After ABS bought exclusive viewing for Bad Idea for 12 months, I checked with them to see if it was cool for me to spread it around the interwebs one year later (2007), the word was yay.

I came here to upload "Bad Idea" for Halloween 2007 and saw that there was a Halloween collection, with a contest associated with it. "Sweet", thought I, "more publicity and the chance to win something, or at least be putting the wind up some of the best-loved animators on the site". Carefully scrutinising the rules, I saw that the submission had to have their preloader in it. Checking the current top-scoring animation (which was one day shy of becoming what is now this week's Weekly #1, well done, hats off etc), I saw that they'd incorporated the preloader and added their own funky graphics so I figured I'd get away with doing the same, allowing me to still have most of the original title screen. (In the original, the loader is a zombie hand clawing its way out of the ground in front of a tombstone with the amount loaded enscribed at various heights on it. Took me ages to make, damn actionscript, grrr.)

It didn't occur to me that the Newgrounds preloader should be on every copy of the animation in existence, which seems rather inappropriate to me because Newgrounds isn't the only site hosting it. The idea of the preloader is to stop people from baumanning the movie (that is, stealing it from this website and putting it on their own sites without permission). I truly hope that nobody here was thinking of doing this.
Also, this rule deters people from stealing animations from OTHER websites and entering them in the contest without the author's permission, and getting disqualified.

If there indeed is a problem with Bad Idea being on websites other than Newgrounds, I can remove it from Newgrounds and remember that in future Newgrounds has a strict rule about exclusive branding, and take my business elsewhere. But I kinda doubt that this is the case. ;-) Glad to see that many people enjoyed it, and that for many of those people it was something new.

Don't feel too bad about it. You're pretty young and probably new to Flash, and look what you made: one of the currently most popular animations on the internet! You can do it again. No, you can do even better. Move on and do something even greater. Make Eric Baumann feel disappointed that he only got one of your early animations. You were just warming up.
Sure, you may have lost this time round, but you haven't peaked. Soon enough you'll be making animations that will put Animator vs Animation to shame, mark my words. Just don't let this Ebaums episode get you down. Find that inspiration and make more, greater animations.
A little note: Flash Pro costs like $1000, so next time don't ask for anything less than that. There will always be other people who can offer you more than $250. :)

That is a great preloader, but I've made my own (by modifying the original NG one).

I've been spending the past day making bonus footage and hidden stuff. :D
I even put in a subtle reference to one of your movies, NeNe (hopefully not too subtle).

I've made a little movie for Pico Day too. ^_^ It has the potential to be made into a game someday, but I'll wait for feedback on that after its release in the 30th!

In early 2003, a friend of mine, inspired by my "French Erotic Film" trilogy, made an animutation that was rather popular. He put it on Newgrounds and it got "blammed", which wasn't very nice. It wasn't a "piece of crap", as the "blam" option would suggest, so we weren't very happy with that outcome.

A short time later, I was alerted to the fact that somebody had taken my "French Erotic Film" animutation and put it on Newgrounds (several months after I already had) and was passing it off as his own work. It was NOT blammed.

So, I decided to boycott Newgrounds, for just one animation.

That animation was "I've Got Some Falling To Do" (the one mentioned in the first post).

It turned out to be very popular. Oh well, I've made two other Lemon Demon music videos, one of which made it through the portal without getting blammed and even got a brief front-page mention even though lots of people didn't really like it much. But the point is that you still get to see the movies whether or not they're on Newgrounds... so, don't worry about it. :)

And I don't have anything against the Newgrounds site either... just thought I'd clear that up. :)

Well that's fine by me, because I plan to set up a small business, and I am an individual. Big businesses are not "an individual" - they are many many people. Let's generalise and say that for every small business there is a Labour voter. However, for every big business, there might be one or two National Voters (because the boss of a big business can't tell his underlings who to vote for). And since the small businesses outnumber the big ones, Labour wins!

How cynical of me. I don't really think like that, but it seems that many of us do. I actually plan to get the hell outta NZ ASAP. :D

It's a foregone conclusion about what the next government is. It's Labour again. The real fun will be to see if Helen Clark is still going to bed with Jim or with Jeanette this time! Jim was doing strikingly well in the debate, but afterwards, Helen decided to get all chummy with Jeanette of the Greens. Poor old Jim Anderton. :(
