Should I animate in 1s or 2s for the effects? ect

Okay, lets see.

First off I'd suggest this book "Elemental Magic: the art of special effects animation". It's a great book, It's a necessity for those really interested in quality effects frame by frame animation.

Now to some extra advice:
Animate the final effects on ones: Because your effects have to be snappy & fluid. Fire never stands still & electricity sure as hell isnt slow. You want power & energy in those drawings.

Avoid parallels & symmetry: It will give a boring and unreal feel, fire usually has one side that goes higher & the other lower where the high flame basicly gulfs & breaks off beginning the progress on the other side. (Due to cooling, heating, wind. Physics! )

Thats all I can give you, I truly recommend obtaining the book one way or another.

Unless the collab succeeds in being able to accept Macromedia Flash MX files, I can't help out. Want to though. :P

I'm pretty sure they will seeing they are also accepting non-flash entries.
Just send a message to lalo to ask I'd suggest and start working. :)

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE OFFICIAL THREAD CAN BE FOUND HERE. I'M NOT THE ORGANISOR OF THIS COLLAB: LALO IS.
I'M MERELY POSTING THIS HERE TO BRING IT INTO ATTENTION.

------------
Hey y'all! Here's the gist of the collab:

We make our own sheep jumping the fence, and put them all together in a video with music, or a game, or an app. We will have the most beautiful compilation of sheeps on the internet. The viewer's role is obviously to count them until they get sleepy. Our role is to animate them until we DIE.

Seriously though, this is a great chance to freshen up your animation skills: walking cycles, anticipation, all that jazz, and to have fun!

RULES & RECCOMENDATIONS
- Make a sheep, or a something in sheep costume, or something that resembles a sheep, and creatively move it from one side of the (provided) stage to the other.
- Gravity points down.
- Sheep can come in more than one piece.
- No change of shots or zoom in or any camera movements. You can add some thought bubble or a tooltip (like Smash Bros)
- If you use props (like a wheelchair) clean up after yourself! Take them off the stage one way or another, or talk to a friend and they can take them out of the stage in their piece :)
- Name your elements "USERNAME_nameofthing" and put them inside a folder in the flash library.
- If you use a program other than flash (you are more than welcome to do so) just export the animation of the sheep itself, no (provided), with a transparent background. Screen ratio is 16:9.
SOUND isnt necessary, but if you can throw in a cool jumping and landing sound, it would definitely spice things up.

Our Sheep, Who art crossing, hallowed be thy wool; Thy fence come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in the air. Give us this day our daily bump; and forgive us our animations as we forgive those who cry against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from slacking. Amen.
