Technically no, not yet... :( That would require a background to sing on! :D But I can do some more songs if anyone's interested. And probably will even if no-one is. I'll see to the hounds, though... ;p

Frigging long time no see. I've grown to be a pretty decent metalhead due to joining this club looong time ago... Nice to see it's still here. Anyone remember me? I've been singing as usual. Here's a clip of a cover I made: http://kiihdytin.net/tuovila/Music/Recor dings/Juho%20Tuovila%20-%20Face%20of%20M elinda.mp3 It's Opeth. Is Lykaki still posting here?

Lykaki wishes to make the following announcement:

"Nsbm is not only different because of ideas. It also includes sometimes the following elements: it is more spontaneous, less technical, having had friction with RAC and punk-ish music. It also often include traditional elements, or absorbs them. Furthermore it is made with genuine rage and hatred, due to the political extremism of its makers, and the attention whore rage of for example Slipknot."

So just because she likes NSBM doesn't mean she's a nazi.

And just to contribute something too, I've still been training my growling but it still fails to keep steady and strong. Anyone here yet experienced on doing both growling and clean singing with pride?

Also, my dream band...hmm...

Not much variety here, but I'd like to see it happen. :P

Long time since I last posted, I doubt anyone noticed anyway...

Doesn't matter, what does is I bought yet another Opeth album, Still Life. In addition to that I now have My Arms Your Hearse, Blackwater Park and Damnation. I love all the albums a lot and will surely get each one at some point.

I also started singing in a new group some time ago. Mostly jamming and such but the guitarist is pretty great. He likes COB- kind of fast-paced stuff and has lots of power metal feel in his own riffs. I think this might be a good chance to train my lyrical and vocal creativity. Our first song will have a classic heavy metal/power metal sound to it. Still, I'm trying to avoid writing too cheesy lyrics.... :P

Someone was talking about Tony Kakko's voice. Yes, it's magnificent! I saw them live a while ago and it's hard to believe it wasn't all just playback. I'm training hard to become just half as great(actually, even better, but don't tell anyone)...

I'm going to take some voice and singing lessons if I can afford them. It's crucial to learn the right techique if you want to make it through a long show with your voice still usable the next day. I'm in a good start, I must say. :) With my obsession over Opeth lately, I've acquired the taste for harsh vocals as well, but I still keep my clean voice as the main objective here.

Does anyone have experience about doing DM growling and HONESTLY being able to say they can still sing clean and clear? I'd like to hear some stories from all the Metal Hell vocalists, since that specific field of songwriting is usually just passed by in all coversations. O.O

Any Flash- capable members here?
Im very flash capable. But a opeth video is a crazy idea. WAAAAY to long man. Even if you finished it, it would be to large to upload to NG ;). Unless maybe you completely avoided anything that will boost the file size such as gradients, good quality audio, lots of symbols, etc. But it would be nearly impossible to make a flash movie avoiding all 3 of those. :)
Oh and i forgot to mention that even if you did manage to avoid anything that would boost the filesize to were you cant upload...You would hit flashes little wall called the 'frame limit'.
Thats assuming you ran the flash at a decent speed of 24-30 fps. Judging by how long the average opeth song is, id say that you would hit the limit about half way through the flash.

I'm aware of those problems, but if the flash is too big in filesize to fit through the portal, you can always send it by e-mail and ask if they will upload it manually. This is the case with several collaborations as well, since they tend to boost up on the filesize.
The frame limit has no problem with Ghost of Perdition as on 24fps it only takes up the pitiful 15,000-something frames. :)

In that case I will probably take on the task myself but that will mean loads of work and probably lower quality since my knowledge and technique could always be better. I don't have a drawing tablet, which I'd love to get, so I'll probably use some kind of weird style to get through the long, silent parts... stick figures, anyone?!

:D Nah, seriously, these things tend to take a long time so don't bother coming after it anytime soon. :P I have so much to learn about organizing myself in Flash to make the working process slide smoothly... Still, any advise will be good. Try sending me a private message ( I hope that system works, never tried) if you get any ideas or want to help.

Thanks anyways, you already made some difference.

Attention Metal Hellers!

Any Flash- capable members here? I'm concidering to start working on an Opeth- video. It would be a horrorstory telling the stroryline of one of their songs. Because of the length of their songs and my attemt to make the flash good, I'm eager to know if there are any fans of the band that would like to assist me in my quest for the daily top-5! Some basic skills would be necessary and good skills WILL be a plus, as will good working morale and imagination.

Basically I'm seeking creative people who can hold onto deals and LIKE OPETH. :)

The song would be one with a good story, I'm thinking of Ghost Of Perdition, I love that one.

If no-one's interested I might do it all by myself, but the workload would take a long time to go through...

Your thoughts...?
(NOT your's TotallySpies, you don't like Opeth, I know it already! :P )

I was wondering the same thing a while ago, but I was glad to hear she's alive, at least. :)

As for me, I was in Sonata Arctica's tour finale concert last night and it was awesome! It was held in Kemi, the band's hometown and the town I was born in. There were about 3000 people there but I was lucky enough to get to the 2nd row! They played for two hours and ended with fireworks in the sky. In my opinion, a band returning from a 160-gig world tour that lasted for 2 years deserves some fireworks. ;) I never knew Sonata's such a live performer!

Well, it took me the whole week to find a shop that sold records from OPETH! And the weather doesn't allow too much clothing anyhow, so the actual "scene" was pretty well hidden. It was all a chaos because of a teenage football competition that was held there at the same time as my visit... well, my visit wasn't "held"... anyhow... I've seen rural towns more metal than Gothenburg, but maybe I wasn't really looking from the real places... It remains a mystery...

Just got back from Gothenburg, and from a true metalhead's view I must've wasted the whole 1½ weeks I spent there. I didn't go to a single concert nor did I buy any evil knives to cut myself with...

I, however, bought the albums "My Arms, Your Hearse" and "Blackwater Park" by Opeth, "Sonic Firestorm" by DragonForce and "Images And Words" by Dream Theater. So far I've been deeply satisfied with my purchases.

Yep, that's their experimental album, the sister record to All-Deathy-Deliverance.

If I just could learn to perform the vocals of Ghost of Perdition without hurting my voice... :'(
I can do it :P. Still Ghost of Perdition is Opeth at their least best. Blackwater Park, Still Life and Morningrise you should check out :D.

I didn't enjoy Blackwater Park nearly as much as Ghost of Perdition... I might be the story or just the melody... Still, I really liked BP though... it's about on the same level as Black Rose Immortal on my scale.

Oh, and by the way, if someone has the chance of seeing either of the bands live, then go for it! They're great!!! (but I'm sure most of us knew that already... :P )
I really wanna see Dream Theater live. And as soon as they annouce a UK tour I'm getting tickets.
And I'm seeing Opeth in November :D... again. I saw them at Download and they were brilliant. Akerfeldts voice live blew me away. It was like an angel singing.... death metal :P.

I never had the chance of seeing Opeth although they had several shows in Finland... :'(
My sadistic friend sent me an SMS from the show, though... *I'm gonna get him someday*
As for Dream Theater, never have and probably never will unless there's a miracle. Still, I know exactly how good they both are from the videos I've seen.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. I don't really like listening to In Flames but Opeth IS worth checking out. As long as it's metal it's worth trying in this club. Then again, it's all up to your personas preferences. I love Opeth, Dream Theater and DragonForce, but I don't go telling people what to NOT listen to.

Long time no post... since my comp's all screwed up! >.<

Still, I've been listening to Opeth and Dream Theater(even at the moment, Octavarium is playing) and I even bought the Damnation-album from Opeth some time ago. Now I'm in Göteborg in hunt for some of their other stuff, as well as some Dream Theater.

I just can't get enough of Octavarium, the song. Are there any other people here who can say they've listened it six times in a row?! I guess the reason I can bear it constantly is because I sing it along every second time I hear it. :D However, that's not the case with Opeth... If I just could learn to perform the vocals of Ghost of Perdition without hurting my voice... :'( Oh well, a man can dream... theater...

I've been listening to Opeth now for way too long... the same songs over and over and over again. The past month has passed almost entirely while listening to Black Rose Immortal, Blackwater Park, Bleak, Ghost of Perdition, Harvest and Windowpane... time after time, repeating... And what's even worse, I've developed a fancy to their Death Metal vocals... My world's getting twisted! And I can't get enough of those guitars... SOMEBODY KILL ME! NO WAIT, THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT ME TO SAY...!

My nickname... They call me... The Lonely Rider...far away from home... nah, just pulling your leg there.

-Tuovila....I guess that's my name and stuff... for some reason people like to use it... don't know why exactly...

-JM... the combination of my first names' initials.

-Jeesus (yep, that's the correct spelling in Finland) This started when I questioned keeping the picture of crucified Jesus up even during Christmas in churches... I'm very sceptical of all religions, so they used to bully me with that name. No-one really uses that one anymore. And they'd better not to, either! :P

-That stupid know-it-all-asshole-who-has-to-correct-me-

Topic: Disturbed christian rock band???

Posted: 06/07/06 02:10 AM

Forum: General

Sorry for reviving such an old thread, but no, Disturbed is not a christian band in any way. And yes, the singer, David Draiman, is a jew, but he rebelled agains all forms of organized religions from an early age. None of the bandmembers follow a religion of any sort actively. The album Believe was meant to symbolize the strength of mind, and tell people to think it through before blindly following others. Still, they say everyone should have something to believe in, because that belief is the driving force in live. It's just that it doesn't have to be a religion for you to believe in. You can believe in yourself, for example. Prayer signifies that no matter what the course of life or gods or anything throws at you, you can still find the strength to stand up against it. It's a very good song in my opinion!

Again, sorry for bringing this old stuff up again, but this really seemed to require some straightening up. :)

Okay... so there it was... the 500,000th thread... And? What is left but this empy, cold and bitter feeling, this icy wind that chills our souls...? Is there any way of getting back on with our lives after such a tragedy? In times like these we should remember the words of the Great One: "I may be dead soon but that doesn't make apples blue!" It means we should grab onto what we can and make the most of our lives, even after so many years have passed...

Seeing the sky now, all filled with clouds, makes one think: "Can this really be all?Is there more to life than this?" Well, my friend, the answer is: "No. So go and make the most of it today!"

I hope I managed to help some of the tormenented souls feeling haunted by the fact of 500,000 threads, I sure feel better after opening up.

Don't give up on people!
