Response to: Forum Archive Idea Posted April 1st, 2013 in Writing

Reading over resources, talking to a few people, and planning some things out. Should be able to have something to put together by the end of this week or the weekend.

Response to: Forum Archive Idea Posted March 29th, 2013 in Writing

Thank you for the resources:) If I start anything, it is going to be after I am prepared.

Let me clarify some things - are you the sole de facto 'link poster' of the thread, or are authors allowed to post their own links themselves? Are there requirements for authors to meet in order to get their stories accepted into the archive? (word count max 10k, links must be on Newgrounds, etc) Things like this could get disorganised really fast.

Thank you for bringing that up, that was something I forgot to mention that. Starting out, it will probably be just one person adding post, either me or a moderator if they think it is better for them to control it. The concept of the archive would that a reader would ask permission, then post it. The only thing if authors post them, I am worried that they would write just to be on the archive and not for the forum. So word count would depend on the authors post, but it would not be like a paragraph long story. The archive would only be taking forum post.

Let me give a run through of how I thought is would start out: You would have one or two readers. They would read stories posted. If the story has a body, plot, and quality they would ask the author if they can post a link to it on the thread. Some authors could request to be on it, but I dont think that will start happening till it the thread got older.

It will start off very simple, and I dont see it gaining a lot of speed off the bat.

Forum Archive Idea Posted March 28th, 2013 in Writing

Ok, I had my eyes open a couple of days ago by a few members of the writing community. I had my mind so fixed on "PORTAL PORTAL PORTAL" that I didnt see something crucial. Having a writing portal is pointless if a post or submission will not be reviewed or even seen. There needs to be a sense of community between the writers and readers of the forum, even if we dont get a portal. What I thought of doing was creating a thread, and each post would have a link to a story someone has posted to the forum, or if they are like me, have uploaded to their profile. For you see, a writer can post a story, it never gets reviewed, slides of the first page, and no one ever sees it.

With this thread, it would create almost like an archive. If it is updated twice a week, the stories will be there for everyone to see even if they are completed or never finished. Any Newgrounds writer knows it is hard getting feedback on any story you post. Maybe this will help. KNOW THIS: If I do it, I will only post links to stories on the thread after I ask permission from the author and they agree.

Here is an example of how the post to the thread would look:

Title: Yadada
Author: BOOM
Link:----------------
Description: (up to author what it says or if there even is one)

Well, there is my idea in a nutshell. I want to apologize to any moderators I may have pissed off with my persistence lol.

Wow, just finished the prologue and it is not what I expected. It is really impelling and gripping. I already had in my mind before I read this about what the tortuous was going to be like and no idea what the plot was. I'll keep reading if you keep writing!

Response to: CreepyPasta: Jellied Babies Posted March 28th, 2013 in Writing

I have listened to some of creepypasta, and I think you did pretty good. You have such good idea for this story, but it seems either a little rushed or just not descriptive enough for me. I guess Im just a sadist, I like my horror stories with very vivid details lol. But a good story, good style. Creating more paragraphs can really help with the flow of reading. You should never go more than eight sentences, or however many you need to describe a point, etc. Good luck, and keep writing!

Response to: Sub Tyrannus Posted March 28th, 2013 in Writing

Intriguing and a pretty good teaser. Since there was no paragraph structure, it was a little had to read. Even starting each piece of dialog on a new line would have created a better flow to it. Good luck on your novel, and hope to see more.

Response to: Hitler's Secret Posted March 28th, 2013 in Writing

Totally caught me off guard lol. You had great visualization and the story flowed well, even if it was short. Hope continue to write!

If you talking about the ', it is what happens when you an apostrophe. There are ways around, but the easiest way is to exclude them. People who visit the forum will understand.

Response to: Petition for a Writing Portal Posted March 24th, 2013 in Writing

I thought about sending a link to this thread to a staff member(s) or something. But the thing is, I dont know if the rumors of a writing portal are just rumors to settle the writing forum down or if it is seriesly in planning. This thread was made to get the attention and to help show that the writing forum wants a portal. Recently I just got flagged by some moderators for what they said was posting spam. I didnt know it was spam because I dont post spam. I posting that meem I created to only the forums that were based off of a portal and was asking politely for support for the writing portal. I got a lot of hate from normal members and a moderator, the threads were shut down, and I decided to stay with just the writing forum. I wanted to get feedback from the writing forum before I did anything because I didnt want do something like before I got some backing from the writers and readers. This is your forum. And if we ever get a portal, it would be YOUR portal. Just let me know what you think.

There's been talk about a lit portal floating about probably since the creation of the art portal.

That being said, I'd be more inclined to oppose it now just because of this thread spamming.

Thats a little harsh, but it is your opinion. This wasnt ment to be a spam, just trying to get support from forums that have a portal to go along with them by using a brief thread. I did post it in other forums, so I guess it could be a spam. If so, I truly apoligize. Spamming can get annoying. Just know I meant well and if it is of any comfurt, an admin will probebly delet it lol.

I hear rumors about it being planned, but none of the admins will confirm or they dont know. Seriesly, dont oppose it just because one guy is trying to promote the idea. Merry March Madness!

The art portal is only relatively new compared to the rest of the site and still has some improvements with how it can be maintained, and the writing forum is even newer than that.

The inherent problem with it is that unlike a flash, a drawing, or audio, writing is a bit more of a subjective and time consuming thing. You can't just look at a piece of writing and instantly see the quality of work being presented. You usually have to read the whole thing to decide.

That said, making a bunch of threads isn't gonna do anything. Pm one of the admins if you wanna do something or at least get some info.

Thanks for taking time to comment and state your opinion:) Most of the admins won't respond and the ones that do say pretty much what you did.

I didnt want an arguments to start, if anything I thought poeple would be mad at me lol. Everyone has their own oppinion. I just created this thread to show there are very series writers on newgrounds, and it would be beneficial to have a writing portal.

And some newgrounds writers do get published(most of them are trying anyway). Check out WritersBlock.

P.s. had a mishap earlyer with the pic I created for the movement. Should appear now. Merry March Madness!

I know. Im not trying to get people mad. I am trying to get support from other forums that have a portal to go along with them. This thread is the only thing on the matter I will post to other forums beside the writimg forum. Just trying to let other forums know that writers really want a portal too. Thanks for taking time to comment:)

The solution is simple: slap a really high par of quality needed for your content to be released into the lit portal.

Exactly! I would think it would be done almost like the art portal, where you have to be scouted. Or maybe like the underjudgement for movies. I like the idea of a quaility check though. More for content to see if its legit and not like a clockcrew submission. Oh god, the horror lol.
