Try getting an external audio card and microphone from m-audio, they have some good beginner equiptment, decently priced as well.

You bet, I love all that stuff. Fl studio is awesome and cheap, compare to other packages nowdays.

FL studio is a good learner program. It can load vsts, samples, live audio - pretty much anything you can throw at it. Logic pro is a more professional program, more features - the UI is a bit clumsy but that is not the point. With logic pro you can program the back end of the software yourself (I.e code your own stuff/change the actual program, fl cannot do this), to get desired result faster and more accurately. Notation view is also a plus (also, you can draw automation curves with a mouse/tablet and logic will recognize the shapes or leave them intact, beats the shit out of FL studios beizer based automation)

Anyway, thats my 2.5 cents.

There is a primative one over here, its not bad. It even has some filter features that keeps crappy tracks off of it.

Convolution Reverb, not vocoder. You'll have to do a google search to find a vst that will do that.

Just use FLAC, freaking huuuuge - but amazing quality. Also, with studio quality headphones (freq range from 5-35000) you can totally hear the diffrence between lossy and lossless encoding.

I'm liking the idea. I think there should be a official version of this on the NGAP... The front page audio with the top 5 of the week is ok, but this would be even more awesome.

I still wouldn't mind some though.

Denon DJ 1000's, or Fostex t50rp's. Depeding if your going for high quality sound/cool factor - or voiceofgod quality ones that look clunky. I am getting the 1000's tomorrow... can't wait, I'll tell you how they work out.

Valve just used a vocoder when they did the original voices, but another method would be to get goldwave - it has some interesting filters in it.

Take a minute or two and take a look in the help files in FL. I looked there when I first got a mic, and it worked perfectly fine for me.

I still prefer the Edison sound editor in FL studio. Its not hard to set the program up either. Just switch your sound driver over to ASIO, put the mic in an mixer input channel and load edison into a effect slot and your done . :P

Eh, I can give it a try if you like. I've done quite a bit in my time. Mastering does make a huge diffrence.
Drop me a line on aim (Shenkhar), msn (shenkhar@hotmail.com) or just pm me. If you want some examples of why mastering is a good idea I can provide them as well.

I have the M-audio Keystation 49e, it was about $120-140, don't quite remember. It has a pitch bend, mod wheel, and volume slider. All of which are vst compatible. It also has two octave controls (up/down), so your not stuck with only the notes inbetween c1-c5. Its a good buy, if you want a cheap but useful keyboard.

I've been working on a remix of "Cool" by Lowrider. The drums are temporary, and I haven't fleshed out the melody yet (still repeats often..)
What do you all think I should do with this?

Topic: Can YOU read music?

Posted: 01/16/08 05:33 PM

Forum: Audio

I used to be able to sight read music pretty well, I played the trumpet, french horn and piano.. but recently I've gotten out of practice. If you asked me to play something, it would take me a bit.. but in time I would remember how. Just because someone doesn't know how to read music, doesn't mean they can't make music. Its all in the mind, not on the page.

Some things you could try would be to see if your keyboard has a midi output on the back. If it does, you can get a midi-usb adapter, then its just a matter of getting some software like FL studio, Abelton Live, or Reason to make some sounds. That is, unless you want to record the audio directly from the keyboard, then you will just need some audio plug adapters, which you could get at radio shack, or some similar place. You could still use the software mentioned above, but just in a diffrent way. PM me if you need any more help.

I'm never suprised at how ignorant people are. I'm also never suprised at how quickly arguments break down into personal vendettas. If VG thinks classical music is overrated thats fine. The rest of us can continue to enjoy it - regardless of what one person thinks.

If you have the game, all you need to do is use is GCFScape to extract -any- data from the half life packs. You'll find them in your steam folder. Then its just a matter of finding the character dialouge/sound folders and extracting the sounds you want!
