I understand concerns about the donations of laptops over basics like food or for infrastructure improvements. However, when you consider the quality of your life, education and technology play a large role and, I think, really go hand-in-hand. I don't think the laptop people are trying to divert charity efforts away from basics, but rather they are trying to initiate a program that can work on yet another realm of improvements for people who have very little. That Newgrounds is promoting this and that so many of you are responding is proof that the techies might be moved enough to donate technology, in the same way that appealing to religious groups might promote donations of food or shelter.
For those of you who can't afford a laptop donation or are opposed to it, I hope you consider finding another way to donate, rather than just trying to dissuade others from doing so. Personally, I'm thinking of donating a laptop (without the 2nd one for myself) in someone else's names as a Christmas gift for them. These are people who "have everything" and are hard to buy for - - why get them something just to get them something? I think they'll really appreciate this.
