Looking for work [unpaid] Posted August 5th, 2014 in Collaboration

I'm a animator looking for uncommitted work and mainly small projects(so no 'web series').

So I'll animate/help your toon, but there are things I'm not going to do- Obviously I'm not going to write, voice act, or STORYBOARD(you must find someone would could).
I'll come up with things like drawing the backgrounds, animating, character concepts if need be.

I would like to have the project already organized when you pm me, so most of the voice acting is ready, storyboard is being worked on, ect ect.

If you are an animator and just need someone to do in betweens, I can also do those pretty good... I guess.

Note: If you pm me expecting me to immediately work on your project because you have everything ready; don't, I really would like to look at the stuff you already have. If I decline your offer, don't whine.

It really matters on your budget. we need to think about our selfs before picking animations that are 3 min and only give 200 bucks.

But if you had a set style(very basic, used puppets, ect. ect. All cheap)

I would go around about 450$

I'm aware of that you credited ed's world... but why?
2. The colors
the colors are super boring/bad and I feel you pulled them off of flashes default pallets.
3. Line art
The line art was terribly inconsistent and lacked any animation really. Meaning the only thing you actually animated were the mouths. I counted around 8 unique frames (excluding tweens and mouths)
4. anatomy of the characters
This was really off and it bothered me a bit.
5. Backgrounds
To basic for my liking, I disliked the castle- because i felt like you copied a child story book of castle.
To be honest I hardly even used tweening, I used allot of frame by frame, especially on the head turn. However thank you for your critique.

Well, the zoom on 0:03(tween), the strange motion at 0:07(tween) the orc at 0:17(tween and blur), head turn at 0:17(frame by frame), at 0:18 zoom(tween), 0:19 zoom(tween), at 0:25 for the orc(tween).

the majority is tweens, but this is beside the face(which I don't find an issue) there isn't more than 3 seconds of frame by frame(again, ignoring the face). It's just pictures with face movements, zooms and tweens.

LIke, you should always tell stories with body language not 'I M A robot, standing perfectly still, you can tell what I'm doing because I'm saying it'

It's just boring to watch.

1. when the orc flies in there is a few frames where you can see the cut from his hips.
2. when the orc was stabbed and screaming.. that mouth was really bad.
3. at 0:05, there is a tiny sword on his hips(That outline is WAY off compared to the rest of his body.
4. I feel you cheated to much with tweens, and lacks any true animation.

In flash:
Create a layer, make a rectangle the size of your stage.
Fill in the stage with a radiant : Like Dark:Normal:Dark
Convert it to a symbol(movie Clip)
In the symbol draw circles(More longer than wide)
:You may tween the circles going what ever way you want for a motion like thing...
go out of the symbol and add some filters to that shit
Add a blur : Blur X:10/ Blur Y:50 (play around to your liking)

and you are done and it should look around like this

Yea, Like I said. Working on animations is not impossible it's just complicated in parts where is doesn't need to be complicated, I mean each has there own pros and cons but to me Using AE is the most limited.

You just prepare everything in photoshop, and make one layer a "time remapping " whatever and I can easily move on which sides to use and such

Yea, and there the issue. You need to use Photoshop(or something similar) to prepare the puppet. Because lets say you are about half way done the animation- and you relised one hand gesture is missing a finger for every previous frame. You would need to readjust the puppet in Photoshop(or whatever you prefer) go back to the animation and need to manually reapply some things. I just little things that become tedious that doesn't really need to be. Not sure I tried After effects puppets(They're difficult- but not impossible)

After effects can be used to create animations, but its better suited for composting and visual effects. I'll create my animation in flash, export it into video which I bring into after effects. I then use after effects to do lighting and tons of other visual effects.
huh. I thought that lighting trick in after effects only works for 3D layers.
and ive seen hishedotcom and 2snacks use after effects for animations .-. I thought maybe it is a great tool to make your character all puppet like and easy to animate

Rigging a character is pretty difficult(as well as animating it) there is also some draw backs with using some effects while using a puppet.
So, really it's much easier to animate in another program export the character(Puppet or not a puppet) and import it to AE- and then import the rest(Audio, background ect).

Oi oi
I have a few issues... Nit picking if you will.

When the song goes 'Ass to face' or something, you have few to many camera angles hard to follow along.

Another when she stands up in the bar, her thighs were reaching over the counter which makes her really tall or midget bar.

that is it, so these can EASILY be ignored since they are not really breaking the animation.

Response to: The Pokemon Collab. Posted May 21st, 2014 in Collaboration

I'd be interested if you had a better approach- Like.

So not only you draw the Pokemon you also make a pokedex entry but make it a obscure/morbid/accurate ect to fit with the style or something.

And it could be 'According to Pokay-dAx: Collab'

Something like that.

(I had only experienced working in projects where the audio is given to me and now that I'm finally working on my project, I'm really sure how to approach it..

My main issue working with audio is timing and spacing. To me it's trail and error. But nothing but errors.

Example: I'm not animating this... I really don't care if you think this is awful writing or dumb.
Matt: Watch your step!
Mott: Whut...
Mott trips, and then begins to look at matt with a face of betrayal. Mott than dies.
Matt cries
Matt: long... Long live the king.
The thing I have trouble with is the line 'wut', 'long live the king' and everything in between. Everything I try seems natural and very robotic. Unrealistic sound cues ect

My way is this:
Using audacity try placing them as best as I could without using effects(because that makes it EVEN WORSE) till I get a result. I go back in to the animation program to fix what I could(story board) but the audio always throws me off?

So what are your ways going about this as PAINLESSLY as possible.
Ive been there. I was working on a series 3 years ago and I had friends over to do the V.O. that I couldn't do myself. Lets just say it didnt turn out so well and I decided to squash the project. I realized that it wasnt the equipment or my editing... It was a combination of the lack of talent from the actors and my own writing that made it sound lifeless and robotic. They weren't trained actors so looking back, I dont know why I expected so much from them. Maybe its your actors, or maybe its your writing or lack of direction to your voice actors. I don't know, but something to think about.

I think I found my issue, however flash has never crashed so hard. But I guess its pretty worth it in the end.
What I have been doing is (A man walks from a to b and on b he says the line "Good", but that walk would be cut so short the voices would be next to each other leaving no space for action.) I found out it's MUCH better to not take the script as a bible and kind of build from it. And doing that is by using each line within flash and not use audacity to guess the time and spacing. (I was guessing, making it really robotic, not saying I'm a robot.)

Response to: Working with audio Posted May 18th, 2014 in Animation

At 5/18/14 01:48 AM, Celshaded wrote: I'm not exactly sure what it is that you're asking, but I'll try and help since I use Audacity too;

First, if you can help it you always want to be using wav files instead of mp3 files. I don't know if you're the one doing the recording but you can just break the lines up into depending on how you want your pauses. So for example if you were going to have someone sneeze, "ahh...ahhh.......ACHOO!", the ahh's would be one file, and then the ACHOO would be another file.

Also, make sure that you have your audio publish settings in Flash set to "mp3" and whatever the highest bitrate is (I forget what it is) and uncheck the 'convert to mono'.

Also, when you import your sounds to the timeline, go to properties and set them to "stream" so you can scrub them in the timeline and they don't keep playing forever.

Hope this helps you out.

So you import each line singularly? Does that help, doesn't flash crash more frequent?
Because Ive been trying to do every line at once.

*I'm trying to say, how do people do the time and spacing. because lets say foot steps at like... 120bpm
and in my story board I have a person walking from one side of the canvas to the other side. But the person can't make A to be because of the time. so in order to make that work I would need to go back in audacity and re-edit the whole sound file or and one step (FX) at a time which seems pretty difficult and the time line would be clutter. Or is there a simpler way of doing this?

(what you said in Audacity did very much help thanks.)
