Threads like these are a tradition, and traditions are something you should respect because you should have FAITH that the old days of the BBS were GOOD days for the BBS, and not just as filled with idiots as they are today, but also with more vicious and hateful users who occasionally actually shot/stabbed people and/or themselves (livecorpse, regret).

If the old days were bad days, then that would mean that the BBS is still somewhat bad even it has improved, and I refuse to believe there is one single stain on the history of this BBS because I was there for it, thus making me older than you (probably) and therefore you should respect me as your elder and do everything I say exactly as I say it.

When I first glimpsed this site 12 years ago, the BBS was a scary, scatterbrained place of insane concepts and equally insane promises. The extremes in (un)intelligent discourse was great, the talk, REAL randomness, before the word was spoiled.

There's nothing like getting offended at a detailed and personal level (personal for the offended of course) - it puts you on the spot to show your true colors, and NOT some politically correct, e-version of yourself.

While you're enjoying Reaganomics (which is so helpfully included in my Firefox's dictionary) and and the fresh media whore Madonna, please do me a favor and gut the living bejesits out of the Political Correctness movement? And have a smoke and a beer in the arcade for me, will ya bud? And get some Quaaludes from the local college too - I never did get a chance to try that :3

Wow. That came out nice! You can get so much work done when you got another guy you can trust behind the lens, and this piece sure shows it :3 Everyone onscreen looked well motivated, and that's more than half the battle right there.
Nice progression of events - looked like the first few minutes of a good movie (so many cuts).
Also great tight shots, to press the issue.

This will likely pass, since it's a video file, but there's no original content in it. It's all 20th century WWi and WWII footage with 2 or 3 classical music pieces over it. I like the guy who submitted this, but there's only 2 or 3 original stills in it, and no text or voice.

I have a ton of ideas but I need some dough that I can't get to make it even below average quality.

Necessity is the mother of all invention, my friend. Cheap props and effects are secondary to good script writing though. When I wrote skits, I really tried to push the "what I can't do" to the background as much as possible, and focus on what I could do on the cheap. Watch enough B movies from the past century carefully, and shortcuts will avail themselves.

I have 2 books from the mid 20th century which has some excellent optical tricks that can reduce or eliminate the need for fancy videographic software, so I'll scan n post some helpful pics here soon.

Good luck with the script and pre-production. Keep us up on your progress :3

Not bad ;) I noticed the composition of the shots improved in the last quarter of the piece (difficult 'cause the drummer is set so far back). Never easy shooting a band while they're jammin' with only one camera (or am I wrong). Everything was audio synched very well too, and the camera angles (in the beginning) lead the action well.

I dunno - this site actually saps my creativity. Maybe if I took a break from it, I could get something put together script and planning wise. You gotta wear sooo many hats to make a video by yourself, and acting during all of it is the hardest. I used to act for a few cable TV shows and it makes it so much easier doing one thing at a time, as opposed to running the whole show.
Just glad non-linear video editing has finally been made affordable enough. Still boggles my mind that the graphics in Babylon 5 were done on an Amiga running Video Toaster in the early 90's (Tom put up a post about that setup a year or so ago, but my partner backed out of the deal).

I know I should shove a link in here, but anyone ever hear of "public access" (as opposed to "community access" where the local tin plated dictators show what they want) cable TV? In the 80's, a law was passed to make 1 out of every 30 channels, open to the public. Franchisees would make a deal with the area they serve, so a studio or and/or equipment is set up somewhere. Usually 1/2 hour to 2 hour blocks are open to the local public to produce their own stuff; no commercial stuff though, unless you were showing off yoga, martial arts, religion, sports.
If you got cable, it's the channel with the weird stuff on it, and not too sharp lookin' either. Another tell-tale sign: crappy little studio, with carpet on the walls and crappy lighting. Great place to learn production.
It's also called PA-TV, though it's on cable... should be PA-CATV.
Best satire of a PATV show.
Public Access TV.

I caught 3 in one day! Glad I didn't catch this one though - I usually PM the author with the usual reasons why it didn't work: didn't convert fla to swf, and maybe why.....
Sucks to vote zero on 'em otherwise. How can you rate something that you can't see or play? I made that mistake in a review not so long ago, and got a nasty little bot message saying it had been deleted - can't vote zero in a review if there's no content to observe.

I have very little video in a digital format which can be transferred - most of the stuff I did was on U-Matic 3/4", VHS, SVHS and Hi-8 (a lot of it was work-for-hire, so I don;t have it anyway). I tried a Digital 8 camera from Sony to get the stuff digital, but it was a joke and a waste of money.
When YouTube first hit the scene, I was immediately grossed out. Now that Google owns it, I guess have to find another site (like Vimeo) to post what little scraps I do have.

Really hope this club takes off - there are a lot of nice analog tricks and tips I'd love to share. Computers are a fine thing, but the stuff that hits the camera lens and mic is 90% of it.

No, you're absolutely right. They're only passing because of the savewhores and people who don't bother to read tags.

Uuuh - I didn't even notice the tags on that one! Usually when something looks suspect, I check the author for activity. I'd think anyone who worked on code for hours would at least say something other than "Press the spacebar to continue."
Tom's gotta make a bigger fuss about this if anything's going to change with regard to member's voting habits.
The only change I think would help (and there's been more than enough talk on the vote subject) would be a wider vote spread (0-10) or the ability to vote in tenths or quarters, like 2.6 or 2.75. It'd be a nice middle of the road approach.

Technically, this. Aside from the 9 year old Dell POS (piece of shit, not point of sale) which I'm currently using, I have a HP Pavillion w/ a very early Pentium III chip.
I started with a PI 200 Mhz Pro, which thankfully had a real nice MB attached to it - the "Pro" only meant it was a factory overclocked 166, so I got ripped off :( One things for certain, AMD processors kick ass at a lower price, and they've never conned anyone or stolen technology, unlike Intel.

Ok, I can see that the issues posted were resolved, and the other issues were resolved in other posts as well.

You are misunderstanding the reason for your recent stats not showing. Some of your pages might have had a couple of thousand impressions, but the stats won't show until those impressions generate any revenue. Clearly, they haven't.

CPMstar has taken this subject completely out of your hands (my own fault for thinking you had any control or extra data, above and beyond what's on my screen). This company is weird, and was taken over 2 years ago.
About the same time as the placeholder ads went, the lack of ANY info to my ad-rev page started. I'm guessing CPMstar had a different company come in with their own ads and pay scheme (with relation to them, not us).
I'm still trying to figure this out on my own. Since pay-to-click came along, some people have gotten heavily into it, and there are threads about the subject and companies involved. Without any info, I still have the same problem with the same amount of perceived traffic (yeah, I know it's the sign-ups that get the dough, but that looks like all were getting!) Can you get income based on impressions alone?
