Hey guys, I've started dating a girl yesterday and on Tuesday we're meeting up in town and spending the day together. I'm terrified of making an ass of myself or the conversation dying. Mainly the latter. How do I keep the conversation going and interesting?

There are loads but there's also talent here, most asshats and idiots stick to General or Video Games.
There is a talent to asshat curve. (See below).

As you can see, it peaks when people have a small ammount of skill, then goes down again, this is because people with more skill hang around on this forum less, and have real lives. Hence don't give a crap about what anyone here thinks. Also, people with quite a fair bit of skill tend to hang around here telling everyone else what to do (like the last 2 posters). They rate quite high on the asshat scale. I also took the liberty or writing in blue the estimated time for these people to mature.

Enjoy

Fair points, few of the big names hang around here but there are others with a lot of AS knowledge or art talent that drop by regularly enough. Nice graph by the way.

I already have a few platformer engines perfect for this kind of thing, and most of the other stuff such as enemy AI, coins/score and such are easy to do too so the coding won't be a problem.

That's perfect then, whenever your schedule isn't as full, e-mail me or even add me on msn and we can discuss it more. Also score was the only thing I'd say I managed perfectly without having to mess around with the script a few hundred times XD

Its pretty awesome, although I would have prefered if the walking cycle was like that of Mario's, the art is great. I really wish we could work on this but I have too much stuff at the moment, but I'll be glad to do this when I'm done.

Well whenever you have time let me know and I'll send you the .fla without the code so you can handle it whatever style you like. I'll manage the art and animation. E-mail whenever you have some free time to begin zombie-kangaroo@hotmail.co.uk

Even if you have a little time, you could code some simple things such as movement and going to the next screen, then I could just continue on with the art and once that's finished hopefully you'll have free time. It's all up to you :)

That looks awesome, the Paper Mario style fits it very well too :)

That was actually the name of it "Paper Zelda" I felt the Toon Link style would fit better than the realistic one. I posted a short demo on LegendaryFrog's forums which just featured jumping and collecting ruppees and a Stalfos waddling back and forth but he didn't do anything, as I've said I'm a bit of a n00b programmer. If you're interested I could actually stick the newest demo of it up, however, it only has the one map right now.

Yup, I just got out some old Fash projects and screenshotted them, hopefully that's sufficient enough.
Sample 1 This is from a Zelda platformer I was doing for fun, the master sword there is the mouse.
Sample 2 A Pokemon project I started featuring Gary as the main character.
Sample 3 A Twilight Princess parody I'm still working on. I lost the main file so I've had to start animating from scratch but I still had all my models backed up.
Sample 4 This guy is an original acorn/guy/hybrid thing that I designed for fun and had thought of trying to start a game with but never started.

Hope this is enough, if not I'll post more.

Well I started off keeping everything simple, borrowing small ideas from other artists in my work (none of it actually put online or anything) and slowly I sort of molded it into my own style. Just keep persevering and you improve a great deal.

Hello there, recently I've been experimenting with coding and I've not gotten very far but I like to keep trying new things each time I get any inspiration but until then I'm going to keep learning in silence. So I was wondering if there are any good coders out there that are having trouble with art of finding an artist? If so, I'll gladly give whatever you want a shot.

Well, I guess I've proven you wrong.

I lol'd. As for the game, try and give it some sort of theme based on say...a movie or a period of history such as the dark ages and so on.

Yeah seems like a good list to me, I'd keep THUG1 instead of THUG2. I always preferred the first one in terms of levels and storylines, the only thing it lacks is the playable characters.

Definitely, first time through I didn't bother with the Infrared thing and had to just unleash all the ammo I could to beat them. I actually managed to complete the game still but when I learned about the Infrared I just wanted to hit myself because I could have saved so much hassle.

Rather than using 4 separate movieclips to act as boundaries for a square object, is there any sort of code I could use to prevent all contact with the movieclip but not freeze my character or even something that just prevents the character going within the coordinates of a movieclip? The instance name of my character is "Gary", thanks for any/all help.
