I could never beat any of those games - Putt-Putt, Slylock Fox (I could be wrong about that name, but it was a detective game where you played a fox), or an Arthur game that, if I recall correctly, involved ice cream.

Of course, I haven't played any of these games since I was 6, so it's difficult to gauge my video game ability based on that.

Response to: if abraham lincolns skin was kevlar Posted July 15th, 2010 in General

You do realize that he didn't die from the gunshot, but rather the infection from the "doctors" shoving their unwashed hands into him to try to fish out the bullet.

He was hit near the base of the skull, and survived 2 days (give or take) before dieing. He would have been severely paralyzed, but alive.

the real question should have been - if modern medical practices were around when Abraham Lincoln was shot, how would history be different?

Really? It's got to be able to be backed up somehow; there's no way that the developer would make a game that ball-slicingly hard just to say "fuck you" whenever your system crashes or HDD is wiped.

The Robot Posted July 13th, 2010 in Writing

I've been bouncing this idea around for a long time now, although only recently have I been able to put it down. While this might have been kind of perfect for Robotday, it wasn't finished by that point, and couldn't have been entered in any contests anyway. Whatever, it's here now, and hopefully you guys will think it's kind of good.

The Robot

The Robot was born on January 9, 9170
To Desert Father Electronics,
The aloof parent.
While the Robot was one of many, it was singular.
It was different.
This robot could Comprehend.
It Understood.
He stepped off of the assembly line
And onto the flat Earth
That he knew was round
And wanted to show it.

Thoughts went through his circuitry
Like fuel through an engine,
Spinning his gears
And letting him speed through Imagiriums
At breakneck paces
With only his motherboard as his brakes.

He knew the very secrets
Of the Universe
And every Lock to the World.
He mastered every text,
And every book,
And every bible,
As though he
Had written them.

And he felt all the emotions -
Love, hate,
Pain, joy,
Jealousy,
Envy,
Pride,
Passion,
Awe,
Grief.

And yet,
He could not express these feelings.
He was not programmed to share
His endless depths with the world.
It was casted and formed to solder
It computed that.

So,
It stood in line,
Next to the drones,
And did its task
Of soldering other's wires.
And,
For the next hundred thousand years,
All it did
Was solder.

Glad to see such warm welcome! And I was just kidding about not seeing me in 4 months; I must have forgotten to leave my sarcasm tag open.

Eagle, I had no idea you wrote a new story. I'll have to check it out, although I'm still (maybe) halfway through Barracks Under Fire, but if this new one strokes my ego, it's coming first. And us Joysy boys gots to sticks together.

Sir-Nuts, I'm more than just a Boy Scout's mentor now; I got my Eagle Scout in December.

Byte, I might even say that I'm even more strange now than I was before. Amazing how much different life can be with a few changes.

Response to: Stop Spending! Posted July 13th, 2010 in Politics

Look, the economic theory of the Obama administration is that our economy is based on spending. When consumer spending stops because of a lack of credit and a loss of jobs, the government needs to step in and take the place of that consumer spending.

Reagan believed that tax cuts would allow consumers to spend more without the government stepping in.

Both economic theories have the government losing money in the beginning. With tax cuts comes a loss of revenue, which is already down because not as many people are making as much money. But with increased spending means that the government is increasing the deficit.

But in the long run, business tax and income tax revenue will increase as businesses and people make more money. And under the Keynesian plan, spending programs will be reduced and/or eliminated, and more people will be paying taxes.

Of course, both of those are just theories that may not work or cause problems down the road. It seems to be that tax cuts tend to lead to a recession later, and people tend to like government programs after they've been around for a little while.

So both of these economic theories that are being tossed around don't lead to a balanced budget, or will only be a temporary fix, and either one is viable. But no one wants to cut spending, because no one wants to be seen as the bad guy who supported a cut to Program X, which effects Group Y, who are now voting for the other candidate. I mean, look at the argument against the Healthcare Bill - $500 Billion will be cut from a socialized medical program to fund a socialized medical program; clearly this second socialized medical plan is bad and must be stopped because it's hurting a socialized program, and we can't have that in order to move closer to socialism.

4 Years Posted July 12th, 2010 in Writing

*Note* This is still a pseudo work-in-progress. I'm still playing around with the wording, but I figure I'll share it now and see how it's received.

The idea was conceived in the emotionally reflective times of high school graduation. Although it's a "graduation" poem, it can really be applied to any time you took a reflective look on life. But enough talk, let's poem.

------------------------

4 Years

4 years is a long time.
4 years is a short time.
4 years is dreams, is aspirations, is wishes.
4 years is depression, is avoided opportunities, is wayward paths.

4 years can make you.
4 years can misguide you.
4 years can build you.
4 years can bring you down.

4 years will be remembered.
4 years will be purged from the mind.
4 years will be a life.
4 years will be a death.

4 years has been in us,
And now you have to decide if
4 years is how your life will be, or
4 years is how your life won't be.

So I beat Operation Flashpoint. Overall a solid game, but nothing spectacular. What really drags it down is the AI, both friendly and enemy. But other than that, it does a good job of making you feel like you're in middle of a war. Oh, and it allows for awesome moments, like when I shot a guy with a rocket launcher (which made him disappear), my character said in the most nonchalant way "Rifleman is eliminated".

For $26, it was well worth it.

I'm down for that. I'm about 50/50 with expert guitar, and almost always expert bass. I can play medium drums for every song, and hard drums for the easy/medium songs. And I can pull off singing on easy, and maybe medium.

The other squad died out long before then. But a stroke of luck hit me on the first run through of the day, and I only lost my 4 and the co-pilot.

You should start up again; the next mission is a covert stealth mission, and if you play it that way, it's a lot of fun.

So I picked up Flashpoint the other day. Good thing I waited - the case got a bit torn and they knocked the price down to $26. It's alright. The graphics are decent, the gameplay is solid, but the AI is horrible. For example, I'm currently on the 4th (?) mission, the one where you have to rescue the helicopter pilots. Well, after you save them, you have to escape a small village that has a swarm of Chinamen coming to attack it. You have 2 options; take refuge in a building and take down the Chinese, or run to the extraction point, spraying bullets behind you. The only problem is, my team is too stupid to do either of these. They prefer to stand in the open and get cut down, instead of getting into a building. And when I tell them to move/follow me, the slowly back up and stop every few steps to shoot at the enemy. I have a few strategies to possibly get around that, but I shouldn't have to compensate for my team's retardation.

So, I'm looking at Operation Flashpoint 2 and The Saboteur. The Saboteur is $20 and OF2:DR is $35. So I pose this question to you: do I go for both? Or is one not worth the money?

Mind you, I have the $55 to get both, so don't worry about that.

There's very little chance you'll get anything close to $350. When people buy used consoles, they're looking for deals; for that money, they could get a new slim with a 120GB hard drive, 1 controller and 1-2 games. You might be able to squeeze out $150-$200 for it.

I'm surprised more people haven't been talking about this.

Steam is coming the PS3. Granted, it seems like it's merely just a way to provide Portal 2 updates and DLC, but it's a step towards a Steam "App" for the triple.

I'd actually like to see Steam or a similar service on the PS3. While Sony has been fairly open with the PSN, it would be cool to for developers to publish custom mods that aren't subject to Sony's quality inspectors/profit analysis team.

I don't have the problem, although it does usually take a good amount of time to download something.

If you want to go from your PC to your PS3, you'll have to make sure your flash drive is FAT32 in order for the PS3 to read it. It doesn't do NTFS. If it isn't FAT32, just do a quick Google search for formatting drives.

To be honest, I'm not going to be using the 3D feature as I don't have a 3D TV, nor plan on getting one soon, jetpacks are now going on at least 2 years old (3rd Warhawk pack), and I hope to god that they would add more weapons.

As for the story, it sounds exactly like KZ2 right now. What I want to see more from the story is a bit of humanization of the Helghast. Make them less evil; the ISA is invading their home planet and mercilessly slaughtering everyone. Why not make everything a bit more gray instead of black and white?

I agree. If you know the tracks, you can easily dodge most of the Power Plays. And although it's hard to gauge the cars by the demo (you only got to play as 1 kind), they all seem pretty much the same. Sure, there may be a little difference between types, but nothing major. Oh, and it's fucking impossible to get the 2nd stage power play, unless you're waaaaaaayyyyyy in front or really don't care if you're sitting in the middle of the pack for a while.

It's a fun game, but it's far from a polished title. I'd wait until the bargain bin prices, then get it. But I am excited to see if they can make the sequel much better than this one.
