Hey kids, how about writing a couple blog posts and actually adding an avatar and banner to your userpages before complaining about being ignored? Seriously, when I was looking on newgrounds for coders, I didn't pay any attention to anyone who's userpage looks like they just registered yesterday... and neither will Tom Fulp or anyone else.

I'm at work so all I can draw with is MS paint and a mouse:

I think a better filter would be "please do not submit a team application unless two of your team members isn't still using the default tankman avatar. Seriously, half that roster are tankmans!

Great entries, but nothing as epic as last year :(

Aw, I love you too FBIpolux. <3

My contribution to the collab was really the best I could do this year, coursework was insane and I'm glad we were able to set up a collab because I wouldn't have had enough time to make anything that could have stood up on its own.

Hopefully for PD10, I'll remember to make more time, and make something more epic, april kinda snuck up on me this year.

Though I do like the medal award system, and hope that it will be further integrated, I don't think that it should be awarded with a tank-award. Maybe some special Medal to be awarded for being the best gamer of the year, to be showcased on ones userpage, and perhaps some prize involved with it (store credit or something).
My primary concern would be that people would use external applications to cheat their way to the medals, in order to win a Tank-award (or as I suggested, a smaller prize)
But I can fully support the idea of rewarding users and audience of Games/movies on the page, since it is a good way to make people interested in them, other websites have been doing that for years, with seemingly great success.
I regularly visit Kongregate for this particular thing alone, and due to them highlighting special challenges and Achievements, I have been drawn to play games, that I have never heard of before.

i agree, medals are awesome, rewards would be pretty cool too but e-penis enlargement should be more than enough incentive for people to want them. Also, if all somebody had to do to get a tank award was play a bunch of flash games all year, it would lower the prestige of the tank awards as a whole.

Hmm, I think the awards should be more directed towards generating content for the website. A prize for medals would be pretty awesome though

I was thinking of how cool the awards video turned out this year for the tank awards. It would be neat if they had different categories than just "game" and "movie" to make the awards even more epic. For instance:

"Best writing"
I think this would be a good idea because it gives a chance to recognize movies that are amazingly well-written, but might not have the same graphical appeal as other flashes. For instance, in 2007, Waterlollies won, but I think some ppl might agree that in a 'writing' category, other flashes from 2007 would win over Waterlollies.

"Best animation"
This one's pretty self-explanatory. If there's a particular flash that has amazing animation, it usually becomes a very key factor in winning the "Best movie" category. If there's an animation category, flashes with exceptional animation can be nominated into this category aswell, alleviating the animation-dependence of the more general "Best overall movie" award.

"Best music"
This award is a bit different than the "best musician" award. This one would work much like the "Best original score" category of the oscars. Animators who use audio portal music can get that music nominated for this award if the music is really awesome and works well with their animation. This award would encourage animators to come up with original music or use the audio portal music.

"Best voice acting"
There's some great voice acting talent on newgrounds. I think the flash of the year with the best voice acting performance deserves a tank.

ITT your ideas for other tank award categories you think would be good, and explain why, for both movies and games.

Nice, the colour scheme works, and the shading is very detailed. I also like the swirls on his pants, and his brick shoes.

To improve, work on his chest, its the only part of the anatomy that really doesn't look right to me.

Yeah I have a full time job this summer with night-time hours, so I just try and wake up every morning and get a work out in before heading to work.

I've been neglecting cardio lately, mainly because of a knee injury I got last year playing soccer. Running and plyo are very high-impact, but I can still go on the bike or rowing machine for a decent cardio workout. I don't know how to swim, but swimming is supposed to be excellent cardio as well.

Obviously working out is important for health, and that SHOULD be why you do it, but let's be honest, everyone does it to look good. I'll be honest, I would probably lose all motivation to exercise if I got married.

Nice.

You have a good sense of colour with the blue alien. I like how you've used some greens in there, never be afraid to stray away from the base colour for highlights and shadows. If you're feeling really bold, try doing your shadows with a complemetary colour.

These have a speed-painted look to them, which is fine, but if you want a more realistic look you should definately start playing with the airbrush and smudge tools.

After Virginia Tech, Columbine, etc., School Districts don't take shit from students, even if those students are clearly not a threat to public safety. Despite the fact that the art itself is artistically impressive, I don't think if I were you, I would quite want to delve into that subject matter in such a public way.

Now, as for criticism of the piece itself, it looks like you spent so much time on the character in the foreground, that the background is more of an afterthought, becoming excessively cartoony and unrealistic, in comparison with the cartoony-but-still-grounded red-haired boy. I feel like if you'd spent more time developing the background, the piece as a whole would be more cohesive. You get what I mean?

Anyways, risky stuff, if impressive.

Lol they're not gonna take any shit? What the hell are they gonna do about it? Expel me? That'd be funny.

And yeah, you're right about the laziness of the background, I'm going to justify it in class by saying it's a form of atmospheric perspective to create depth within the piece, and keep focus on the subject. But I'll say it here, I was simply lazy.

That's pretty controversial for a school assignment haha. I like the style and colors. The hair looks great.

Lol yeah I always piss off my art teacher with my subject matter. She's used to it now since its the end of the year, but at the beginning of the year she would get quite upset when i painted pictures of guys getting their heads blown off lol.
