But seriously, why do we have the party system at all? Why did we ever need it? Nowadays, it's even worse than console/PC fanboyism, only it can gang-rape you up the ass.
Honestly, my inherent distrust of the competency of any politician aside, people aren't voting for who they think is best anymore. They just see "Democrat" or "Republican" and jizz all over whoever it is, no matter what the candidate's flaws are.
I really think the party system should be disbanded, and every politician should be forced to run without party ties. It would also force them to find less expensive ways to advertise themselves, which could possibly send that possible revenue elsewhere.
I mean, like it or not, we need the government, but if someone votes for a dude (or, nowadays, dudette) just because they're red, or blue, and our freedom of choice is based on peer pressure, what's the point?

TL;DR:
Politicians suck, but we need competent ones.

What professional cartoons do is record the voice first, and then match the animation to it. It's much easier, and leaves room for improvisation.
