4.07 / 5.00 13,902 Viewsok first off if you buy a car outright for 24k you have some cash. why not invest and save the cash, cut your loss, and find some middle of the ground shit?
I once read on a website that the moment you fool yourself into getting a new car, the moment you are someone's bitch until that car is paid off. so assuming you want to buy a new car let's call in to the problem of car maintenance, insurance, and overall stability of the vehicle.
I have put about 6K in 1 car, 5k in the next, 5.5k in that next one, and about 3.5k in the next (I crashed it and junked it and repaired the previous 5.5k car). do you notice a trend about the 4 vehicles I've owned over the last 7 years? it's less than 20k. So my suggestion to you is go used, don't drop 3k because that's too little but don't drop over 14k unless it's for a car you really want.
No, you want a car that's cheap, a bang for the buck, and logical to you as a good car. Subarus are always sporty. But their recent engines suck. On top of that I wouldn't suggest newer Ford vehicles because Ford just outright sucks, Chevrolet have a shitty track record in general (very 'standard' vehicle company), VW and Volvo blow unless you're European, Nissan and Toyota are alright and you can forget about GMC, Kia, and Mazda because those are just cars built for utility and not for convenience.
Let me swing back to Subarus. While you're bound to find a 99 Outback for like 2 or 3 grand these are likely to be loaded to the brim with "minor problems." Yes, those can be fixed down the road but you probably aren't keen on dealing with that, so I'll make these 2 suggestions to you:
1: Find a Legacy 2.5GT, LSi, or Legacy Outback (these are 96 ~ 99' models), either replace the engine entirely if at high mileage or just simply replace head gaskets if you find one at a lower mileage, rebuild the internal components and maintain the frame with framework specialists - with garage based fees involved on exactly what you want to do (essentially rebuild the vehicle), you will probably spend anywhere from $3 to $5k getting a decent car to work with and $5k in full repairs to restore the vehicle, coupled with a nice sound system.
Many delivery drivers I work with that have worked in garages suggest EJ25D despite the head gasket problems, but assure that these Subaru engines will make it well past 250 - 300k miles. The serious issues they seem to ever have are blown head gaskets which do not cost much to replace if you know a mechanic and a junkyard.
2: If you want sporty and still look cool in a car you didn't have to bring back from the dead, try finding a Subaru with an EJ251 engine. I would advise getting a full comprehensive inspection of the car (not one of those shitty 'state' inspections for a sticker), replace your tires, get an alignment, head gasket replaced, replace the tranny, replace the battery, replace the radiator, replace water pumps and the radiator.
The cost of the car will easily push anywhere from 3K to 10K, the repairs I've suggested can go upwards starting at 1K to 10K for a full comprehensive restoration of the car but trust me you will probably never need to make repairs to the car besides a realignment, stud replacement, shock plug replacement, exhaust leak fix, or just stupid crap like wheel bearings which on any Subaru that uses an EJ251 engine will cost close to null especially if you learn to make the repair yourself.
Look for:
Impreza 2.5RS, 2.5TS 99-02 (US)
Impreza Outback Sport 02-02 (US)
Forester 99-02 (US)
Legacy 00-02 (US)
Outback 00-02 (US)
Baja 03-05 (US)
My current car is the 5.5K car, which has 206K miles. The engine however, blew most of my suggestions out of the water: the EJ251 compared to the J30A1 engine in an Acura CL 3.0 is puuuussssss -- Power ISO: 123 kW (165 hp) @ 5600 RPM [for Subaru] V.S Acura's 3.0 L V6 – 200 hp (150 kW) LOLOLOLOLOL

I'll always discover more games that I think I want, but those are essentially all the games I wanted a SNES for.
Good starter, but my suggestions are Kirby Super Star, FF3/6, and Megaman X2. I know you had some issues between Megaman X and the classic series but try speedrunning the game, it starts to feel a lot like a speedier version of Megaman 3.
I do want to double post a thing about the PAL release of the SNES. The SNES uses the same processor however they both clock differently:
Clock rates (NTSC) Input: 21.47727 MHz
Bus: 3.58 MHz, 2.68 MHz, or 1.79 MHz
Clock rates (PAL) Input: 21.28137 MHz
Bus: 3.55 MHz, 2.66 MHz, or 1.77 MHz
I think this is because the PAL release came first, honestly

Donkey Kong Countries 1 + 2 + 3, Starfox, Earthbound (uncut, unofficial version), Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 2 and 3, TMNT4: Turtles in Time, Super Mario RPG, SMW and SMW + All Stars, Megaman X, Link to the Past, F-Zero, Super Punch Out, Super Mario Kart
I am currently looking into Megaman X2 and Megaman X3 (which I'm not actually a wild fan of), along with trying to secure a copy of Starfox 2 (either as a "cartridge" port or prototype which is HIGHLY unlikely given that I don't have $3k to drop on it).

I would say that the SNES actually has close to 200 "great" games, if we're talking like 'must-play-now' maybe even a few dozen but there are certainly gems on this console. I could go through my collection on which games I'd suggest and which ones I don't. I can tell you right now, the ones that are probably "nope" probably have the stickers on them for $5. :P
also on your discussion about NTSC consoles I strictly adhere to an NTSC collection despite various PAL releases only for Europe + Japan (like FF5 or Seiken Densetsu 3). However if you are having clocking issues on PAL consoles this strikes me as odd, the technology is the same (in theory) but it might have to do with the lockout chip on PAL-based consoles. I'd suggest disabling that (it won't have a drastic effect, it may clock things correctly as I've been told it does on the NES). You can also now play NTSC games as well.

I actually preferred MGS2 over MGS3, because I could not adjust to the idea of an outdoor setting in MGS. I thought it was being too unique and different, so my tone changed. MGS1 is certainly my favorite out of the current MGS series, 2 is a follow-up...
I'll let you know when MGS4 and 5 can interest me for more than a few minutes though

agreed
What people don't realize is that the authentic experience is what makes the game what it is. I'm willing to bet that not everyone has sampled the NES library, which is ALRIGHT. but games such as Metroid, Zeldas 1 & 2 (2 is one I don't like), Punch Out, SMB3 all pushed the technology to really match the aspect of 'gameplay.' for a newer breed yes you will not appreciate it.
But SNES was an improvement upon that. see there's something I'm noticing about this new era of gaming, and that's that gaming experience is nulled or kind of swept with a 'laggy' or otherwise choppy response. 8 bit, 16 bit, and 32 bit cartridge games (specifically speaking) were heavily tested using the technology they were on, so most games were already clocked at their maximum potential.
Did you know the most "expensive" data cartridge utilized 1MB. "Dragon Warrior 4." You are probably thinking, holy shit! Someone actually made a game that small? Back then, it was "Holy shit, someone made a game that took up the entire 1MB cartridge?"
We were about pushing technology so for some developers, graphics were not a serious concern besides what the technology does to create the graphic on screen. That stuff was all programmed in an era when personal computers were just hitting the mainstream, so not everyone was going out to program and produce like people do now with more than dozens of indie games released a WEEK.
My favorite era is the SNES. The graphic driver, the sound driver were incredible for the time. The response is bar none compared to other cartridges of the early day. I think there's a reason for that too. But you can criticize graphics all you want, the SNES as an evolved NES is just the tale of computers specifically built to run licensed games, which is pretty OG if you ask me. If you aren't from that era it's hard to get over the facts:
1: you get no achievements and
2: you have to experience the generational gap. but if you look at the technological breakthrough from the 90s, it's just surprising to see that some games can have you invest hundreds of hours... and for what? so you have some fun! DUH!
my recommendations on both consoles:
- Joe & Mac for the NES, Punch Out!! for the NES, Metroid for the NES, Dr. Mario for the NES, Final Fantasy for the NES
and on the SNES?
- Joe & Mac 2, Super Punch Out!!, Super Metroid, Dr. Mario & Tetris, and Final Fantasy 3.
You'll realize that the NES was the prototype compared to these games, yet both are systematically capable of PRODUCING the same products minus the graphics.
final fantasy 3. i have literally 2 complete game files, 1 with my friend and 1 that's a solo run. i think it's safe to say i have more progress on my solo run and have played less time altogether on it.
i also just got secret of mana and mike tyson's punch out, so the next time i'm going outside might be when the next election comes up.
