I didn't know the sugar industry was lobbying the world health organization so they won't release info about how bad sugar is, but it hardly surprises me. The dairy, meat, tobacco, oil and a lot of other industries have been doing selfish little things like this for years. It's a sad fact that a lot of these huge companies put their personal profits and the short term in front of what is best for people and best for the long term.
It's one of the things that I hate about America- it seems like everytime we find out about something that is bad or unhealthy for us, instead of confronting it, we just ignore it and think it will go away. These companies are to blame, but I think we are to blame as well, for not doing much.
Instead of doing something to make the world a better place for our children- starting alternate research for fuels, something that should have a lot more money and research into it, researching ways to reduce trash instead of half-assing it with this recycle garbage, we sit in our homes and watch TV(which is also very bad for you ;) ) and read Harry Potter and grow fatter and more depressed, trying to pretend that the world isn't becoming dirtier and scarier.
It's pretty hard. Pretty hard not to be cynical. I mean, realistically, a lot of these things(decreasing crime, really changing the transportation model, creating a better world model). These things won't change overnight. And they're not changes that are going to be easy. And since they're not easy, people don't want them to change.
But yeah, we need to change. Even though it means, that, for example if we decrease our sugar intake it would put some people out of jobs. We have to look at the longterm.
I don't have much sugar in my diet, like TOMMY said a few pages back, after the initial shock that comes from coming off of sugar, you'll find other foods actually taste better. I can't stand processed sugars anymore(sodas, candies, etc.).
Anyway, thanks, Tom.

ps- I'd be curious to know, if you read this if you're still doing some sort of flash about food- either now or in the future. I think it's a fine idea, btw, I remember you mentioning it in one of your past posts on the front page.
