Except that Blockhead really has a painting of a Clown and of a Piano on his wall, I'd say you got it :) 8/10

It's certainly better than the Blockhead drawings I used to make up until I learned Flash.

I THINK it's ok - I asked Tom something similar, about mildly obstructing the preloader, and he seemed ok with it so long as the message still gets across. Obviously, if you change the text to read "Pico's STUPID DAY!!!111" then you're probably out of the contest :D

!*&!$*(&!$&(*!% What do I draw on mine?! So little space, so many ideas!

Luis, I was thinking: maybe instead of putting these things back together in a big book, you could actually turn them into a mobile that Tom can hang over his bed. It would be adorable.

Julian (from Toonimated) and I have been hard at work on our Pico collaboration. We're working hard, and we expect the same from everyone else who's seriously participating! I thought I'd mention it here in Luis's Pico Day thread. Our project is secret but our participation doesn't have to be.

Here is a sample. Oh Pico, you get into the silliest situations.

They released TMNT on the XBLA?! Why wasn't I informed?!

I think Komix and I kinda had more in mind than what Flash could offer when we started putting together the Blockhead game. It was kinda ambitious for such a notoriously stingy program, and I'm still convinced it would have been easier/more fun if it ran a bit quicker. Alas, Flash is a hard nut to crack when you've got grand ideas. We might try something a little more Flash friendly in the future, but we'll see.

Haha, and dapper as always in your Tank shirt, Tom. I always thought you should put together a photo album of any prize pack winners who wanna show off their NG attire post-reception.

I've actually noticed that short cartoons such as Chris Nosal's "Bad Guys" get circulated around the internet a lot more easily, but you really have to have a zinger on your hand to get it noticed. Otherwise people forget they ever even saw it some five minutes later.

Hi folks. I need a few opinions. Maybe even a LOT of few opinions.

Let's say you've got an animation idea that is pretty decent. It's a good idea but you want to make the best decision about how to distribute the work you're doing over time. Would you, as an audience member, rather watch a cartoon that goes on for five minutes and is entertaining, or watch a 60-second animation that blows you away but leaves you wanting more?

My cartoons are getting longer and longer (sometimes over 6 minutes nowadays), but I am trying my hand at a minute-long FBF bonanza. I wanna know if it's both something people want to watch, and something people actually prefer. Which category do your favorite NG toons fit into, I wonder?

But up until you realize that, it's pretty addictive. And the whole thing is rather clever. And it's quite original.

And he is planning on developing a much better sequel.

I like all kinds of world sims. This Pandemic game was, to its credit, incredibly easy to learn, so I hope that's not lost in the sequel.

On the side, good job on putting together that art forum collab submission, squeakytoad. I honestly don't mind that it's just pictures instead of actual animation. Really, anyone who can't get over the fact that it took a whole lot of people to make it happen, and who are upset because it lowered the ranking of their sprite cartoon, obviously has no concept of talent or (most importantly) effort. It was an amusing concept and you guys did a great job putting it together.

That game was incredible. Intelligent and addictive. How on earth did you not understand it?

I kind of felt like it wasn't very interactive. I wouldn't say it "made no sense" like the previous reviewer, unless he meant that it didn't seem like much of a game per se. Aside from a "next turn" button, there really wasn't much you could do to influence the game, especially because you've already bought all the upgrades about 1/5 of the way through.

Admittedly, it was a very clever concept, and I really hope to see a more involved version in the future. And I of all people know that the #1 winner slot doesn't mean that an entry was the definite favorite of most voters, and yet I do feel it deserved to place somewhere in the top 5. Hopefully this gives the author some incentive to make a sequel.

Wow, that is just silly.

Maybe there's a system code that automatically places certain series on the front page as soon as they're submitted?

+1 protection.

Actually, the reason was that I emailed it to Tom because the file was !@*(&%$*&!% huge and I couldn't upload it myself. And I guess Tom decided that he'd go ahead and put it on the frontpage even though it had to pass judgement :)

Sorry to double-post, but I'm the jerk who doesn't read the last page of discussion and then decides he hadn't said all he feels needs to be said.

You know, every time I see a review of one of my newer cartoons that says "Your style has really improved, it looks so professional", I want to feel happy but I can't help but feel like I'm losing my place as an amateur animator. Really, I am not professional. I have no formal training, I work only for myself, I have a 19" monitor and a 4x6 Wacom with a broken pen, and I've really only been working with Flash for a year. I'm not even very good at drawing, though I've improved since I decided last year to learn. But when I work on a project, I sleep five to zero hours every night and work from bed to back until it's complete. And I was doing this for Newgrounds before there was ever any prospect of monetary involvement.

Anyway, it's far from my place to say whether or not I feel I deserved a prize in this contest, but I do feel that I deserved the opportunity to compete. I think that everyone who made it into the contest earned it, even the new RAB cartoon, which does not, despite everyone's apparent expectations, have a massive studio of hundreds of trained artists working on it.

Not too late to change your mind... *ahem*

In all honesty Tom, the Halloween prizes were remarkably generous, and the fact that you thought Blockhead was worthy of 4th place and $500 is very, very awesome of you. I promise that I am not at all disappointed, only thrilled! You probably just made sure that my family will get gifts this Christmas, haha.

But if by some chance I place in the monthly top 5, then I will stop hating you forever :D

Thanks, Tom!

P.S. - I don't want to check now and risk losing what I've typed so far, but the last time I looked, Blockhead 8 hadn't been added to the series page yet. Those poor, poor fans :(

omg why din mien win???

Actually, I rather enjoyed the winners. I am thrilled to see that Gybrush Threepwood of Monkey Island was a winning character in one of the submissions.

On the side, I think this is a great thing you NG dudes are doing for the forum and for the site in general. Drawing programs can be much more affordable for the average visitor than Flash, and it really gives everyone an opportunity to be included.

Who knows, maybe P-Bot will have the company of a Still-Art Bot some day.
