for now, just try using the mannequin outline. would help a lot in making the posture, poses and proportions look right. then go for smaller details like hair, eyes, nose, ear, mouth, clothingm and shading. when doing these things, watch for placement and the way loose items, like clothes and hair, falls. make sure it all flows and obeys the laws of gravity (to a certain extent, depending on hairstyle).
