Yes. Because we all know Tom is in the poorhouse.

Or at least he will be as Kongregate hosts all the best games.

Ouch that hurts. NG doesn't get its money from a multi-million dollar venture fund, it has to EARN IT... with Batman ads.

Today's $100 winner is Odaxelagnia! We're giving away $100 per day from now until I leave for Comic-Con on July 20th. To participate in the raffle, all you need to do is vote on five submissions while logged in. Every day I run a raffle script based on activity from the previous day, and a winner is declared!

Lately, I've noticed a growing number of people asking about Cat Dynamics and if
Sherbert is still alive.

After Pocket Gamer included Cat Dynamics in their 10 best PSP friendly websites, I decided I would make a post about both!

For those who haven't brushed up on NG history, Cat Dynamics was one of the original "NG Features." It went on-line as a static gag site in 1997, but it became sort of interactive in late 1999, when I started showcasing a Cat of the Week.

After the launch of the Flash Portal in 2000, I put together a mockup layout for how an automated Cat of the Week system could work... Basically an entire art portal just for Photoshopped pictures of robot cats. The idea was kinda short-sighted at the time; I wasn't thinking about the whole "everything by everyone" concept quite yet. We never did launch the automated cat picture portal, and to this day we haven't launched the long-rumored Art Portal. Until then, there's always the art forum!

Other News:

David Hayter, the voice of Snake in the Metal Gear games, surprised Egoraptor and Rina-Chan with some direct quotes from Metal Gear Awesome at a Q&A session.

Today we're running a front page skin for the new Batman DVD! How does everyone like the aesthetic? If it bothers you, just be glad we aren't advertising adult diapers or something. Ok I got some money to go roll around in, BYE.

Here are some recent pictures of Sherbert, who is still alive but does have a genetic heart condition. I took one next to the latest issue of EW, as proof that these pics are current! It's sheer coincidence that it happens to be more Batman.

I totally forgot that yesterday, July 6th, was NG's 13th birthday! That would have been a good topic for the daily post!

Also worth noting is that September 17th will be the 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the newgrounds.com domain name. Prior to that, the site existed as an amalgamation of free ISP and Drexel web space.

If you're curious about what NG has been through over the past 13 years, check out the history page or the Flash Portal history. I really need update the history page, considering it ends in 2006.

The latest addition to NG's history was the FOURTH ANNUAL MOD MEAT, which took place two weekends ago. Luis has prepared a four page mod meat blowout that you can check out if you want to see a bunch of pictures of us sitting around and drinking.

Today's $100 winner is emiolo! We're giving away $100 per day from now until I leave for Comic-Con on July 20th. Monster's Dream just entered the Portal this morning and it's worth checking out.

Stamper posted the Metal Gear Collab, Disc 01 yesterday! Over 50 artists, all in one submission! For anyone who didn't get involved due to lack of interest in the subject matter, we're hashing out some ideas for collabs that will revolve around original material - something that lets you flex your imagination a lot more and go nuts, while still maintaining a cohesive theme/story that holds it all together... There's one idea I'm excited about right now, so once we flesh it out some more maybe it will become the next "epic collab" project.

I gotta run so sorry today's post is kinda short. Aksumka asked me to plug the NG Archive, so I'll make that my last note of today! The NG Archive is a fun place that archives layouts and highlights from NG's past and present. Check it out!

Cold Hard Flash recently highlighted the 10 Best Animated Flash Films! A handful of regulars from NG took top honors, including:

#10 - Neenja, Episode 4
#4 - Waterlollies
#1 - Mr. Coo, Episode 4

It was a big wake-up call that the #1 movie was also submitted to NG in 2007, the same year as Waterlollies, yet wasn't included in our annual nominee list. I'm a huge Mr. Coo fan so I regret the oversight. It's a reminder to get our act together better this year.

Speaking of which, there are just two days left for the monthly voting! If you were one of the top 2000 active users in June, you should see a voting link on your account options page. Remember that democracy only works when you exercise good taste! Think about Mr. Coo and all the other amazing movies that might be getting overlooked. The monthly winners become automatic nominees for the annual award, so your vote counts!

The other top 10 animated movies are also worth checking out! I wish the dude who makes Akumi would stop by NG some time, I think he'd be a huge "star" around here. Same with all of them, though; it's all good stuff.

Portal: The Flash Version has been nominated for a Zeeby (casual game awards). Go vote in the Zeebys and you will find Portal in the ninth category, best web game.

Today's $100 winner is Kantoken! We're giving away $100 per day from now until I leave for Comic-Con on July 20th. To participate in the raffle, all you need to do is vote on five submissions while logged in. Every day I run a raffle script based on activity from the previous day, and a winner is declared!

Finally, here is another plug for those wonderful SumoSacs that I posted about a few days ago! :)

Happy 4th of July! At least for those of us in the US.

Today's $100 winner is pballa123! We're giving away $100 per day from now until I leave for Comic-Con on July 20th. To participate in the raffle, all you need to do is vote on five submissions while logged in. Every day I run a raffle script based on activity from the previous day, and a winner is declared!

In community news: Luis interviewed LazyMuffin about his Nameless series and general trends in the Flash scene. Maybe we'll cover some of those topics in a future daily post. Speaking of which, the Metal Gear Collab, to my knowledge, is moving smoothly at the moment. Stamper is in his fortress of solitude (home) trying to make it all work.

So I mentioned we were gonna try to save a life today...

Michelle is a friend of a friend who has Leukemia and less than a month to find a matching donor for a bone marrow translplant. Her friends have set up a website at projectmichelle.com.

To join the registry of donors, all that is required is a cotton swab of the mouth. You can learn more here.

Once you're in the registry, you may get other opportunities to save lives. The final decision is totally up to you, but it doesn't hurt to know who you might be able to save!

We HAVE been getting some positive press this month!

The latest issue of Gamesmaster Magazine in the UK features a piece about me and my dual roles at NG and the Behemoth. GrandfatherClock posted a blurry scan of it on the forums. If anyone has a better scan, post it! I still haven't read the final cut.

The current issue of Animation Magazine ranks JohnnyUtah amongst their Rising Stars of animation!

Brian Cable, aka Cableshaft, has created a trailer for the upcoming XboX 360 Live Arcade game he's been working on! Having come from the Flash gaming scene here on NG, this is the first retail game that will have Brian's name in the credits. If you aren't familiar with his Flash games, check out Proximity and Clock Tournament.

Today's $100 winner is Yaga-Muffin! we're giving out $100 per day from now until I leave for Comic-Con on July 20th. To participate in the raffle, all you need to do is vote on five submissions while logged in. Every day I run a raffle script based on activity from the previous day, and a winner is declared!

If you're looking for other ways to win money, Max Games has announced their new Flash game contest. They are giving away over $40,000 in prize money! The contest is running from now until October 30th and allows you to integrate Flash Ads in your submissions.

Tomorrow we're gonna try to SAVE A LIFE so stay tuned.

Chris Kempt recently did some work with the guys at Sumo, and in return had the opportunity for a free SumoSac. Rather than make the guys spring for shipping to Europe, Chris told them to send it to us! We had no idea it was coming, so it was a huge surprise when this massive THING arrived at the office... It looked like a tractor tire in a duffel bag. We had to roll it up the stairs and down the hall before cutting the ties and figuring out what was inside.

If you remember, Sumo sent us an Omni cushion in exchange for a plug back in 2006.

The guys LOVE the SumoSac (it's huge) and we thought it would be cool to have a few more, so I contacted Sumo and asked for SIX more sacs in exchange for a bunch of plugs. Yesterday, the sacs arrived! They are totally worth checking out and I'll be plugging them over the next 18 days leading up to Comic-Con. If you aren't aware, I'm posting DAILY until I leave for Comic-Con on July 20th, and to make it interesting we're giving out $100 per day. To participate in the raffle, all you need to do is vote on five submissions while logged in. Every day I run a raffle script based on activity from the previous day, and a winner is declared!

Today's $100 winner is Evark, who happens to be a mod! Speaking of mods, the Mod Meat was this past weekend. I'll be posting more about that in one of my upcoming daily posts.

In other news, I've made a secondary version of the Bytesize player and put it in the Portal, along with some new Bytesize submissions. This player skips the news bytes and runs at twice the size, for an enhanced viewing experience!

Here's a pic of the Sumo Sacs! I was trying to re-create a scene from House of 1000 Cats, which was re-creating a scene from this edited Pico Day pre-loader.

One of my favorite press blurbs about NG came from UK gaming magazine "EDGE":

"YouTube. Flickr. MySpace. Wikipedia. Second Life. Bored yet? Probably. We've had the message of how these web phenomena epitomise the user-generated content revolution excitably rammed down our throats for what seems like years. Yet the sites that really kickstarted the movement hardly get a mention.

Newgrounds.com, the large Flash games and animation site that spawned Alien Hominid, has been accepting user-produced submissions since 1999. That it has been quietly spearheading for eight years what is only now being trumpeted about in the mainstream media is indicative of how overlooked the Flash games scene is."

Sadly, most of the press tends to find the most NEGATIVE things they can on NG, and focus on those instead. They do it with the self-righteous tone of raising awareness, when they're really just exploiting offensive content to gain viewers, just like we do!

The latest controversy has been surrounding The Torture Game 2, a fun little ragdoll physics engine that lets you do all sorts of horrible things to a lifeless dummy. Sensible Erection put together a gallery of all the fancy artwork you can create with TG2 (scroll down on that page to see it), at which point Derek Yu made a post about it on TIGSource and a whole debate erupted.

MSNBC picked up on the TIGSource debate and posted their own article about the game, but the real fun came when FOX News weighed in with a Fair & Balanced video, expressing their disgust while showing real-time footage of the person being tortured. Hey! At least we slapped a MATURE rating on the game and made you click a link to view it... Fox just dumped it into every living room in America!

As a result of their efforts, many more people are now enjoying The Torture Game 2.

Today's $100 winner is chainsawmurderer53!

We will be giving out $100 per day from now until I leave for Comic-Con on July 20th! To participate in the raffle, all you need to do is vote on five submissions while logged in. Every day I run a raffle script based on activity from the previous day, and a winner is declared!
