Lol. I just love the amount of hypocrisy you can inject into one simple paragraph. You call people who play FPSs competitively clanfags, yet that's exactly the same way that non-competitive Brawl players see you guys.

Smash is an offline community for the most part.

They're cool. Online Wii gamers are just whiny and annoying from my experience. I can't really explain it more than that. If you were ever in a clan you would know what I was talking about.

Also, tourney was last weekend, it went great. Didn't post the link here because I forgot to. I posted it in the chat where there's actually people, though. mikeHAZE is such a chill guy, I got to play him in a MM and friendlies, and he taught me a lot. :D I had to leave at about 9:30, but I was still in the bracket, so I had to settle for 13th out of 61. Not bad still.

Knux, you're an elitist and every time I see you you're being apprehensive and/or a total dick to someone. Fuck off.

Response to: Super Smash Brothers Crew (Ssbc) Posted July 23rd, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

Knux thinking that I'm wrong instead of him...shocking.

Conduit is a horrible game because the fanbase for it is basically the whiny fucks called the competitive Wii gamers. Clanfags and the sort.

I'm going to post the link to my live stream this Saturday (mikeHAZE in attendance), so check back often for the stream. I'll also be posting it everywhere on All is Brawl, Smashboards, and the chat.

Yes, the SSBC is making a Youtube account and a combo video in the near future!

The first step, of course, is to make the actual Youtube account. A few of us in the chat have narrowed the names down to:

NewgroundsSmash
SmashNewgrounds
NGSmashCrew

Everyone on this thread, please vote on your favorite.

No, post your stuff here. We rarely discuss anything in this thread anymore, compared to everything we talk about in the chat.

Okay, I'll do that.

I didn't make it for doubles, the only way I could get a ride to the venue was to work with my dad (he's a mover) until about 1 PM, and by the time I got there, doubles were at winner's and loser's finals. Here's a quick summary of the day.

Lost to MenoUnderwater (Peach)
Beat some random (IDK)
Beat a pretty good Metaknight (<<<<<)
Beat an extremely campy random (Lucario, Link)
Beat a middle of the road Brawl regular (ROB)
Beat another pretty good Metaknight (<<<<<)
Barely lost to Timotee (Ness / Wario)

Game 3 vs. Tim = Both of us at 156% on our last stocks, I accidentally down smash with Snake instead of mortarslide and he gets me with a Wario ftilt.

Meno ended up getting 5th and Tim ended up getting 3rd. I ended up getting 7th out of 49. Next tournament is NVGA SuperCon on July 24th. Expecting about 60-70 attendees from all over the southwest.

Response to: Super Smash Brothers Crew (Ssbc) Posted June 6th, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

There was no livestream today until grand finals, pretty big failure on that level. Tourney was awesome though, 49 people showed up for Brawl. Go to the chat if you want to know the details / my placing.

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.ph p?t=235525 this is for AzN. I was talking with Jingo in the chat and he says he's going to be there. A little wonky, but a fun tourney anyway.

SBR-B Official Tier List V3

S: Meta Knight, Snake, Wario, Falco, Diddy Kong, King Dedede
A: Marth, Mr. Game & Watch, Pikachu, Olimar, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., Kirby
B: Lucario, Zero Suit Samus, Toon Link, Pit, Donkey Kong
C: Peach, Luigi, Fox, Wolf, Sonic, Sheik
D: Bowser, Zelda, Pokémon Trainer, Ike
E: Lucas, Mario, Ness, Yoshi, Samus
F: Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Link, Ganondorf

Thoughts:
1, I'm now an official tier whore
2. Metaknight is no longer SS
3. Did Donkey Kong go up...?
4. Falcon is now 3rd worst in the game, huzzah

Response to: Super Smash Brothers Crew (Ssbc) Posted June 2nd, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

I hate how the tier list has morphed from "list that shows which characters have the most potential" to "which character has the most representation in tourney play"

But that's how it is, so...whatever. I'm anxious to see the results.

Wario, Diddy, Pikachu, ICs, ZSS, Toon Link, Luigi, Sheik, Yoshi, and Sonic are moving up, and Peach / Olimar could go either up or down.

Will everyone watch my tourney's live stream this weekend and listen to me commentate? :3

Response to: Official E3 2009 Discussion Thread Posted June 2nd, 2009 in Video Games

From what I remember about the Microsoft conference:

- Halo: ODST
- MGS: Rising
- Gears of War
- Splinter Cell
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Modern Warfare 2
- Forza 3
- Tony Hawk...?

A lot of FPS action, respectable but a little old.

Nintendo:
- New Super Mario Bros Wii
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Metroid: Other M
- Golden Sun DS
- Mario + Luigi 3
- Spirit Tracks (Not really new)
- The Conduit
- Resident Evil
- Dead Space

Idk, that's all I remember for both. That covers most of it though. Nintendo has a bit more variety when it comes to genres, but Microsoft has a lot more for the "hardcore gamer". Honestly, The Conduit should be one of the most exciting things for the Wii, since it's shaping up to be the first quality online shooter for the Wii.

I'm kind of anticipating MGS for the PS3, since the picture of Big Boss on the Konami teaser site isn't explained yet. Then we can speculate.

A: Wrong. Mew2King, the undisputed best Brawl player, and arguably the best Melee player in his prime, doesn't stay back and let the opponent make the first move. He plays Brawl with a fast pace, and its a breath of fresh air.
He spaces and waits patiently when he plays against a camping Snake or any other camper. And he is using Meta-Knight, who goes through all types of camping.

Absolutely wrong. Mew2King has the best pressure in the game, he goes after camping Snakes and puts them in the air before you can yell "RAPE!". I THINK I'm referencing the M2K vs. Ally grand finals set at CoT4, not sure if it's those videos or not.

Same with NinjaLink, Boss, Reflex, Fiction, and many other top level players.
Fiction air camps with Wario a lot. Have you ever seen DSF vs NinjaLink? Snake/King Dedede vs ROB. It was a mighty campfest. Reflex and Boss however are geniuses with their move strings.

Last time I checked, Wario can't throw garlic at people. Wario can't stay in one place to win. He can't camp and make a Falco approach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBtRdc_Kl 08

Have you seen NinjaLink play his ROB anywhere besides against DSF, who never leaves the ground with Snake? No? Thought so.

You're thinking of the low-level players who think that camping's the best. Althought a campy playstyle can get you to a certain point, there's a cutoff point where people just figure you out and fuck you up.
Not if you camp correctly. Like Falco SHDLing correctly. That shuts down alot of approach options for many characters. AfroThundah's Snake has incredible camping, and he combos with the explosives. Snake's best strategy against King Dedede, a chaingrabber, is to camp hardcore, or else he will get owned by easy chaingrabs.

Nah. I don't do any of those things, and Enjoi approaches. There were campers in Melee, and there's campers in Brawl. Not everyone does that.

Fast-paced, frantic playing like the pros mentioned above yield no real boundaries because there's so many more ways to get better.
Playing Fox or Sheik doesn't guarantee unlimited potential, unless you're talking about Meta-Knight.
Also, there is fast-paced camping.

Watch NinjaLink. He makes low tier players proud.

It's all about playstyle. If you think camping is what Brawl's about, then you're a camper. Follow people off the stage for once and you'll see that Brawl's pretty fun.

I'll go dig up the entrants list...

Well, two main reasons. 1. To debate counterpicks and whittle them down only to the stages we like / need. Par example, GZ likes Pirate Ship for his Ike, so he wants that stage to be selectable from the CP list.

2. To have a bit of customization. And, to let every entrant have their own little advantage. It's either we start with only neutrals (Battlefield, FD, Smashville, Yoshi's is debatable), and each member gets one or two CPs added to the list, or we start off with the standard rule set, and mix and match banned and counterpick stages as we please.

It's up to the crew.

Response to: Super Smash Brothers Crew (Ssbc) Posted May 2nd, 2009 in Clubs & Crews

I think we need to develop our own ruleset and counterpick list for the Spring Tourney.

My idea was that everyone in the crew suggest a rational counterpick (with reasoning) to be quickly agreed upon and played in the CP list for the tourney. Like:

"I want Hanenbow because there's no music"

"Denied, bish."

__________

"I want Lylat Cruise because it's a n-counterpick in most people's minds, has no obstacles or transformations, and is a good choice for counterpicking spacies."

"ACCEPTED!"

Response to: Super Smash Bros. Brawl - "others" Posted May 2nd, 2009 in Video Games

I jump around everywhere in this post. I can't structure my words as well as I see them in my head.

Neither Melee nor Brawl had character balance in mind when they were made. Neither had competitive play in the forefront. Neither was supposed to appeal to 1v1 play, it was made to appeal to 4 person FFAs with items and every stage being legit.

Melee took over a year to get any kind of scene going. When East Coast and West Coast were developing a metagame, WC was using items for a while. When it developed, it was slow since people were inexperienced with this kind of engine. They were familiar with Soul Calibur, Street Fighter, etc. After another two years things began to pick up, tiers were becoming painfully clear, top players and areas were starting to show, and the metagame peaked when it was picked up by MLG. Melee had a 7 year lifespan because of its slow growth in popularity over the years. A cult classic in the fighting community.

Brawl developed a scene within a month of its release, partially because of all the old Melee players dedicating themselves to the new game. East Coast and West Coast developed side by side. While the mechanics in Brawl were considered more floaty, it was still very similar to Melee, seeing as both came from HAL and Nintendo. It's only been about a year and two months into Brawl's metagame, and it's grown so rapidly it's not even funny. There's now two tier lists in place, top players are obvious, any tournament below 16 attendees is a bust, there's a 700+ planned attendee tournament going in in Northern California this July (Melee and Brawl), Smash took off because of Brawl's popularity growth. And although people don't want to admit it, Wifi is one of the most important parts of the game. It, by itself, has brought many new competitive players to the game, amazing or not (Ally is an example of a Wifi warrior, I'm an example of a wifi scrub). Brawl's more popular after a year then Melee was in its 7 years.

Q: "But Underload, Brawl is just spacing and camping and projectile spam!"
A: Wrong. Mew2King, the undisputed best Brawl player, and arguably the best Melee player in his prime, doesn't stay back and let the opponent make the first move. If you think camping is what Brawl's about, then you're a camper. Follow people off the stage for once and you'll see that Brawl's pretty fun.

Q: Tierz?!
A: Ya. Every successful fighting game has had tiers. Top tiers have been more popular in competitive play, but, in history, low tiers rise up from the bottom and fuck some Metaknights and Snakes up (see: Boss and NinjaLink). Tiers are just a byproduct of a popular game.

That's all I got >.>

Larry would rape Enjoi and then some. Both Larry and Fiction would have gone to WHOBO with DSF if it weren't Easter weekend. THEN SoCal would've been legitimately beaten by M2K.

Turns out I DID go to the tourney I spammed about earlier today, and I got fucked up by a Dedede in my loser's bracket match. 1-1, even until the 3rd stock, then I just kinda played "eh" and he lit me up. Mid 1 stock, I got raaaaaaped. The guy went on to get top 4 or something.

Anyhoo, pretty identical to my last tourney: lose round 1 winner's match, beat first opponent in loser's, then barely lose in 3rd round. I screwed up on my only goal of getting Top 8, I got 9th out of 20.

Played about 4 hours of friendlies with a few people afterward, did really well. A Game + Watch won the tourney, and I can see why, I played him in friendlies before the tourney and got raped pretty hard. A guy named Timotee, who's really good, got 2nd with his ownage Ness and Wario.

Oh, and I played my first money match and my first set in Melee ^.^ Barely lost the $1 MM and got dominated in Melee.
