Topic: how many whistle blows until...

Posted: 09/01/08 10:22 AM

Forum: Where is / How to?

wow talk about taking something and changing it.

liljim said this

Whistle points aren't displayed anywhere - not on the mod pages, not even on the administration pages.

So that means they just are not displayed.

Never did he say anything about knowing the number whistle points or anything like that

You sure seem to like a liberty with the whole whistle system.

I seen many say they figured bronze out before, most seem to come up with the same number.

After that It all BS....that right BS.

Mostly because the whole system works with gaining and losing points.

THIS IS ONLY EXAMPLE ANYONE WHO READS THIS AS ANYTHING ELSE IS STUPID FOR NOT SEEING THIS TEXT BEFORE IT!

even if you were a new user and say you flagged 50 reviews there no guarantee all those review get deleted.

So based on that EXAMPLE some one could claim 50 was the wrong number right away If one of their flags got cleared.

OK EXAMPLE OVER!

Whistle point will never be in your profile. I would almost guarantee it will never happen

Please do not go posting numbers to what you speculate as the amount to get a certain whistle
Cause I saw the numbers in that other topic and I would say I'm almost surprised liljim did lol at that.

Instead focusing on whistle points.

Why not focus on what realyl should matter helping remove abusive reviews.

1) Marriage stopped being an institution of the Church centuries ago. A mayor can do it, a judge can do it, a captain of a ship at sea can do it...etc. Given enough time and effort, anyone can become licensed to marry a couple, church or no church.

2) Why not let GLBT couples be as miserable as everyone else (as a Texan governor candidate named Kinky politely pointed out)?

3) Most of the reasons I have seen for opposition to gay marriage is for religious reasons. Do I need to remind the church that they aren't the only ones who can marry people?

4) Civil Unions only solve the problem on the state level. There are still many rights on the Federal level that a gay couple can be denied.

Mofomojo, you do provide some very compelling points.

I agree with most of it, save one major area. I would hardly call the views I expressed outdated. Notice the rise of fundamentalism in the US, and how they act like the barbarians are battering down the gates every time their beliefs are questioned?

The same is true of politicians. The Democrats claim that the Republicans have failed miserably and the Republicans claim the Democrats are in the way.

So no, the notions I had given apply as truly now as they ever have.

Topic: One problem that is overlooked

Posted: 01/28/06 12:28 AM

Forum: Politics

To elaborate on a possible solution, I copied and pasted a post I made on Ex-Christian.net. All I am giving you is my honest view. What you think is up to you entirely. If you disagree, I won't even take offense, for the simple reason that disagreement is seldom done in malice.

In my experience I find there are three types of Dogma.

Dogma is that nasty little thing that people try to define their beliefs by, and so rather than thinking it out, they simply point to a particular set of beliefs and say "There you go."

The three types of Dogma:

I. Religious- The most obvious sort of Dogma. Examples include the various religions.

II. Political - This one isn't much of a surprise either. People divide themselves as Democrats, Republicans, Independent, or other. Other examples of dogma include socialism, capitalism, communism, etc. This can often be almost indistinguishable from religious dogma, with the sole distinction being in the motive of the two.

III. Cultural Dogma: Many people I have talked to are surprised that i would call this a separate Dogma. Many often consider Cultural dogma and religious dogma one category. And while it is true that religion often influences culture, the two retain a wholly separate identity. Remember, the US is in a culture of fear. US politicos would use fear to scare people into voting for them.

The problem with Dogma: It prevents freethought by rendering it a "bad" thing. It makes questioning the tenets unconscionable. A solution to this would take generations to bring forth, but it is possible.

Solutions-

I) First, there must be an allowance for free discussion, without fear of offending someone. The PC (Political Correctness) era makes this an almost monumental task, as more people are scared of offending someone in the US.

II. Once the above is done, Show that questioning is not inherently evil. People must first be free to question, and to do so boldly. Once a dialogue is open, more solutions emerge.

I think in order to break the cycle, this would be a good first step. By ending the influence of dogma, you effectively limit the influence religion, politicians etc., have over you.

Myabe it is just me, but with all the hype about terrorists, Video games, and other things "that are enemies to the US," everyone is overlooking the most obvious enemy of all:

Our own politicians.

I remember a most important lesson in Political Science 101: Government is a necessary evil at best, and at worst a cruel and petty tyrant.

In my opinion, the people doing more damage to America than any terrorists could well be our own politicians, polarized in an attempt to regain power for themselves, and failing to see the big picture?

Gay marriage contributing to the downfall of society? HAH

Video games " "" "': HAH!

Violence in the media?: DOUBLE HAH!!

Okay, let's see here: Both parties tend to use excuses to give them carte blanche to do what they wish. For the Democrats it is "For the Children" and for the Republicans it is "9/11."

Me? I propose a different sort of politics, one based on pragmatism (for the people) instead of party ideology. Let's look at what works and is Constitutional and go from there. In other words, let's cut the BS and get to the matters at hand.

You Xians in the place may find the above two links enlightening.

The reality of it all: The quote is true. "The zealots only care about the child until birth, then don't give a damn until it starts to have sex."

The point? That they are so concerned with other people's sins that they forget about their own teachings.

"Let he without sin cast the first stone."

"Remove the beam from thine eye before worrying about the speck in his?"

Recognize these sayings?

I recommend the Jeffersonian approach: Remove the entire Old Testament. Yes, all of it. It is dehumanizing, degrading, and demeaning. While we're at it, remove the writings of Paul and anything not directly related to Christ, and yes that includes that insipid book of Revelations (writings of a madman, those).

You will find those writings a bit more helpful.

The grim reality of the matter: Republicans and Democrats engage in that sort of behavior alike. With Republicans, though, it was more about stealing signs and vandalizing cars with bumper stickers.

Point is, the Dems and Repubs are two sides of the same coin. Two groups who are so polarized that as long as they are in power, there is no way in hell this country will ever get back in shape.

Posted: 01/12/06 10:38 PM

Forum: Politics

jlwelch:

Tell me you didn't just post a link to NARTH...

Those idiots are widely discredited by almost every major medical organization.

Both APAs have studies that widely discredit what NARTH is doing, and even the AMA states very clearly that what NARTH does only serves to endanger the homosexuals even more.

http://www.apa.org

http://www.ama.org

I am pro-choice, not necessarily pro-abortion. I remember a story of a 14 year old girl who couldn't get an abortion without parental consent. Just one problem: her father was also the child's father.

Given that 75% of sexual abuse happens within the family, the above scenario is much more common than many people are comfortable with. On top of this, you would probably claim that they should put kids up for adoption.

Haha...NO. Recent cases all over the US indicate that for the most part: children who are put up for adoption never are. This may seem cruel to you, but being able to provide a life that a person can live, and not having the child end up miserable is a mercy.

One more thing: Until the end of the first trimester, the "child" is just a bundle of cells.

Topic: gay gene abortions!?

Posted: 01/11/06 12:49 AM

Forum: Politics

My two cents on the matter go like this:

1) Homosexuality is not a choice. Look up the more recent studies done by the American Psychological Association and the American Psychiatric Association, and they will tell you the exact same thing. I believe the URL is as follows:

http://www.apa.org

2) No, I don't believe people should have the right to abort a child over the gay gene, given its recessive nature, for the most part, they tend to be heterosexual, so there is no way of knowing that a child is homosexual until actual childbirth. If it were the case of rape or incest, or if the mother's life was in danger, that would be a different story.

I am pro-choice, for the simple reason that as a man, I have no right to make a decision of such nature for a woman. Nor do the scared old white men in Congress, or a bunch of preachers who only think God was pro-life (look up the Bible. There are verses where Xians cut out a child from the womb and dash their heads on rocks. Look it up in the book of Moses.)

Or, you could do what the Console makers are doing with their newest models and simply render him irrelevant by placing parental controls on the console.

Topic: Why do people hate the USA?

Posted: 12/26/05 12:38 AM

Forum: Politics

The US has a long and very illustrious history of bungling foreign affairs. The below is only the more recent examples.

Korea in the late '40s-early 50's.

Cuba in the 50's and 60's

Latin America in the 1970s (Many Latin-American dictators graduated from the School of the Americas and were taught by us)

Afghanistan and Iraq in the 1980's (who put Saddam in power? We did)

In the 1990's we began to reap the consequences of too much meddling in the form of the Persian Gulf and the loss of pro-American governments in Latin America.

Of course, in the new millenium, the US has started to pay the price for arrogance. After all, the US played a role in putting Bin Laden into power and even in his training.

To be fair, the US has done some things right. The US played a key role in rebuilding Japan and South Korea, not to mention doing what they could for Germans in the aftermath of WWII. The US has helped out a lot in disaster relief and is among the largest donors of foreign aid.

What the US needs to realize is that democracy, by itself, is not a panacea. It alone will not solve the problems of the world. Stability, proper establishment, and diplomacy are also essential. Democracy, at least successful democracy, cannot be forced. It takes time, effort and energy to be effective.

The parents could have prevented it. One of them saw a sawed-off shotgun on the dresser of one of the shooters, but did nothing.

Marilyn Manson and Doom (the PC Game) were just convenient scapegoats to where the true responsibility lied: those who knew what they were about to do but did nothing to stop it.

Those two broke 16 gun laws when they went in there. 16! Gun laws did jack to prevent them from shooting up the place.

Does this make people think? If so, then I did my job.

My view on ID:

ID's main arguments, it seems to me, is basically "A higher power created life here. Trust me."

They offer no evidence, no tests (you can't test this theory). In fact, a lot of what is offered tends to take the form of religious dogma, which strikes me as Creationism in a pseudoscientific package.

As an untestable theory, this has no place in a science classroom. Evolution at least has a ton of evidence behind it.

Simply put, the cowards who commit rape do it as a power thing...

I have a very close friend who was a rape victim who was also sexually abused by a Baptist priest. They did it for the power and the control. They did it frankly because they could.

Priests who do it usually use a technique of neutralization:

http://home.comcast...ime/sykes_matza.html

You will find that at least four out of five of these are used by rapists.

Also, remember that rape against men is among the most underreported of crimes (50 unreported for every one reported, if my memory serves me correctly).

Topic: Videogames cause violence???

Posted: 12/24/05 12:46 AM

Forum: Politics

Okay, here is the clincher:

Where is a kid going to get the $40-$50 dollars to buy a game? From an allowance? Or from a parent who is just eager to get the kid off their backs about it?

That being said, the parent need not have the kid with him to buy the game. So how is a cashier to know who the game is for except from the parent? There is a lot more to it...

Don't forget that violence has been blamed by (in no particular order): Radio, Rock music, Swaying of hips, Marilyn Manson, Gangsta rap, movies, Eminem, Metal music, Country music, women showing more than their ankles, Communism, Socialism...

See where I am getting at? The point is that anytime there is a major change in scene, there will always be those looking to use anything new as a scapegoat. Once the fuss dies down, so too will the debate.
