so... WHAT TIME IS IT?

I'm doing my stretches and warming up... HUUUHHHH

Response to: 24hrc3 : Through The Portal Posted December 6th, 2010 in Collaboration

the theme outline sounds very interesting and kind of loose which I like... I can't wait to sink my teeth into this project.

some progress... It looks random and kind of is, but I have a plan for it... you'll see :)

This is looking great, lots of quality people involved!
Mine is going slow, but should get a real kickstart on my day off tomorrow

by the way, I love you all and want to squeeze your eyes out through their sockets! XD

Response to: Guinea Pig (a Collaboration) Posted March 3rd, 2010 in Collaboration

As RedHarvest said, I'll be co-creating this with him, and we're looking to make something so freakish that you're disgusted yet so beautiful you can't take your eyes off it... or something.
I'll be making the menus, preloader and compiling it, trust me, I'll be making them pretty.

Response to: Moarph Posted February 20th, 2010 in Collaboration

it looks pretty damned good, I sneaked a peek while I was making the screensavers.
I wander what everyone will think of it... fingers crossed!

"moarphs, in and out"... get's my vote
or just "morphs, in and out" if you like

I don't think literally putting the word sex in the title works at all.

It's fun to watch but there are problems with this, and I think it's because you've started doing inbetweens too early and not gotten all the poses of a walk in.
For a convincing walk there are 4 poses per step that have to be right,

the contact (which you've done well)
the down or "recoil" (where the front foot takes the weight and the head bobs down),
the passing position (where the on the ground leg straightens and the other comes through),
and the up position or "high point" (where the new leg is thrust forward into the next step).

see the picture below, which I have STOLEN using the MAGIC of a google image search :O

I think you must've gone to "export image" instead of "export movie"

Response to: Weeklies 3 run cycles Posted February 2nd, 2010 in Animation

I thought I'd better put my money where my mouth is and make something.
I animated it moving across the screen then brought it back together to make it easier to see here in the gif and to compare the two approaches, about an hour and a half's work. Looking at those eyeballs wobble I'd say it's easier to maintain the shapes of objects when doing it on the spot, but I get a better feel for the physics of the movement in moving it across. I also inbetweened it in the air so that it hangs there a little longer and I miscalculated the flapping arms, they're not delayed enough and the downward flap is too strong...

here's the animation moving across the screen

Any feedback before I retrace it?

At 2/1/10 11:31 AM, robin1232 wrote: 2. why are those green lines on my gif?

The green lines come up because on those frames the artwork is selected. What you need to do to avoid it is to turn the Multiple Selection Onion Skin on then select all the frames in your animation, then deselect them. Now when you export it none of the art will be selected and those green lines will be gone.
It used to happen to me all the time but somehow I figured out why and stumbled on this solution.

A new name idea if you want to go down the "sex sells" style name path;

A Bit of the Old In and Out

hmm? I was just trying to describe this morphing style and called them In and Out loops, and it came to me like a slap in the face from a sea hag with an atlantic salmon.

I'll colour the new ones in and get them to you later today, which I guess is in the middle of the night for you :)

I've just made two more parts, I'm not going to change the other one, I'll just use it in something else. These two should be okay though, the square duck is over the limit, about 76 frames, I can cut it back if you really want me to... but I feel it needed the inbetweens to work.

Xcyper33 it's all about exaggerating the up position and getting the airborne for a couple of frames before crashing into the contact and an exaggerated down position to catch themselves. Yours is a fantastic angry stride! :D

Response to: Moarph Posted January 31st, 2010 in Collaboration

S4cr3d-Cr4p, it looks great, the transitions are nice. I can't wait to see it with the menus filled! :D

Bezman, that final looks fantastic, I think the spiral kind of takes charge anyway when you're glancing at it so it's not so overwhelming that so much is going on, and the arc on the jaw coming round looks fantastic.

LostPencil, it's really simple and plain, which works well for the lines moving through but the cloud coming in looks a little boring. It would look better if there was some drag on the clouds to give the sense of movement as they come in, then it fluffs out when it stops.

I really like it, there is so much going on... which is both good and bad.
good, because you want to watch it repeatedly to see all the individual pieces change...
and bad, because it's not as clear as it could be on the first viewing...
One other thing to consider is easing in and out of the movements to make them more clear, adding more frames at the start and end of the movement makes it look more natural and makes it easier for the audience to follow.
As I said love it, especially the jaw thing in the closing, I'm just making suggestions because I want the attention :3

I made up a new one in the middle of the night last night, but I think in my sleepy state I've gone too far off track as far as it being able to relate to the rest of the pieces... It's more character animation than a morph...

I disagree, I used to do all mine walking on the spot, but I find it looks and feels much more natural moving the character across the screen. If I then need to put it on the spot I then bring the drawings together keeping them at the same height and overlapping them at the hips.

The problem I found is that when I took an on the spot looping walk and tweened it across the screen it dragged it's feet, because when we walk we don't move forward at an even pace.

But then again, I don't make games, so huuuuurrrrrr... it's hard for me to say this... but maybe Luis has a point... vomit XU

I'll have to remake my walk tutorial and see what you think of my technique Luis

I AM SO IN FOR THIS!!!

have you chosen music?

I strongly recommend that you use "burnin' the iceburg" by Jelly Roll Morton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzk4eYL5Q B0

If you want to use this track I can email it to you.
I've calculated that at 24 fps there is a beat on every eleventh frame for anyone that wants to sync to the beat, which was a big thing in early animation.

Wheee!!! :D

Response to: Weeklies 3 run cycles Posted January 27th, 2010 in Animation

it's been fun watching these guys, I find run cycles really hard because of all the weight in the body throwing itself around... it's all about overlapping action, which I've found to be the hardest thing to understand but once you do everything has so much more weight and flow to it's movement.

I wouldn't call this a run so much as a light jog
