Also, what you can do, is select the channel you're using in the step sequencer, and then right click the mixer channel you want to use, and select "Link Selected Channels."

Useful if you're going to be mixing more than one channel at a time.

Anyways, to get 44.1khz, all you have to do is Edit>>Preferences and adjust the rate there to 44100.

Or you could change the little thing on the bottom left corner to get 44100hz.
