Umm, real punk?

Since when were Bad Religion, Pennywise, and Social Distortion real punk?

That's what I call pop-punk.

And SLC Punk is a bullshit, poser, and inaccurate movie.

Let me establish a few things:

1.) Punk was born about 1976/77

2.) The Ramones were not a punk band, they were rock. They said it themselves. Neither were the New York Dolls.

3.) Punk died in 1986. That's when Minor Threat broke up, Bad Brains turned reggae, and every other hardcore punk band either broke up or turned metal.

4.) NOFX has been pop-punk ever since they released "Ribbed", 1990. They were hardcore punk from 1983-1988.

5.) Anti-Flag has never been a punk band, and never will be. Pop-punk sucks.

6.) Neither are the Distillers

7.) Or The Casualties

8.) OR The Buzzcocks (first pop-punk band ever)

Yeah, I see what you mean. I just have a hard time calling it punk rock because punk itself is a sub-genre of rock.

And I admit, I used to like NoFX, and I still like Hardcore'84. And Dig. They just kind of attach to you. But I just hate everyone in NoFX.

I have my different reasons for having problems with Bad Religion, NoFX, and Pennywise. I used to listen to all three, so I know a bit about them.

NoFX: They have the nerve to still call themselves punks after they practically sold out. They used to have anti-vegetarian songs back in '85 or so, and NOW they put together a compilation called "Songs To Benefit PETA". I respect them, though, for listening to real punk though. Adolescents, Adrenalin O.D., and The F.U.'s were some of their major influences.

Bad Religion: They used to play hardcore too, and they sold out. They signed to a major record label with the release of "Stranger Than Fiction". They're pretty damn old too. The lead singer looks like Bob Odenkirk.

Pennywise: AAAAAAAAAH they call themselves skate punk. They're all corporate puppets. They support stupid companies like Vans and Element. They call themselves punk rather than punk rock and try to be anarchists, for example, "Fuck Authority".

But I give all three bands support, because they're a good entrance to other punk bands. When you start listening to these bands you would want to hear their roots.

Well, considering I've already bumped this topic twice, I'll reply with posts to the actual topic. And no, these are not shitty pop-rock bands like new NoFX, Pennywise, and new Bad Religion. These is the REAL stuff. Anything where I don't list albums means all their albums are good.
