Topic: 16 Bit Emulation On Windows Xp ?

Posted: 01/13/06 10:46 AM

Forum: Programming

I have a P2 200, i use it all the time to program and play old games. one big advantage is those very low resolutions that newer systems dont like or dont support. or thos eodd ball resolutions like 300 x 256 that some games used back then.

If you want to go ahead with ur plan with two OS's, MS makes a program called Virtual PC which lets u run two OS's at the same time, i recommend windows 95, its 100% less buggy then 98 and supports the same windows drivers. 95 was the first true graphical OS (3.1 was just an operating environment like the Xwindows system in linux) and it supports DOS very nicely, you can even boot to dos if you want very easily (its in the damn shutdown menu lol).

good luck with that. I can always sell u an old PC for those old games if u actually lived near me heh.

Topic: Hardware issue

Posted: 01/13/06 10:39 AM

Forum: Programming

"Hard drives generally last 5 to 7 years" straight from my hardware text book. Irony, lets see, your HD blew in 3 years, my friends brand new HD blew in 1 year, and I just sold a PC with a 10 year old HD that was still working fine. it was a 1 gig. not even a bad cluster on it. the HD in my old 1997 computer lasted till earily 2005 or 8 years, and it didn't die, but it was giving my problems (80% of the time during boot up, a message would come up saying i possibly had bad clusters and neede dto do surface scan, it would never find any) so i replaced it. i still have it and as far as i know it still works.

Conclusion

They just don't make them like they used to.

Topic: Random flash script

Posted: 01/12/06 12:24 PM

Forum: Flash

Can someone tell me the actionscript to do a random number and make a choice based on it

This is what im doing:

I'm making the Splash page of a website, and id like it to each time it loads, run a random and based on the random, go to the proper frame.

So does flash actionscript have a random function? i assume so..

and some sort of switch statement to make the choice so i can jump to the right frame.

I plan for 3 different splashes, im sure once i see the code i can figure out how to change it for more splashes.

Assistence anyone? im really bad at understanding flash tutorials so just the code to do it would be fine, a random number and a switch statement to figure out the number and go to the correct frame.

Posted: 11/29/05 02:44 PM

Forum: General

DId you know this game still exists, its been since 1998 and is still going, any of you that own the game should come back some time, and any of you that left moderatly recently, steve has left, (woohooo!)

If you dont know how to come back, thats because zone is hiding the lobby now, so here is how to get to it, open a browser window

go to http://www.zone.msn.com

sign in to ur passport, then, paste this link in the window u just signed in to

classic.zone.msn.com/asp/roomlist.asp?game
=mtm2

with an http://classic.(etc) start of, i cut it like this here so u can see the whole link

once u paste that in, when u get to the lobby, ur in, have fun, on average there is still about 30-40 people still around. and there is other stuff too including a new monster truck game in the making, and shadowprincess tournaments http://www.shadowprincess.com http://www.mtm2.com

So check it out folks, we still have fun there

Why am i posting this, to raise awareness, mtm2 is not dead, it is still around, and its funner than ever (purly cause most of the cheaters have left finally)

ive heard lots of these rummers and there is stuff in articles everywhere, but its not like MS to recall a console, more than likely they will sell a $100+ upgrade to it to fix the problems and those with worse problems such as failed hard disks will just have to bite the bullet and live with it

if u've tried all ive said, then either the computer repair store, or try a reformat

for you with the bad ram, im not sure if failing ram for sure causes errors cause i have used an older PC, after a year when i got it, on of the sticks started to fail and it would only run at half capacity, but it would boot at full, so the ram would just get dumped once in awhile, it caused funny effects in games but nothing really serious.... but perhaps windows 95 was just more robust about crap like that
