Just got back from my vacation and made this real quick. I really need some tips on lighting and shadows.

I've never really been able to color my art before so I'm new to this stuff.

Anyway, the reason he has the word poop on his head is a long story of my friend going on and on about Dr. Poop from Snl. Just thought I would add that in there as a joke.

Maybe the anatomy had work to be done, though. I, for one, can never decide how to do eyes, but there are certain ways to do them, usually a black dot suffices, since he wasn't meant to be completely lifelike, anyway. And, for the hands, I find it most useful, when drawing hands, to just take about a minute, and look at MY hand, and then draw it. If you continue with an art education, then you will find fists will be one of the easiest poses to draw. Other than that, keep it up! You have great potential, my friend!

Thanks a lot for the tips! I HAD to look at my hand to be able to draw him holding the flower, that part was a pain haha. And the fist was no problem for me, I mean, I still need work on it, but the one I drew was quite easy for me. And I'll try to keep getting better and better :D. I'll have another pic up soon. Not really sure when though. Since I'm stuck at this La Quinta haha.

Wait, here's an old sketch. It's old, but still...and yes I know he has 4 fingers, that's just my comfort zone I guess. Need to get out of it some time.

To be constructive I must say, that the shadow seems to be off. It's in the upper left of the nose, in the upper right on the one arm and on the right on the other arm. Which direction is the light coming from?

I would love to see this piece colored. It may not be anatomically perfect, but I think it's good.

Sorry for the double post. I admit the lighting/shading is off in this picture. I could go over it again and color it in as well.

Well, anatomy is something you should work on... Its very sketchy, i get the idea though, tough looking on the outside, soft on the inside....

it also appears that he has 4 fingers....
the second one, did you draw both sides? it has the feel that it was filter raped beyond repair and then drawn on... But, I like it better than the first one

For the 1st drawing the hands were a pain to draw with a finger so I had to sacrifice something to make it look more natural. And that 2nd one was a test with various photo editing apps on my iphone. It was originally just a drawing of a cheerleader with that face. I would post it, but its lopsided and I don't have a scanner. Unless I can find one at the La Quinta I'm staying in.

All of these are done on my iPhone by the way. I'm on a road trip so sketch book pro mobile is a very useful tool on the go.

So about a year ago....I posted some, well, crappy drawings is a nice way to put it. The thread got deleted and I really didn't bother working on art until I took an art class. That's where I really felt determined to improve on detail, proportion, anatomy, and basically everything else. So, I'm going to try again at an art thread and see how it goes. Criticism is very much appreciated. Atleast, constructive criticism.

Lol, my version seems a bit over-exaggerated, but whatever.

It's actually pretty good...that would be pretty good concept art for a zombie game in my opinion...just gives me that feel. I don't exactly know what that feeling is but it's a good one.

That's not a bad critique really seeing as when you try to create a idea you have to take some risks for something unique or Maybe applying a few things you like and taking some features that you dont. Now it's not really bad to persay that you want to experiment with different styles especially with some you don't particularly like but Really you already have a style of own it just takes time to develope and notice.

Sorry about the double post but I wanted to comment on this...That is some really good advice(about having your own style and taking the time for it to develop)...I have heard it before but still...its good to hear. Thx.

Good Advice ^
And I'll add some more to it
I like your drawings (top one the most). Looks like they'll be pretty cool if you keep at it. One thing I have noticed though is that their isn't much sense of depth. I know their is no background or anything. With that being said try to tilt the shoulders a little more(the farther away one being slightly smaller). And try drawing the closer shoe overlapping the one in the back. This will put things in a little bit better perspective.
O and nice eyeballs by the way on the guy to the left in the top pick.

Hey thanks for all the advice...I'm pretty new to drawing so I'm trying my best to learn from my mistakes. I've always had trouble with perspective since my first drawing....I'll use this advice for future refrence..Thanks!

Oh and about the depth...I photo shopped this on my itouch.....Its not much but I think it gives more life to the picture in my opinion.

Because for a style, it's rather inconsistence, even cartoons use anatomy, also try adding some shading, they have drop shadows so I know you are trying.
On styles, I don't like styles, don't try to stick to one, just draw. Many an artist think they need to have their style set in stone, and you don't it's just gets you aggravated. I'v gone through more style than I know of before I got to the one I'm at, and that'll probably change soon enough.

TL;DR Don't stick to a style just draw, experiment.

Well I really don't sketch them out first its kinda like a first thing that comes to mind deal.
......................
And about the styles, I don't stick to one style its more like a back and forth style...one drawing here...one there...that sorta thing
