The most important thing when your adding tone to your picture when you’re starting out is not being to hesitant to add highlights or shadow. It’s a lot easier to dim a harder tone than to strengthen a lighter one.
It also helps if you have a sense of lights and shadows. Your can practice this by drawing stuff in real life and then trying to mimic the shadows and highlights.
I'm working hard on a project that I will be posting on newgrounds. It's a major improvement over the first couple of images I posted. This site has really helped me to improve my art.

I know I still need to work a lot on my shading and depth. I am planning to work more with backgrounds that give prespective to help me with that. I really appreciate the honest advice your giving me. In the near future will try that "single light source drawing" and see what comes out of it. :)
I made this guy in my free time. I think he turned out pretty good. I'm getting the hang of painting in photoshop.
