Will we get reviews from other judges as well? So far I only have one from RealFaction.
Congrats to all the winners and runners up. To all people who didn't become runner up, kuddos for your effort and better luck next time. Thanks RealFaction for organizing this.

We've still got a little over 24 hours left right? I wanted to finish my song today, but it's lacking something... Talent probably.

It's like the Flappy Bird parodies only in the movies section...like the new "thing"....nothing original, nothing funny. I'm downvoting them but I'm not a jerk for that because I think it's entirely moronic to recreate some trailer scene and then EVERYONE does it. What I don't like about NG is that 60-70% of the famous animators here now are unoriginal...sigh.....am I horrible? Idk?
They're rather boring I must say. Though I like the principle how everyone does the same thing but in their own way. It always makes me curious how [insert talented animator] executes [insert current hype]. I'm not downvoting anything, but they usualy get one (sometimes two) star(s) less than they would've gotten when they were original. Same goes for Madness or sprite videos. Originality plays a role.
Perhaps I can be of help.
Here are some songs that may capture the mood, though they’re a bit outdated:

Here's the commercial you're talking about
@FairSquare Yeah Mich found it. Gaviscon, that's the product I was looking for. I just thought it was an interesting advert.

Strepsils was with the idiot who swallowed a circular saw and then complained about having throat ache. It was a commercial like that though. I thaught it was called schaviscom or something, but I don't know how to spell it.

RAC - i have no idea.
MAC - could use revamping, as it kinda just fizzled out.
FL Core - gone for years.
NGADM - still going strong, but its annual and not due for a while.
Clabtrap - should be on again this year at some point but i know nothing about it.
AIM - going right now isnt it? so yeah
@Bosa - Sup dude werent you gonna make a hella big contest?
Halloween - still happens every year
I feel like I'm forgetting one but yeah theres plenty to look forward to. Probably some random person will make some random contest with random prizes at some random point too, so there's always that as well.
Thanks for notifying me about the AIM. Going to participate again. Also the 11th of April is the deadline for the scorebit contest. I don't have the adres at hand, but anyone who's interested can google it or browse through the audio forum. One of the contests you din't mention is NGMT by SkyeWintrest. I hope that one will still be around in 2014. There's also Robotday, Madnessday, Clockday, Christmas and such. I remember there being a contest where each contestant had to represent a country and make a song with said country as theme. That was the RAC right? I don't think we had that in 2013. Perhaps that's dropped as well. I hope it will be re-introduced. The MAC isn't exactly monthly anymore. The last one was the 8-bit contest which started exactly a year ago today. The video BPremo would make of the winner's (8Bitster) song would be finnished in februari BPremo told me, but I haven't seen it yet. Should be finished soon I guess...
Yeah! I was looking forward to this. Should we call dibs on an art piece? That's what I did last year, but still other people made songs about the same piece, so it didn't really work. Anyway, I don't really know yet what art I want to go for.
When are there going to be audio competitions again? It's been a while...
It's a good idea to show what you've done before to get new people on board. Can you give us a link to your previous work, or upload it to your profile?
Also note the theme for the open round will only be announced on the 3rd of may, so you can't say who or what you need before that time. Last time one of the rounds had a theme where you had to pick one or more out of 4 different songs to use in your animation, so you couldn't very well ask for an additional composer..
No you're right. You shouldn't start before the 3rd of may, but it's a good idea to be prepared, get your team, gear and stuff together. I'm sure there isn't a rule against that. Neither is there a rule to start practicing before the competition starts, else everyone who ever made an animation before wouldn't be able to enter. Just make sure not to publish or share "early versions" of your eventual submission before the 3rd of may, or else you will indeed be disqualified. Just a friendly reminder. Good luck to you mate! Perhaps I'll be interested to make music for your project. You can check out my music, I'll check out your animations.
At 2/9/14 06:02 PM, SoundChris wrote: What does "3 - layered" mean? Can anybody describe /translate it for me? :D
I'm not a 100% percent sure but I think it has to do with the interactiveness of the song. e.g. some games have 3 different versions of the same loop. the 1st one is quiet and atmospheric and plays when nothing special is going on. The second one is in sync with the 1st, but is a more suspenseful version of the 1st. When you near enemies the 1st loop fades into the 2nd, to let the player know he/she has to be on guard. The 3rd loop is also in sync with the first two loops, but this time it's an action driven version of the song. As soon as the enemies start to attack you the 2nd loop fades into the third. When all of the enemies are dead, the 3rd loop fades into the 1st. I hope the OP tells us if this is what's meant.
Btw sometimes the audio tracks for games are cut into samples and the loops don't transit from one to another by means of fades, but by more sophisticated means, such as breaks or fills, and the timing is in such a way it does'nt mess up the rhythm, of the song. Kind of what you can do with the accompanying styles on a keyboard.
Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I Always wondered; where can I find BPremo's animation to 8Bitster's winning song? That was the reward right?

Yeah, I just uploaded the present for midimachine. I don't plan to upload the song I made for Jernemies until I think it's finished and I can't improve it any further. I'd be happy to receive some feedback on that song about what's good and bad about it, and how to go on with it. Thanks for making this playlist.

Somehow it was a difficult song, and I wasn't able to do everything I had planned. This is version 0.5. I Will finish the song and let you hear it when I have version 1.0 or even 1.1 or 1.2. It didn't turn out as funky as I planned. In the mean time you can listen to this song I made earier and took a little more time for. It's at least more funky, and it has classical and metal instruments.
Ow btw way @Jernemies I wanted to send you this link when I said you could listen to a song I made earlier that took a little more time and sounded more funky, and has both classical and metal instruments. I hope it makes sense now.
btw I'll listen to the other songs tomorrow. I'm really interested in hearing the other songs, but I had too many obligations, you know. It's that time of the year. Merry Christmas to everyone.
@Knoxius Thanks for the song. Very beautiful and mysterious. I enjoyed it a lot. It made me curious about the other music you make, so I'll bre checking that out later.

@midimachine I'm sorry you didn't get anything from the person who was supposed to make something for you. I hope you will get your song soon. In the mean time I wish this is a passable substitution. I tried to make it not sound like a video game song, but some people say all my songs sound like video game songs. Oh well,at least enjoy it.
@Stupor Thanks again for this. Until next year (or sooner).
Congrats to all the winners and other participants! Good job hosting and judging for this contest as well!

Yes. I'm addicted to cheese, but that's no reason to stuff all of my songs with it.

"Genres" are created AFTER music has been made and they're created by people trying to define what that music is. It's simply putting labels on things.
The first rock and roll was "blues" and only later became known as what it is today.
That's the truth I believe. I also heard "Rocket 88" by Ike Turner was the first rock and roll song although at the time it was created as a blues (& jazz) song. I Always wondered if that was at all accurate. In any case I think it takes several songs of comparable style before people put a new label on it.
It seems sometimes a new genre name is created by producers or musicians who want to hike a hitch of the succes of other popular musicians. Like several musicians have a somewhat similar sound that becomes very popular. Other musicians give it a new name, and say they make music of the "same genre", instead of saying they flat out copy popular musicians. I think the advertising of a genre by musicians and producers is an important factor for whether a genre catches on or not.
Still it's fun to talk about "inventing a genre" even if it doesn't really work that way. Remember when Cabbster invented the "homosexual orchestral music with gay fairy sound effects" after the results of Bosa's Dreams of Splendor competition?
At 2/5/13 02:13 AM, Cabbster wrote: Lol what a biased whack piece of shit competition. Congrats on not telling us that your fetish is homosexual orchestral music with gay fairy sound effects. Peace out faggot. Waste of my time.
I wish that genre would've caught on.
I don't have that problem. I Always have to keep working on a song until it's finished. Often the end result is completely different from what I had at the start though. I'm kind of like a painter with a canvas. When after a while they don't like something they've started, they don't throw away the canvas (because it's expensive) but they paint something else over it. I delete or change parts I don't like, but Always keep on going until the end is something I (somewhat) like. Then I have to upload it. Coe to think of it; At the moment I have 2 unfinished songs, that I just forgot about. I wanted to finish them but I had to work on something else all of a sudden. I should finish them someday. Also there are a few songs I've finished but later weren't content with anymore. I change them if I have the time, but often I don't get around to work on old projects, and I just leave them like that.
In the Netherlands we have chocolate and fruit hail for on your sandwitch.
