I bought Socom II a few weeks ago. Wasn't all that impressed with it. If they put counter-strike on PS2 I'd play that for sure. (Not that I like CS in particular, but it's a good action mod)

Yeah, but what happens when you want to buy a really old CD? Or possibly even a record? Like an old Wham! record? You could spend your whole life looking for it in op-shops and such and so forth. I listen to hundreds of artists, am I supposed to pay $14-$20 for EVERY CD, when there might be only a couple of songs on each CD I want? iTunes r0x! They've got the right idea. So did Mp3.com, but they got shut down for *gasp* being too innovative and forward thinking of the record labels.

And FYI, mp3 compression uses mathematical algorithms to recreate the sound waves, hence why they have a constant bitrate. Windows Audio (*.wma) does the same, but degrades or improves the quality where needed, a high frequency will cause W'sA to use a higher bitrate, and a low frequency (or "audio white-space") will result in a lower or no bitrate. Hence, Windows Audio is the only format that truly cuts out anything inaudible to the human ear. Smaller filesize, but a b1sh for anti-piracy. Just thought you should know :)

I thought if you uploaded a song with the same name, the old song would be deleted and replaced with the new one.

However, it would be nice if you could delete a song outright, maybe a suggestion for Tom?

Did anyone take a look at his email address?

mikejmason@comcast.net

No wonder he's so pissed off with the internet!

And now a commercial <in a 'save-the-children' kinda vioce'>:

"Everyday thousands of people suffer slow internet, living each day only to have the life sucked out of them some more.

This is Mike, and like many others, suffers from a terminal 56K connection from a shitty disease of an ISP; Comcast.

But for just $79 a month you can change all that. For just $79, you can connect Mike up to speedy 256K/64 DSL.

And maybe teach him to spell.

So go on, give the gift of connectivity, Mike's sanity (or what's left of it) depends on you, even if he does happen to be an asswipe."

<Ends with close-up on Mike's bloodshot eyes>

Ingrates!

so how much is amazon paying you to do this??? for fucks sake i'm realy geting pissed off with new grounds, your constantly finding was to milk users for money. When i started comeing here i could put up with the ungodly amounts of ads and i diden't bitch when the ads started to change my home page every time i went on the net. I also never mentioned the constant errors on the fourm that make it very hard to do anything, i diden't say a word about the times i spent trying to get a movie to load movies

but now i'm pissed off and i'm fucking tired of your shit, FUCKING STOP YOU GREEDY ASSFUCK!!!

Maybe Tom should just take Newgrounds offline, that way you wouldn't have to put up with the ads (1-2 a page? I've seen worse!), wouldn't have to reset you're homepage (btw: if it happens everytime you go on the net, maybe it's not just newgrounds? Did you realise there are actually OTHER sites on the net?), the CONSTANT errors (and yet somehow you could still post your slanderous trash ok), or worry about movies loading movies (WTF?)

If you don't like it, YOU make a better site and spend all day running it (and try to survive without a cash inflow).

Yeah I know I like to waffle on, but anyway...

Here's an idea for updating the flash tutorial section; why not have some good animators make a series of flash movie tutorials, in flash! It's a perfect interactive environment for it, imagine Pico teaching you how to do tweens!

Btw: I originally planned on doing this idea myself in the beginning, but I suck at drawing too much, so if anyone does decide to make these tutorials for flash in flash, the least you can do is put my name in the credits eh?

Also looking forward to be able to edit my posts and remove my bad spelling Tom!

Pico 2
A Chrisitan filter
A n00b filter
The next edition of Samurai Asshole

And the ones that say NG needs your help --- those are pretty low.

First of all, maybe you're low for not helping out newgrounds.

Secondly, Pico 2 will come out when it's ready

Thirdly, how the hell is newgrounds supposed to get more popularity if you don't let anyone new join (n00b filter)

And Fourthly, a Christian filter has to be the dumbest idea in this topic,
especially if you're referring to the kind of people who don't need toilet humour, swearing, myriad violence or prejudice to make their flash movies funny or entertaining.

To all the people who keep saying 'put more movies on, put more games on, wha wha wha...', get off ya arses and make em!

Initially I didn't really like the sound of client-side program, as these usually end up needing to be constantly updated and including ad-ware and spy-ware on installation to generate more revenue (no offence NG crew).

However, if it was freeware without ads etc and only needed to be updated occasionally for major changes, it would be a good idea. For a start, it could have it's own cache file, enabling users to save flash content onto their computer, making it available to view anytime without needing to be downloaded again; but, a message of some sort could be sent to NG to keep it's view count increasing. This would HUGELY free up bandwidth.

Also, once a page on the site is viewed, it could be cached also, and upon viewing it again, the client-side program could check on NG automatically to see if that page had changed at all (for example when a page is viewed for the first time, it would be cached along with the date it was made, and upon viewing it a second time, the client-side program need only to request if the creation date had been changed since the cached page's date).

There could be a lot of other things the client-side program could do also, like automatically detecting how fast your computer is and adjusting the default viewing quality of flash movies accordingly.

It could also be set up as a P2P program, but instead of being used to pirate mp3's and the like, it could be used to download chached flash movies from NG from other users, and the NG servers kicking in when there's nobody else with that flash movie in their cache file. Maybe users could get XP for letting others download from their computer (like the Kazaa Peer Points system). This would also reduce strain on the NG servers by an insane amount, decentralising the system a bit more but still giving the NG crew total control over it (by routing the service parameters through the NG servers). This would reduce bandwidth costs I bet (and maybe eliminate the need for popups?).

I second the idea for an art portal, and for a private user-to-user messaging system (like an 'in-house' email service).

I also like the idea of a newsletter, like "Your NG", or "NG Weekly", and getting some high level users to write and mod it (more XP anyone?).

Ahh yes, that takes me back...

Twas the christmas of 19diggity6 when I received my super nes from old saint nick. I had calluscs on my hands by the end of the week from gripping the controller too hard, and they still live on to this very day. Cos y'see, people only saw in 256 colours those days, but they were paletted so you could chose to see any 256 colours you wanted to at a specific point in time. Of course, people couldn't hear more than 8 different sounds at the same time either, so I guess it all balanced out in the end.

The Atari though, that was before my time, however I did so enjoy the nostalgic retro feel of the A-Team game, featuring a Mr T head and an inbuilt 'people with epilepsy' detector (aka the useless flashing bar of colour) recreated by emulator.

Yes, those were the days when all people needed was an idea and a packet of potato crisps to make their dream come true, and the game of the year might only be 1000 code lines long, and a sprite could still be stored in a single kilobyte of ram.

My dear father, lord bless his soul, worked in a company that fixed commodore 64 systems. One day, he brought home a commodore 64 with all the trimmings (tape drive etc). I'll never forget the crazed antics of Wizards and Warlocks (like pac-man, but completely different in every way).

In closing, I would like to warn the younger generation of games that have more graphics than gameplay, do not be fooled! They really have built a gaint ring around earth; it's just hiding out of sight...

WebWasp

My Interactive Media course used this site, but not as much as I do! Simple step by step instructions on how to make basic stuff, and not-so basic stuff, heaps of cool effects and background knowledge!

I reckon they should make these tutorials mandatory; it sure would save a lot of time and headaches for everyone...

Hello fellow dragon : P

My subject is: OK...so I can't draw...

I am fairly skilled at flash (I make websites and know the tricks of the trade), but I can't draw for crap. I tried that, what is it, polykarbon manga tutorial, I couldn't even draw the first circle...

I'll need the storyline (cos hey, I wanna know what it's about!) and a portion of the comic (y'know, like, good guy discovers the evil dude is his father, or, evil dude beats the crap outta the good guy and walks into the dark of night...).

Of course I wouldn't mind if there's a hot chick as the main character either! : )

I also make music, (might not be available on newgrounds for another couple of days until it's screened or whatever), so I'm not completely without artistic talent.

There is NO freakin way anyone can explain how to do action scripting. It needs diagrams, animations, the works; it would take forever to explain it using words. And as a final warning: there is no such thing as a simple game engine in flash!

Easy, download a bunch of desktop themes; not only do they provide you with sound effects, but also with pictures (backgrounds) and icons (ideas for collectable items?).

Here's one I didn't prepare earlier:

I think I know what you're on about...

When you click on a frame and choose which sound you want to play, choose "Stream" from the Sync menu.

However, there are two factors you should be aware of:
1. Flash will not make the sound 'keep up' with the animation, rather the animation 'keeps up' with the sound (by using frame-skips).
2. If you are viewing the animation on a slower computer, it may produce an irritating 'clicking' noise, which is flash frame-skipping.
3. It is always best to make the soundtrack a Stream, and all other noises as Event.

Have fun... : )
