Izotope's Ozone is probably one of the best mastering plugins you can easily find. Sadly, it seems incompatible with my 64-bit Vista system, which angers me, so I'm stuck with using Dynasone (which isn't bad at all, but it's not as open to different mastering presets).

New Hero of Time trailer released to celebrate the upcoming Los Angeles screening on Nov. 14, 2009.

The music to this trailer was composed by me specifically for the trailer itself.

The trailer can be seen here:

The piece (without the rest of the trailer's audio) can be heard/downloaded here:

Hero of Time Unofficial Soundtrack release #6:

(Copy-pasted from the submission):
Another piece that will not appear in the Official Soundtrack Release, "Demons of the Elements" was originally going to be cut from the score. It was composed for a certain scene and rejected, but was later used for a different scene as well as the November 2008 trailer.

Because it was rejected back in its time, the piece's mix was never finalized, so what you're hearing is a rough MIDI cut of the piece, run through the VSTi's but without any finalizing EQs and mastering. However, because the piece was redone for the scene it was originally intended for, the first 38 seconds of this piece you will hear again in the Official Soundtrack release, as we kept that much in and I changed the rest for that scene.

One familiar LoZ melody you'll hear in this one is the Nocturne of Shadow, which doesn't much have a correlation to the scene, but I threw it in for good measure.

New HERO OF TIME track released!!!

Check it out!

Among my battle music works, this one is the one I'm most proud of, as I believe it to be one of my greatest achievements in that musical tone.

The good thing is that Game Music is easier to compose than Film Music. The object of doing a good Game Score is to make sure you understand what the vision of the Game Developer is for that game, and create the right atmospheric mood (as well as any other parameters they may define for you). As long as you understand what the client wants and deliver the right mood and capture the right emotion in the game's cue, you'll do fine.

Film scoring is different in that oftentimes you'll have to make the music interact with what's going on onscreen, and that can get quite challenging.

Personally, I don't know what the genre of game you're scoring is, but if it's orchestral, I wouldn't be too concerned with EQs and whatnot (but that's my opinion). If you're doing more rock/techno kind of sound, that's when you want to be concerned with those things, because EQs and the right compression will vastly determine the outcome.

I made this for a fan of mine who's making a demoreel video (a video montage of his various film projects). He didn't really have any specifications about how the music should be, so I just made something up as I went along.

It's titled "Arctic Flight":

Posted a new classical piece (that's actually been on my Myspace for about a month, but I am now releasing it here as well).

It's to a video game project that I unfortunately had to bail out of (for time-restriction reasons irl).

It's titled "Memories of Claire", and it can be found here:

After a long silence, I have broken it with a new cover song.

I have chosen to make an Alternative Rock cover of the Jonathon Coulton song "Still Alive" from the game Portal. Be sure to read the author comments so you don't review it thinking you're telling me something new (if you're commenting on the vocals).

Completed the first song to the rock album with Raegan Quinn. The song is called "Dream" and the "LR" stands for "Lotus Reverie"

Raegan Quinn used to be a professional opera singer when she was a child in Scotland. She's done some vocal work for the BMB Finishes "Hero of Time" film I'm scoring, and she's been wanting to do a rock duo with me for a while. Hence, "Lotus Reverie" was born. This first song "Dream" was performed by her as were the lyrics written by her; I just made and mixed all the music and her vocals.

So enjoy!

I've finally started on an all-piano album that is rigged to sound like a live-performance (with a little admittedly bad mixing here and there).

I imagine that anything of Progressive Rock would be classified in the AP as most-likely "indie". I've honestly never heard of progressive metal, but metal, like techno, has hundreds of subgenres.

The A minor scale you listed is actually the A harmonic minor scale. You forgot the natural minor, melodic minor, and the other modal variations of the scale.

If you're not tired of hearing this song yet...

I deleted the instrumental because after listening to the song I loathed the original vocals, so I went back while I still had the project saved and redid ALL the vocals without the stupid Harmony Engine, and it sounds a hell of a lot better now (although verse 1 has one peaking spot that was normalized to keep your speaker from exploding, but you can still hear the distortion).

I was bored, so I created another Legend of Zelda piece just for the hell of it. This is called "Queen Rutela's Final Goodbye"

Now, I stated it in the song's description, so hopefully I won't get anyone saying "Is this from the movie you're scoring?" The answer is "no". I just got tired of composing music for the LoZ film that I had to keep secret and wanted to create something I could freely distribute, so I created this on a whim.

For this, I envisioned the part of LoZ: Twilight Princess where Rutella leads Link to the secret place within Kakariko Village, but in this piece's case, I envisioned her appearing to Ralis to bid him a final farewell. For those of you who haven't played Twilight Princess, go out and buy it. It's quite possibly the best LoZ game since Ocarina of Time.

Instrumental to the first AP track "To Light a Candle and Hope for a Forest Fire"

Enough people bitched about my vocals so I deleted that entry and submitted the instrumental and will continue to do so with each new song release.

If you're one of those people who could care less about the imperfection of my vocals, you can still hear the original versions on my MySpace (which the link to that is on my NG profile page).

Released the first song to a new rock album, titled "To Light a Candle and Hope for a Forest Fire"

Now, while I'm still practicing the new vocal techniques I've been learning, please have patience with me on that. For example, the second half of the second verse is a little rusty (along with a few other parts for those of you who have an ear for that sort of thing).

But rest assured, the music part of it sounds awesome! I've experimented with different VSTi's that I've always had and never really used (I tried Super Quartet for the drumparts instead of following my usual tradition to use Hypersonic). I also acquired Harmony Engine and attempted to play around with it in this song. Now, the harmonies in the first verse of the song I did do myself, but in the chorus and ending, I played with Harmony Engine (which I'm happy about because it means I can pull some hardcore Saosin shit! >=D)

Anyway, enjoy!
