8-bit chiptunes style music
This track is my first chiptune ever. It's old, but I'm looking for more opinions on it because I'm looking to see if I should go "back to my roots," so to speak. To date, it's been used in more stuff than any other track of mine.

I have noticed the occasional sour note.
Y'know, I always wonder when I visit the audio portal: why does the gradient on the 0-5 rating scale go from red to green to yellow? Doesn't it usually go red yellow green?

I was productive once. It was awful.

I have a good feeling about this one, looking forward to your opinions!

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that out.

MilkyTracker is multiplatform (Linux, BSD, AmigaOS, Win, OSX) plus it has somewhat crappy supports of VSTi and MIDI i/o. FastTracker is Win only (with DOS emulated).
I see. So does FastTracker have better VSTi and MIDI support?
Also, new topic question; do any of you guys have a favorite artist, or can you name someone or even just a song with a unique and interesting style?

BFP has a time machine.
Also, count my vote for resurrecting the instrument request thread. I'd probably use it.
Ugh, I hate April Fools Day... I decided to try to troll on Facebook so I posted a status about how I was giving up on my hopes and dreams to become a gas station clerk. The only people who responded to it were family members that I hardly ever get to see, and they were all concerned and offering me a place to stay and stuff.
I feel like such an asshat.

That right there is probably the main reason I love them so much. Not only are they all kinds of fun, they can be useful. I'm not really into all that spiritualism stuff, but when I'm on shrooms I understand it a lot better. There's this mental clarity that you get which allows you to reflect on yourself, your life, and those around you, and, coupled with the euphoric rush it can really open you up to positive thinking.

Fuckin' mushies, man. Not to be done in excess, but saved for special occasions. Most fun I've ever had on anything. Hell, if the conditions are right, they can really pick you up and change your life for the better.
You know there have been multiple studies confirming psilocybin as an effective anti-depressant? If my 5-HT receptors could salivate they'd be doing so right now.

For general composition I use Renoise and OpenMPT because both can access VSTi and DXi. If you like oldskool 4 channel then get Fast tracker.
I thought MilkyTracker was based on FastTracker II, wasn't it? Is there much of a difference?

Some err, pretty decent sites are http://woolyss.com/chipmusic-hardware.php
Also, try to open your eyes for cheap old PC on eBay. Chances are you can get a cheap C64 for less than $70. SID chips are valuable.

Alrighty then, I'll try not to be so timid the next time I come up with something worthy of its own thread, haha.

Rucklo

jarrydn
Thanks for the advice! To be honest I was more concerned with creating a BBS-clogging failure of a thread than actually breaking the rules, since making said thread didn't seem to be against any of the rules I read.

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret: I have a massive boner LSDJ! It's got this really nice and quick workflow without needing to learn a bazillion keyboard shortcuts.
LSDJ seems awesome, I just wish I had a Game Boy I could fiddle with. I suppose I could try it with an emulator, but it just wouldn't feel the same, haha.
Also I just went and listened to a bunch of your stuff and I've gotta say you're pretty fucking good at this. In fact, hearing your LSDJ endeavors makes me want to hop on eBay and buy a Game Boy or two. Maybe in time...
Although I suppose I could try to emulate that type of sound in MilkyTracker. I've tried before but haven't been able to get very close to the authentic sound a real Game Boy makes.
Thanks for the input, man!

Personally I look forward to trying to tackle the song in 16-bit, Mega Man X style.
I've got some studying to do before I'll be confident enough to try it, though!

Cool beans, I was just worried about making a whole new thread for it because as far as I know it's somewhat of a niche genre in the musical community.
So does anyone have experience with trackers, like FamiTracker, MilkyTracker, FastTracker, etc? Or even LSDJ?
I've been using MilkyTracker for a little while now but I haven't really improved because I have nobody to talk to about it, and I've been having a lot of trouble fishing for constructive criticism wherever I go with my music.
If someone wants to send me something they've made with one of these types of programs I'd love to take a look and discuss it with them.

You end up like this guy and the girls leave to have hot dirty lesbian sex for hours, then decide to go steady with each other.

Disregard that last question. User stats, 18. I completely suck at newgrounds now. My highschool only had a 9-12 program. When you say "my school" do you mean that younger kids are getting tossed into the bunch or are you referring to an older school you went to? Half of me would think it kind of risky to put the younger kids in with the older kids yet at the same time, maybe it would help bond the ranks and diminish bullying. I know that if I saw a kid from middle school getting bullied by an older kid I'd be the first to say something...
I'm obviously not the person you're asking, but there are schools that do this. My school was kindergarten through 12th grade, but that was because there were only a total of 300 students, and splitting them up into different buildings wouldn't have been very economical. There was the occasional fucked up shit that happened, but it was actually pretty peaceful 99% of the time. Older kids generally didn't bother younger kids because they never really considered it worth the trouble. Then again it was a small town, so everyone sort of knew each other anyway.
Wanna hear what a drunken chiptune artist shits out???
