This is really poor business practice on his end I really wish he'd just be more mature about this because it's causing way more trouble than there needs to be.
That's a good idea, and I'll be getting right on that. Does anyone know of ways to warn musicians, voice actors, and programmers as well? I know quite a lot of them will glaze over this warning since it only seems to focus on artist's experiences, and I don't want to cross post this thread onto the other forums since this thread already exists.
I enjoy coming to the NG Art and Collab forums pretty frequently, usually to lurk, but occasionally those "Artist Needed (paid)" threads will show up, and as you all know they tend to be pretty legit with a few obvious exceptions here and there.
Back in February, I was quite a bit more lenient about what jobs I attempted to take. One of which was one by, and I know you've seen his threads, Mayor Pixel. I've been "working" for him since early February, and as of recently I realized just how much damage he could potentially do. I've written up a pretty detailed account of my experiences working with him (as well as one other artist) here: http://slogbait.tumblr.com/post/89034342413/
Just be careful, because I know he's constantly trying to recruit people (not just artists) for various projects, ESPECIALLY on here, and if things don't go his way it can lead to a hot fucking mess. Luckily, he's become more transparent and more accounts of working with and interacting with him are becoming more frequent, so it's likely there won't be nearly as many issues like this in the future. Still, I feel it necessary to warn as many people as possible, so no one risks doing work and never getting the compensation you were promised once it's all said and done.
I rarely post on NGBBS, and as far as I know this isn't breaking any rules, so in the event this does violate a rule or this just isn't the appropriate place to be posting it, do what needs to be done.

Trying to simplify my work since I prefer it over the more complex and detailed works you generally see, and I've already got a good hold on that anyways.
Trying to train myself to be very flexible, so I appeal to a larger variety of people.
Trying to quicken my pace. The faster I work while still retaining good results, the better.
Trying to improve my perspective. Very unhappy with how boring my compositions end up. My environmental pieces don't have nearly enough depth for my liking.
Eye placement isn't actually the issue here given the style. Perspective is, however, and that makes the entire face seem off.
First things first: lay off the airbrush. I can't tell what the focal point is supposed to be, though I'm assuming it's Twilight.
Eyes have a lot of very clean edges. The pupil is a literal hole in the iris, and should stand out as such. If you're trying to emulate the style of the show, you want nothing but hard edges. Solid black, solid purple, solid white highlights. If you want the style seen in the example you gave, it's the exact same. Solid colours, hard edges. You can experiment with this, of course, but you're not going to get either style down well with soft edges and blurring.
Practice drawing eyes. All eyes. Any eyes. Learn to simplify them, and then incorporate them into your works to your will.

You've certainly got a lot of work ahead of you. What program do you use to draw in?
I highly suggest studying contours (which will help you with lineart and the outlines of objects in general) and form (which will help you with seeing objects in three dimensions, therefore improving your ability to "shade" and texture an image) on and off for the time being. The better understanding you have of these, the more it shows in your work. When you feel you've got a good grasp of them, start fiddling around with perspective (which will give your work more atmosphere and depth). Also, the longer you draw, the better your pen control becomes, so keep at it.
Try to avoid using certain default brushes like "grass" and "leaves". You'll learn much better and faster if you stick to bare bones at the start. Also, make sure the initial sketch is very strong (and accurate to what you're envisioning) before you begin to render. Without a strong foundation, the entire building will collapse with ease. The same applies to everything else.
Also, one of the most important tips of all: Study from life!
This just means be very observant of what you see. If you have a sketchbook lying around, pull it out and draw something close to you. Make it as accurate to the item as you physically can. If you notice something off about it, just ask other people what they think.
Good luck!
I'm running out of places to promote my friend's work, but he just released his first album a little over a week ago and seems skeptical of the NG Audio portal so I don't think he'll ever be using it.
If you could give it a shot, he produces primarily EDM.
A few ideas for this popped up the second I read the requirements, ahaha.
I'll draw them up when I'm done killing myself with contest entries.
xTY3x, hands down. I almost didn't submit mine because I knew I wouldn't stand a chance against that.

Oh. Right. It's name is "Xicarct".

Oh, I am definitely working on an entry for this.
So, this definitely isn't the best, but I thought some kind of contribution is better than none.
I've always liked the taste of sand, like sandbox sand. Yeah, the poisonous crap. Of course, I don't eat it [very often] anymore.
I'll try and make a part, lol. With any luck I might actually complete it.
Personally I always had a thing for Regina from Dino Crisis. However, I haven't played it in AGES so I don't really know anymore.
"Do you know why women have legs?"
"So they can walk?"
"No, so they don't leave a snail trail. Stupid."
Sorry there's no way I'm going to be able to finish mine. Too much came up and I can't find the time to work on it. I'm dropping out.
I changed up the story board a bit. Anything I could fix? Once I'm done with the actual animation itself I'm going to change the pencil.
I'm still working on mine, just a heads up. I don't want to give another preview until I at least fix up a couple more frames. D:
I'm still working on my bit. :)
Earthworm Jim for the Genesis.
Ah... good times, goooood times.
Hmmmm... It's a tie between Scrabania from Oddworld, Land of the Livid Dead from Rayman 3, or the Desert World from Croc.
I was considering the Desert of the Knaaren, but as much as I love desert climates, I don't want to piss myself every two seconds because another Knaaren is trying to rip my eyes out.
