Luckily there's help.

Your character's arms are a bit misproportioned as well, which may or may not have been intentional.
If it was, I think I know where you may have been going with this one.

I saw a similar picture to this years and years ago, but it was nowhere near as well drawn.
Somehow, the joke is so much funnier when the drawing is skilfully and carefully done, despite how old the joke might be...
Hats off to you, mate!

My newest art... Posted November 28th, 2007 in Art

Hello!
This is a drawing I've been working on during my lectures today... It's probably only a couple of hour's work, but its already starting to take shape...
Basically, it's a giant gateway opening up and a sorta daemon thingy walking out.
I think that I might decide to go over this on the computer (something I rarely do.)

What do you guys think? Should I go over it on my computer, or should I just stick to my hand-shaded drawings?
If I go over it on my computer, then I need to think of a colour scheme... What do you think would look good?

Response to: Warhammer 40.000 Crew Posted November 27th, 2007 in Clubs & Crews

I used to be a real whore to my warhammer armies...
I started with marines, and I now have around 4,500 points of them.
Then I did Necrons for a bit (back when they were metal miniatures under the 'raiders' army list)
Then I did chaos, and I now have around 1,000 points of them.
Then I did Tau (They had just been released, and I wanted to try them out) and I have around 1,000 points of 'pure Tau'.
After Tau, I went on to do Kroot Mercenaries (because at that time, I loved sculpting and converting new models... Armies with as much character as the 'mercs open up a lot of conversion opportunities.) I have around 4,000 points of them.
Then I went back to finish my necron army, using the new plastic models range. My necron army now numbers around 1,500 points.
And now, finally, I've got started on my final army for Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse...
An Adeptus Titanicus Legion. (Scratch built. I ain't paying Forgeworld prices...)
I've also got some Dark Eldar from the third-edition starter boxset and some tyranids kicking around somewhere.

I was a really straaaange kid... I used to spend every penny I had on Warhammer.
Now I only really do scratch-sculpts and scratch-builds.

The day I sell all my armies on Ebay is the day I can afford to buy a better car.
Like a ferrari or something.

Zandoid - not half bad! I'd like to know what program you used, though. I always use Blender, but I find that it's particle systems tend not to look quite as 'polished' as that...

JD- Your character has improved drastically since I was last in here. I think that your little changes to his eyes have REALLY payed off.
Nice renders, too.

That's a little fact that most artists neglect.

But that's just me being awkward - as usual. Nice drawing, mate.

Response to: When space is the limit... Posted November 26th, 2007 in Art

I used to have trouble drawing convincing human heads.... Then I devised a technique that's fast, easy, and it creates (reasonably) anatomically correct heads.
Although I wouldn't recommend it for close-ups... It looks pretty bad when drawn big.

Still, I can post it up here or Email it to ya, if you want.

Response to: Warhammer 40,000 art gallery Posted November 26th, 2007 in Art

I've posted this before, but I think that since I spent several months sculpting it, it's worth a repost.

Basically, this model was sculpted for use in Necromunda for a special mission a friend of mine wrote, simply dubbed "bughunt."
According to his mission, it's supposed to be a non-descript "Alien creature", so I took it a step further and made a series of creatures from the 'alien' movies.

They have also made appearances in my Tyranid army.

They are made from a copper wire frame surrounded by green stuff, mounted on a 25mm round base.

I had a whole 400-word rant sitting here, waiting to be put up.
But I thought I should ask a question first.

Explain the artistic significance and metaphors behind any one of these pieces. Explain what each line means, what abstract message you are trying to convey.

If you cannot do this, one rant will land here.

heh heh. Yeah, it's not a bad piece. You've certainly got the sinister face down to a tee... But maybe you might want to try putting him in a slightly more sinister pose? I find that hunching the character's back and placing the "viewpoint" slightly around to one side of the character helps a lot.

Response to: Grim Fucking Reaper Posted November 23rd, 2007 in Art

This Grim Reaper was drawn for Hallow'een party invitations...
I basically drew this picture, and then hand-traced it onto each invitation, which was written onto chemically-aged paper that I had made...
The invitations came out quite well, but that's not quite relevant...
Here's my 'reaper.

Response to: When space is the limit... Posted November 23rd, 2007 in Art

Just drew this up over the last week... All of it in class time, of course.
Drawing is so much more fun when you're in a lecture theatre, for some reason...

Anyway, this one is a character-design drawing of "Tosmenkhis Iteluum." Basically, he's a type of daemon that I made up, called a 'shadow herder'.
In a nutshell, if there are shadows in the room he's in, he can use them to summon shadow-creatures to fight for him. Not to mention that if he steps into a shadow in one area, he can vanish into it, and reappear from another.
He's one of those 'gimmicky' characters, really. But for the most part, he does the whole "star wars emperor" trick, and just manipulates others into fighting on his behalf wherever possible.

When drawing him, I wanted to make it abundantly obvious that he wasn't human, so I gave him very square shoulders, and an impossibly slim body. The light/dark mask and glowing eyes also help to give away the fact that he's not of this world.
When drawing his robes, I originally thought of something light and billowing (as I usually draw) but then I thought "hang on, shadows don't get affected by wind", so I made all the cloth extremely smooth and flat to reflect the smooth, flat nature of shadows.

Response to: How you draw your fingers? Posted November 23rd, 2007 in Art

On the subject of your hands, I would say that your third hand's palm needs a little more definition.... More precisely, when a hand is in that position, there should be a small line to show the crease between thumb and palm which is created when the hand is in this position.
Also, another little detail I noticed was that by moving the thumbnail slightly, you will be able to get the thumb into the 'right position'... Otherwise, it looks a little crooked, with the way that the thumb is slightly bent at the knuckle.
finally, a little crease under the pinkie would be good, just because the skin there tends to do that when you close your finger over on itself.
(I apologise for doing this in MS paint, but it's only a demonstration, and I'm using a university computer with no graphical software right now...)

And on the plus side, your fingers are the right length, they're all in proportion to the palm size and the thumb (which isn't very easy to do when drawing hands in 'poses'.) Nice job.

How you draw your fingers?

The black bit on the left actually looks like a policeman holding a handgun in both hands at arm's length. He's aiming at something off to the right...
I'm sure everyone will see something different, though.

Still, a very nice abstract piece. I found it refreshing to see a piece of abstract art done in greyscale rather than the overused psychadelic colours....

Response to: Logos Posted November 20th, 2007 in Art

I say that you should go with the second drawing...
Mainly because the name is "ghost eye" rather than "slime eye", and the second one seems more fitting. But they're both well drawn.

A very nice drawing.
Your facial anatomy is considerably better than anything I can currently draw, and your drawing of facial expression is quite skillful.
I can't really tell how accurately drawn this is, mainly because I've never seen a picture of you to compare this with, but something just seems a little odd about the bridge of the nose.

Still, it's a very nice piece.

I agree that computer art is still art, but at least by completely ruling out computer art, it ensures that if you want to contribute to this topic, people have to actually walk away from the computer and draw something, rather than just scribble something down in MS paint and then slap it up here.

Plus, as an 'old fashioned' artist, I find it refreshing to be able to look at other people's 'old fashioned art' rather than looking at computer art all the time.

There's nothing wrong with computer art, don't get me wrong, I just enjoy looking at the old-school 'with my own two hands' type of art a little bit more.

Response to: Talking to Americans Posted November 5th, 2007 in Politics

I revise my earlier statement.....

I've changed my mind... this is not someone's alt.
This is an inbred ten-year-old Southern American who has never left his parent's trailer to actually see the world that he thinks he knows so much about, because he's too busy trying to fornicate with his sister.

And just while I'm posting...
America was founded by European settlers.... So by your flawed logic, you owe Europe everything. France liberated you from England, so by your flawed logic you owe them your freedom. (And I don't mean the American definition of 'liberated'. You see, the generally-accepted international meaning of 'liberated' is to set a group, or nation free from an oppressive force. The American definition of 'liberated' is to ass-rape. Hence, why there is a prison in the states called 'camp liberty'.) And let's not forget that most contemporary historians say that had America not intervened in WW2, the war would still have been won by the allies, but the war would have lasted a further three years, and would have caused many more deaths.
And it wasn't the Americans who crushed Hitler. It was the Russians. Hitler decided that he wanted to attack south-west Russia to reclaim the lands lost by the Treaty of Versailles, but the Russian counter-attack crippled his military, leaving him open to the invasion of Normandy Beach on D-day. Just remember the SHEER SIZE of Russia... Russia used National Conscription, so that's a whole lot of soldiers.

And one final note... I studied Philosophy for three years in what you would call 'senior high school'... And there's this thing called 'the just war' argument. One of it's modern application is that the UN uses to decide whether or not a war is justified. The argument dates back to St. Thomas Aquinas, and even further back to the likes of Cicero... Basically, my reason for bringing this up is that according to this (generally revered) code of conduct, America has never taken part in a just war.

...as odd as it sounds...it could just happen.....

Considering your username, I can understand how such a thing seems so plausible.
I daresay it's possible, but people tend not to fire nukes, because firing a nuke means bad news for EVERYONE.
If, for example, I am one nation who doesn't give a damn about war atrocities, and I decide to drop a nuke on say.... Japan or New Zealand. Due to the nuclear fallout, I could expect up to a 15% cancer increase on my native soil, assuming that my country is on the same side of the earth. Even so, the global cancer figure rises every time that nuclear particles are unleashed into the air. The only thing more harmful are free radicals, but I won't elaborate.

Basically, since there are only about two nations dumb enough to fire a nuke in a war, and even fewer who can afford nukes powerful enough to do the job properly, I don't think that a nuclear war is on the horizon.

But who knows - I've been wrong before.

Response to: World War 3 Posted November 5th, 2007 in Politics

Personally, I believe that WW3 is a fairly plausible scenario for our future.
Just before WW1, the world was ruled by two massive superpowers which, as is inevitable in such situations, ended up fighting each other.

Nowadays, we can see a much larger pair of superpowers emerging. With America and it's allies on one side, and the entire middle east on the other.

But personally, I think that something else is likely to happen before this hypothetical war has a chance to begin.
Global warming.
I can see wars happening over global warming. Low-lying nations such as England (but not Scotland, Ireland or Wales), Holland, Denmark, much of Japan and a considerable portion of Greece are all set to become totally submerged in seawater as the ice caps melt.
So I can see a war happening between the low-lying nations and the high-polluting nations. I can even see it as quite plausible that England would go to war against America (shock!) over their pollution. Because we all know that countries like India, China and America don't give a flying pigs arse about global warming. "There is no concrete evidence...."
Well, believe it or not, there is no concrete evidence about anything. It has long been accepted that nothing can ever be proven totally conclusive... Ever since Socrates, who first created the phenomenon that we now call 'scepticism' (or Skepticism, in the states).
Hell, there is no way for me to prove to anyone - even myself that I'm not just some brain in a jar somewhere being fed artificial sensory feeds.... (Think along similar lines as the Matrix.)

Anyway, I've ranted long enough. I'll shut up now.
