attacks.. maybe the style of the first one for the standard punch / kick animations.

Hey Everyone..

I am making a 2D sidescrolling beat-em-up flash game and I would like to get some of your opinions on the blood spurts I've been working on. Please let me know which one of 3 spurts you like best and how I could improve the look.

Sf/mk Style Special Moves? As 2.0 Posted September 15th, 2008 in Game Development

Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of developing a side-scrolling beat-em-up game and I want to add in some special moves.

I already have the standard punch, kick, blocking, combo stuff..

What I am looking for is if anyone has any code examples or theories on how to program special moves in Actionscript 2.0.
ex.

(down + forward) + punch = Hadouken
(forward + forward) + kick = Flying Kick

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks..

Stylized animated blood spurts. Posted September 10th, 2008 in Art

Hello,

I am a new member here at Newgrounds, although I have been visiting the site for a number of years. I have created an account to track the progress of my 2D side scrolling beat-em-up game. You can find out more details about my project by visiting my profile page.

In any case, I am looking for people who may be interested in lending some art to my project.

Right now I am working on blood.. I want the blood in my game to be a very noticeable feature. I have created some code that chooses randomly from 10 different blood spurts that play when the hero or enemy is hit. Also, there is code to play a different set of blood spurts when the player or enemy is knocked to the ground.

My problem is that my blood doesn't look gory or stylized enough.. and so I am looking to the fine people here for help. The style of blood I'm looking for would be like anime/samurai/spawn type art.

There may be other art assets needed for the game as well. If this seems like something you would like to do and lend your name to the credits of my game (sorry, no pay).. Send me a PM or AIM: r0w0x.

I can send the artist a beta of the games current game play if they need to get a feel for the movement.

Also, if you're reading this and you would like to beta test the game.. get in contact with me.

Thanks for your time!

I have recently come across an amazing tool in flash that allows you to control the stage as a camera. It is called vCam. In short, it is a virtual camera for flash.

You can zoom, pan, shake, and basically move the camera anyway you want through keyframes. Also, you can call upon the component in your script.
