perfect practice makes perfect. you gotta know the right things to practice and make sure your practice is constructive!

this is lookin really sweet, pspmad. you got awesome details into this piece and i instantly recognized this as snake. sometimes when you get caught up in the details tho, you lose sight of the big picture. like was already pointed out, the proportions on the legs are a little long. also, compare both the arms you drew. the left one (snake's right arm) is a lot longer than the other.

so maybe next time before going into work out the details, make a super rough sketch and take a step back. look to see that the arms and legs and everything works spacially and proportionately. it'll make your stuff just all that more badass and solid!

can't wait for your next drawing!

I love Ren and Stimpy, along with all the stuff those guys were influenced by (Popeye, Looney Tunes, etc.). That's a cool compliment man, thanks.

Thanks BlinkVold121. Hopefully the cartoons will create new ones!

Yeah Assbreaker, your rock! You do awesome monsters!

I wanna see you do the swamp thing or the creature from the black lagoon. Those monsters are my favorite

that turned out awesome. your texturing looks real good.

hey man, what about making other furniture to put in the room? and then making the room by putting it all together. by the time you do that stuff, you'll be good enough to light stuff and then you can practice that.

Thanks hippl5, you're right. If I'm feeling ambitious I think I'll go back and rework that. I kinda like the way it looks right now, but if it looks better I'm gonna go with your suggestion! I appreciate your feedback, dude

Vato: Thanks. Here's a screenshot from the short. I'm still tweaking some stuff while I composite. But it's pretty much animated. The fun part is next: sound!

YUP! Tystarr got it right! It's Baby Huey, made by the old Terry-Toons studio.

I loved him because he was pretty much retarded without the cartoonists expressedly saying that he was.

Myridon, you're thinking of Egghead probably who had similar colors but different proportions. Foghorn wanted to hit on Eggheads mom, but Egghead was always in the way. Another great cartoon tho, maybe I'll do Foghorn and that dog next.

Anybody wanna see any specific classic cartoons?

Figured I'd make a single thread with all my crap. Anyway, here's a character card I painted for this film that I just composited. Now I just gotta do sound! Woohoo!

Trying to get a classic cartoon feel. BG is hand painted, character and letters are digital. I'll post some screen grabs and stuff when I get the chance.

Willobean: Thanks, man! Great ink! You know how to wrap form around volumes. You got some nice thicks to thins going on too! I wish I could ink my cartoon at this quality, but alas. I'm only one man. You rock!

PrinceFlea: YES! Ultimately compliment. My favorite cartoons are the old Tex Avery cartoons and stuff from the 40's! I don't hold a candle to them, tho.

SULKINGking: He's not a miner, more of a crazy old hermit. Maybe I'll post some of my color comps to show you more.

Krayon: The original Grimm Tales are BRUTAL! Kids getting eaten and all that good stuff. Grimm's Fairy Tales would be a good idea. I've got a bunch of other film ideas in the can, but that's definitely tempting. I love all the old Disney fairy tale movies that the Nine Old Men animated!

Fhfhfh: What movie?!

Umree, MrSmiley66, Mikev007: Thanks dudes! Glad you guys like it and I'll try to crank out some more stuff that I can show. Don't want to give away too much, and it probably won't get released for a while until me and my pals release our website.

Response to: crative advice anyone? Posted August 4th, 2008 in Art

Hey clarkitupp!

I like this character and think you should keep working on him!

I think people's problem with the spikey side of the hair is that it's kinda flat. If you think about your drawings in terms of simple shapes in space, you'll have some more solid drawings.

If you want to look into construction, check out Preston Blair:

AWESOME MS Paint drawing! Dude, do you have anything that you've done on paper?

Response to: Something I'm workin' on Posted August 1st, 2008 in Art

Hey PieLover! This is the first time I saw this thread and I really liked seeing your progress. You made this piece so much better with all the good advice you got.

Mindchamber gave you some SUPER SOLID advice on sketching out a rough character skeleton first, then building form on top, then doing your final details. I think you should apply this process to the WHOLE illustration. Like right now you covered up your footsteps in the snow with the character. If you do a rough, loose sketch of basic placement of stuff, you'll find that you see these problems early on and fix them before you're at the final color stage and stuff.

And when you sketch, keep it loose. Just get the basic size relationships and everything planned out in your composition. If something isn't working, it's just a loose doodle, so you can feel fine about trashing it. That isn't true if you've put all this time into a drawing only to find out some of the pieces don't fit in the composition.

If you want to change the end product, you gotta tweak the process of how you get there. I can't wait to see how your next pieces turn out. Draw a loose sketch of the character AND the background. Get everything placed correctly how you want in the final, then move forward. I'm sure you'll consistently be getting results like this awesome piece.

Awesome face! You really got the rendering skills!

I like the Carrot of Doom one too. It's like a whole story in one picture (and I made the screaming noises).

Response to: Old Man Posted August 1st, 2008 in Art

Wow, quick response Luis! Before I could even get up my second picture. Thanks man!

Yeah, it's an old Disney trick I read about. Rough out your stuff super loose so it's less trouble to throw stuff out. Get the major motions right, then you spend the time to clean it up.

Anyway, here's another. More to come as progress comes along!

What do you guys think?

Old Man Posted August 1st, 2008 in Art

Here's another film I've started (untitled as of yet). Just a couple character snapshots.

If you're wondering why everything is drawn in different colors, it's because I animated it piece by piece. I roughed in the body, then did the beard, then the cloth, then the facial features. It's easier to go one step at a time.
