I've always been into dub, lounge, chillout and trip-hop kind of musics and I'm trying to go in that kind of direction with my music.

Do y'all have any suggestions for either creating a synthetic ambiance through a technique, or maybe some good drum kit VST that has a bunch of ambiance that I can use? Other ideas are welcome.

Check out something called "Reverb Slap", basically you just send you drums to an aux channel whit a short (0.5-07 seconds) reverb.
You could always check out some transient shapers to give your drums a bit of artificial sustain (put it on the drum master) that way you could get some pretty sick Gated - reverb effects:D

Id say you have to be careful what sounds you use, for example: How would you animate something thats behind you?

I made a film credit for someone's animation school project. I felt good that day. But I digress; would it be ok if I made more videos with NG music as long as I give credit or should I stop and ask permission first next time?

As long as no profit is made and you credit the artist, then you have all the right to do so under the standard Creative commons license used here on Newgrounds, but I do suggest giving the artists a heads up before uploading.

Komplete 8 Elements $49.00

I'm extremely cheap, and at this price im tempted to just throw money away.
But are these sounds worth it? How delicious are the orchestral samples, if at all?

Reaktor is the only plugin you will ever need, for 49$ buck that is awesome.

Iris vs Alchemy, What to buy? Posted November 9th, 2013 in Audio

Hi! So ive been saving up some extra cash and lately ive been really into the idea of sample-based synthesis, some research into the topic narrowed my interest to two plugins: izotopes "Iris" and Camel Audios "Alchemy", while I do own a copy of Alchemy Player (And a few plugin packs) I am etting more and more interested in Izotopes approach to the subject.

I was wondering if anybody owns these plugins and what do you guys think about them?

I know very little of music theory, but the last time I made ska/reggae sounding chords was through trial and error, and I don't remember/know the chord pattern for it...

Usually when i make dub/reggae stuff i Stick to a !-V progression meaning if you are playing in C you get C-G (this works in minor too, but thats more moody-dub like), my way of playing this is to go DOWN to the G instead of UP, give the whole thing a nice cadence, no?
Also, play it using triades on the highest strings (For the precussive sound).

Putting your reverb on an aux channel allows you to route several different channels into it giving you a bit more flexibility during your mixing process.

From what ive seen "Monark" is some type of monosynth that put a lot of weight on getting an analog type of sound.

Also, Battery 4 seems to have had a heacy re-design to fit the Maschine styled-graphics NI seems to push and the deo tracks actually sound pretty damn good.

So about half an hour ago, Native Instruments uploaded this to youtube, any thoughts?

The Highpoint for me has to be the new Battery since ive been using it for some time and it LOOKS like they might do an update to Massvie, other then that they announced "Monark" that is supposedly a new synth.

The two are very different, but equally useful topics. They have practically no overlap in study -- so a little more clarification of what you're after would be useful!

Currently im looking for some books about mixing and mastering, but if you know about any good books about composing then feel free to post them here :)

Production Books? Posted March 1st, 2013 in Audio

Hi, ive been producing for a few years now and i feel like I have made some great progress during that time, but now I feel like I need to step it up and Youtube videos just isnt doing it for me anymore so I have started to browse for books about the subject, but i just dont know wich ones to buy.

So... Any suggestions? I have had my eye on "The Producers Manual" for a while now but the pages Amazon gives out isnt really helping.

Depends on what you want, theres tons of free drum samples out there and I know for a fact that NTS audio gives you rights to use any demos on their site for free (They have pretty much anything on their site), I have to admit that I really ont use samples that often since i pretty much rely on my VSTs to do the work, but you should find something royalty free samples simply by googling them.

Ive been playing around with it since yesterday, and it sounds pertty good, the side.chaining aspect of it is really welcome in my productions, but I find the controls to be a bit... finicky... anyone else having the same thoughts or am I just too much of a n00b to understand the complex nature of distortion?
