Topic: End smoking in ALL public places?

Posted: 05/26/05 09:44 AM

Forum: Politics

What purpose does alcohol serve? What purpose does fried chicken serve? How about soft drinks? What purpose does coffee, and tea, serve? To what purpose does fried pork strive towards? How about pot? What 'useful' purpose does that serve?

Most of those mentioned above do not harm other people. Smoking does. A smoker in a public place smoking could cause potential damage.

Look at all the tradgedies that alcohol serves. From innocents run down by drunk drivers, to families ruined by alcoholism. Is alcohol pure in virtue? Does alcohol contribute towards the 'greater good'? No.

I'm kinda against alcohol, although I do drink a little myself! =P

And look at fried foods. America stuffs their face with everything from bacon, to deep fried crab meat. Where's the greater good, in that? Does coffee benefit your health? Does it save lives? Does it feed the hungry, and shelter the homeless? Does it promote world peace? No.

But the person eating the food or drinking the coffee only harms themselves. Smoking can potentially harm those around.

Just get over it. We're all killing ourselves, in some indirect way. I smoke. You eat bacon
I'm a vegetarian meself.

Yes, cars are more of a hazard to what we breathe in. But they serve a useful purpose for everyone.

Honestly, what useful purpose does smoking have?

Topic: Ban Hoodies!

Posted: 05/26/05 08:21 AM

Forum: Politics

The reason they do it is because it makes them too hard to identify on security cameras. For example, not everyone who carries a shotgun around is going to shoot someone, but you're still not supposed to be carrying them around.

Oh please, so you can walk in wearing a balaclava, but not a hoodie? You can enter wearing a thick coat with a hood but you can't wear a hoodie? You can enter wearing a wooly hat but not a baseball cap?

For this rule to be fully implicated and be without fault - then they'd have to make sure that at ALL times no-one's face is not seen on CCTV

Well if you see his face you might be able to identify him later. And besides, this is about them keeping their faces hidden from CCTV cameras, not mugging victims.

If it was, then they'd probably ban trainers as it makes potential criminals run faster.

Take the fucking hoodie when you're inside the fucking store-- so simple. It shows you have some fucking class too.
It does? How?

It makes identifying faces a quicker process for cops, and if you're outraged because you want to look cool in the mall. You know what? It's not fucking cool. It's so fucking uber-dorky lame that there isn't an expletive for this. Let me make one up. You're a fucking h00die. Yes folks.
I like to wear hoodies, does that make me a criminal? I wear them because they are comfy, not because I look 'cool'.

Lesson learnt: Hoodies are h00dies. In other words, uber lame.
Thanks for enforcing your fashion sense on us.

Its better than the whole only 2 kids in a store at a time. Backpacks and bags are banned in some stores, how are hoodies any different?
The 2 only kids in the store thing is only existant in small shops, Backpacks and bags are usually banned in small stores because they take up room. Hoodies are just worn, they don't clog up anything!

Look at it like this: They sell pantyhose in malls, right? But, are you allowed to wear one over your head, in public? In Virginia, it's a misdemeanor to wear a mask (or anything like a mask) in public.
I don't see any law against it here - but it'd look rather stupid. You have a law against wearing masks in public? Woah..

Or, how about this: You can buy baseballs bats at a mall. But can you walk around brandishing a bat at people, in public?
You're allowed to hold one here. But then, you're not allowed really to throw hoodies around in the public either..

If you really lived here, you'd know the real unspoken issue of the ban is the nations fear of chavs.

In that case, I presume the shopping malls banning hoodies and baseball caps will not be selling them in any of their shops, right?

I know, why don't they take it a step further!?
Ban Coats because they have many pockets and people can sneak items into them!
Ban Trainers because they make potential criminals run faster!
Ban Long Hair because long hair covers the face of potential criminals!

Tsch. John Prescott feeling threatened!? XD
